JustAskingAndCurios she actually said in another video that she only had left 100$ left of the 400$, cause she was still paying for her car and that was 300$ a month.
I have lived in a Dodge van for about 8 months now and I love it! As you said in the vid,I have more money now and able to deal with everything when my hours atSams Club get cut. The holidays are coming and all that overtime I will bank. Thanks for your Vids
Hi Hobo Allie, i just wanted to tell you I think you're incredibly brave and together and an inspiration!! Well done getting to this point against so many odds and being so positive about it :]
Lol, I love the broke question. I mean really?? I know people who make $75,000 a year who aren't only broke, but they are also in debt 2-3 times their yearly income. When I have a $75,000 year in a vehicle, I am keeping over 90% for myself. Usually by the first or second day of the month, I've already made enough to live at least one month if not two. Money management is unrelated to choice of lifestyle. The average poor person making $75k routinely destroys their finances and their freedom, lol.
Warren Eisenburg Nice. I live super cheap in my little SUV. Less than $500 per month. I haven't done any modifications to it at all. But the vehicle is mostly just a transition for me. Will be moving into just a backpack for international travel soon. Then I figure most places I can live for less than $300 a month.
So True!! Lord the stories i could share about some of my 1% friends and colleagues. And don't get me started on how much money is wasted 'eating out' a month, verses cooking at home...
I kind of laugh at the negative critique, as many don't see the value of the information you provide, and in the manner you provide it. I take away valuable inspiration as much as information, as it comes from YOUR perspective, knowing that van life is not for EVERYONE. Some of these comments ("you're hot", "my van is better than yours", "you make a lot of money from UA-cam")..... WHO CARES? It would not surprise me if people (like myself) want take that leap of faith and do van living just to begin saving money for the first time in their lives. THANK YOU FOR YOUR VIDEOS.
Lmao i barely spend over $900 a month renting an apartment. Youre living in a van for crying out loud and you spend a full time jobs income to be homeless? Yeah youre doing it wrong dude.
I really enjoy this page cuz you are so genuine and so honest and not trying to make this lifestyle glamorous like a bunch of other pages I see. Van life is a dream of mine!!! Saving has begun!! My goal Is to save for the next couple years then take off
Monthly basics for someone who just wants to boondock is pretty simple: $200 food, $70 phone/hotspot, $40 van insurance and $40 for gas = $350. Camping out in the national forests this level of income is perfectly adequate in my opinion, very easy to live well on. That is assuming you have a solar system, a fridge, a way to wash your own clothes and preferably a water source and water filter. There's something very comforting about knowing you only need to make $15/day to sustain yourself, especially if you can make that amount online and never have to work on someone else's schedule.
I wish i was ur age again and able to act on ur lifestyle and spirit! I have spent most of my life being afraid..now im 67 with nothing to show for it..i really wish i could go back and live my life again without the fear..forgive my rambling...ill contin....to live through you my friend...
Im a stagehand (meaning setting up and loading out theater and bands .production lighting sound..) during the summer i typically spent the season at an outdoor venue and was on a month long run with a specific show. And worked on thier stage crew.the remaining summer. During the fall/winter i work out of several arenas and theaters depending where the show is...i have a home but i dont see it often thats just production life. Seeing as im not tied to one specific show where a bus is provided and im left to my own accommodations mostly my car has become my home away from home especially when we work till 3 am and have to be at a new or the same venue at 8 am i really enjoy you and your concepts and tips.they are verry helpfull to stagehands who spend long/unusual time away from home venue to venue. Also ive been a musician most of my life so ive experienced vanlife early in life. But your videos are so help full..small things i never thought of.keep up good work stay safe.
I totally agree with you, I converted my truck into a camper and honestly it could be super cheap, or it could be a little more money depending where you are traveling, spending more on gas ect. I know that people who are living off social security can definitely survive living in there car with food in there belly plus paying off car expenses and explore during there time being retired. Me and my dad built up my full size bed in my car with underneath storage and the whole left side of my truck has cubby holes. It cost about $200.00 and it turned out rad and I didn't use super cheap wood either VS spending $1,000+ for someone else to build my camper for me.
Hobo Ahle- Would you be willing to create a video about your future van-build plans? What are some essential features for you personally, and why? Also, are you able to show your current set-up? i.e., What do you sleep on? Where do you keep your clothes? Do you have bins or drawers for storage? Do you have any food storage? Do you have a camp stove for cooking? If you're able to provide any tips for basic van survival, that would be great. If I missed any videos which contain this information, my apologies. Thanks so much, Sara
If you live in California and want to stay there (or here), this is going to be a huge option to consider for many in the next ten years. Taxes, etc. increasing make this a very enticing possibility. I feel the biggest issue is will you have a place to park at night in the future. Could be a massive crackdown on this by California. You may have a very promising channel to produce in the future. Good job!
It can be challenging to provide an accurate response to open-ended/subjective questions, but your responses were still spot on. #NeverBeBroke (Unless circumstances, of course...🤔)
She makes it so difficult instead of just giving us a price on how much she spent a month or how much she saved to live how she's living... just give us the price so people can get a idea... like round It Off from what you spent like she makes it so difficult its annoying...
@@malicious6869 do some critical thinking, why would you spend the same as her anyways. You're not her. Literally all it takes is some paper and pen, right down what you spend money on rn. Cross out what you wouldnt be spending it on anymore once your in a van. Bam youre done. Fucking simple, people are lazy.
totally feel you about past experiences changing how you think about money. I'm glad to say i'm in a more stable position at the moment but i don't take it for granted and i definitely watch where my money is going now. I'm still young(ish) at 25 but i tend to worry a lot about what my future will look like, financially at least. I mean i don't want to be still working when i'm too old so i want to save & make sacrifices now, but sometimes i start thinking that i might be missing out on experiences during my 'best' years. It's a hard balance to get right i suppose. I'm not living in a Van, but still an informative video so thanks :) . I should probably watch more of these, so i can learn how to have more travel experiences away from my 9-5, at a low cost.
I got to stop watch her videos cause it motivates me to do the Van life. I aint gonna lie but I aint ready for that life yet either lol tho I want too be one day and side note she is so stunning too 👀😏
$10 a day for food + $50 for car insurance + $50 for gas + $50 for gym membership is $450. That's pretty much the base I live on monthly but of course I spend money on other stuff which will vary from person to person.
10 dollars a day for food would be a lot for me. I could easily get by with 5 dollars a day if not 3-4 dollars a day. Rice and beans do wonderous things my friend. Problem I have is 200 dollars for insurance... And I wouldn't need a gym to shower. Just take a gallon of water or two ( 1-2$) to wash yourself off with using a rag. And as for laundry, utilize the space you have in your van, car, truck etc and have about 7-14 sets of clothes. Simple t shirts are your best friend and so are gym shorts. During the winter go to old Navy pick up a couple hoodies or have a leather jacket from your pervious life style or just have an extra blanket. And with those 7-14 sets of clothes, utilize them through a whole month. Yes people you can wear the same clothes for two to three days in a row without stinking unless your in a place where it's hot. You'll only need to go to the laundry mat one to two times a month. (5-10$) Gas, well, depends where you want to go. Now for me, every where. I get 50 mpg no problem, on the interstate. So that's 120 dollars for gas if I travel 75 miles a day. So basically 450... A month. Like the video states, it just depends on how the person is already set up in there current life style. I could pull this off for about 6 months then I'd have to go back to home base and work for 3-4 months and do it all over again. Now once I pay my car off, which will be in a year, I can go down to liability. Which is a lot cheaper.
Maybe a part of where all those questions arise from is people wanting someone they trust to tell them they can do this and your openness and honesty have created that trust :) When I owned a construction company one of the most asked questions, even among other contractors was how much does it cost to build a _______? The answer was always the same as yours; it depends! Your new career as a van conversion estimator awaits! :)
Hobo Ahle thank you so much for making this!! I have some questions about monthly budget: what would you consider to be some of your staples for spending to give newcomers like me a general idea. Also have you connected with other van dwellers and how is the community? I am saving up for a van build, and it seems like the build of your van has been a steady process, but I'm wondering how much you've spent so far on your necessities? Love your content!!
My favorite way to save or build up for something is..... I would get a gift card to wherever I have my eyes on and add a little every time I get paid. Ex: for Christmas I would get a best buy gift card and keep adding. By the time Christmas comes around, I could buy something really nice. Laptop, cellphone or use it for a gift. The method gets more exciting when you get close to your goal.
I always keep what I call emergency cash in my car, just in case something happens and I need gas but none of my cards will work or I've lost em. Its come in handy, once I got to work with 3 miles to empty and when I went to leave I discovered I forgot my wallet at home but luckily I had the emergency cash to get gas so I could get home.
Better to use credit card (Visa MC) than debit card, because not responsible for fraudulent charges on credit card. With debit card bank can (and often does) blame you for fraudulent charges and refuse to pay.
Bill Covington only true for people with good spending habits. Not true for the average American who has close to 10 k in credit card debt Use cash and you’ll spend less
Card gets stolen and doesnt work but you have to goto the bank to get a new one might be closed. Gas station card machine down cash works. Need a tow no card works cash works. 200 then replace it when you go down 100 that way you have enough for a tow or gas ect
John 3:16 for God so loved the World that he gave his only begotten Son Jesus that whomsoever believes in him would not perish but have everlasting life. Thursday begins my first day living in my car... Pray for me.. Thanks for your wisdom.. Ive been utterly amazed how smart and well spoken you are. Watching another video of yours about the types of jobs you can do .. You had me floored by how many options you new you can do. Once i learned the God of the bible is real beyond any doubt .. I never have felt alone in this world even when i was alone. Deuteronomy 31:6 Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the LORD your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.
Thats the verse from the bible that ive been holding on. Because we might be homeless real soon. I can live in a van but im just worried about my daughter, grandson and my mom. My mom is 84 yrs old and my grandson is almost 3 and my daughter is 17. Im so worried and kind of depress.
You can make it off $5 a day is you things right. $1 bread 70c great x6 value meat $2 great value cheese can get you 2 days and driving like 10 miles a day. Maybe even get some cereal for breakfast.
Pretty cool videos... you motivate me to do the van life for a while. I might be able to save some money on rent.. cause $900 every month for one studio apartment is just to much.
I'm currently living out of a Scion xB and I have no income at all. I just have been trading work on an organic farm for food and have a savings of about $4500. my only real expense is gas and car insurance right now. I do need to find a good way to start making cash in person while traveling though, I really want to upgrade to a late 90s toyota 4x4 with a bed cap.
i'm looking into van life for the independence I'm not have to pay for rent I have four cats and don't want all the extra charges when you have to pay for cat fees but I don't have a whole Lotta money so I need to start with the van and then slowly build it as money becomes available any suggestions Right now I just want to put in there is a bed full size and some totes and some towards what are you think of that idea
How about retirement? Have you thought that far or are you currently just enjoying your life while you’re young? Have you set a retirement budget for yourself? On a side note! I hope you make more instagram snaps. We travel as well and follow your feed quite often. ✌🏼
I've been saving for retirement since moving into a car in 2014 :)) I'll go over that in my monthly budget video! aww awesome, I've been trying to get better at instagram stories lol but i'm so lazy >
Hobo Ahle 😂 Its so easy to be lazy lol. Trust me I understand. Sometimes even traveling drains me 😓 we follow you on Instagram, snapchat and obviously UA-cam. Look out for our us. (Our_visual_escape) ✌🏼 from Austin Tx
Mah Jongg Queen I haven't seen her answer this question yet, but to help you out, there are phone plans that have Mobile Hotspot. It's like, $10 extra a month with my plan, but comes with some unlimited plans on limited data. It allows me to redirect internet connectivity to any other device that is Bluetooth capable so when I'm on the road (I travel for work) I can always use my laptop, as long as I have my phone nearby.
I've thought I was set on getting a Ford diesel 7.3? I almost bought an ambulance with the 7.3. Actually I almost bought 2 different ones. And I had found the perfect van with the raised roof I almost bought low miles. For one reason or another, I chicken out?
How do you eat affordable and nutritious food when living in a van, seeing that you don't have access to a kitchen? It seems difficult to not have access to a refrigerator or cooking equipment.
LUIS ALVAREZ how did she set up a kitchen in the van? How does she power the refrigerator and cooking equipment in the van, and make sure the fumes from the cooking equipment escape properly?
Can someone explain why she did this? Her videos are always being recommended to me now. I just wanna know what was the reason why she lived in a car for so many years.
Hobo Ahle, would be better if you upgrade to a mini camper trailer or small RV rather than an uncomfortable van? BTW, when you are here in CA, hit me up, I'll adventure with you :).
Living in the US seems so expensive when living in a van costs 400$ a month. i've been living off about 520$ a month since 2007 and i have had an apartment this whole time. (i live in sweden)
Dicezlol she mentioned in another video that she had to pay 300 for leasing (or something like that?) for car, so only 100$ left for her for the whole month :) i guess it was the reason that it was so difficult
I drove a reefer for 2 yrs & i worked 10+ hours 7 days a week. Some of the docks i had to back my 53' trailer in was beyond ridiculous. Between not enough sleep, being pushed constantly, among a myraid of other problems i would not recommend it to this young lady. Making UA-cam videos are much easier on u mentally & physically
I rather choose van life then dying to paid off a mortgage on a house kinda hipster and a free lance type of a lone wolf or something like that 👄🇦🇸💋🇼🇸👄👣🧽
There's people very well off who own a home or multiple homes they rent out who may be retired or making $80k a year and enjoy living in a van and travelling. Don't ever think it's only poor people.

What type of work do YOU do on Upwork? Is pay decent on there? I'm gonna check it out!
Very good 😌
Better to use credit card (Visa MC) than debit card, because not responsible for fraudulent charges on credit card. With debit card bank can (and often does) blame you for fraudulent charges and refuse to pay.
Bill Covington only true for people with good spending habits. Not true for the average American who has close to 10 k in credit card debt
Use cash and you’ll spend less
Can you rate your quality of life with the roof raise vs without? Was is a huge improvement?
Card gets stolen and doesnt work but you have to goto the bank to get a new one might be closed. Gas station card machine down cash works. Need a tow no card works cash works. 200 then replace it when you go down 100 that way you have enough for a tow or gas ect
John 3:16 for God so loved the World that he gave his only begotten Son Jesus that whomsoever believes in him would not perish but have everlasting life. Thursday begins my first day living in my car... Pray for me.. Thanks for your wisdom.. Ive been utterly amazed how smart and well spoken you are. Watching another video of yours about the types of jobs you can do
You are very intelligent and well spoken young lady! I am really impressed with you and enjoy your informative videos! Thank You!
You are an amazing person and a gorgeous woman. Keep it up luv
Love you. God bless you.
Your van life is amazing! 😁
Shawn Michael she is saving money why so judgemental?
Shawn said nothing judgemental in the slightest.
Great vid.
How long have you been living in your van, you looks very young.
She's so smart
I used to live in an appartment in Germany when I had 350 euros a month 4 years ago.
I don‘t know how I made it but it worked.
great video ! ♡
could you maybe do a van tour?
Nice work!
Everything time I watch your videos I just want to get in a car and drive
How do you wash and dry your clothes. They look brand new?
Love your videos. How do you handle wi fi on the road if you want to use laptop instead of phone? You likely already addressed. Thanks!
Thanks!
do you ever make crafts to sell at craft fairs to make money
I guess we’re gonna ignore that you make money from UA-cam. This video alone has THREE ADS. A little more honesty would go a long way.
LA CrimeGuy literally the only thing thats actually making her rich
Socialblade data says she makes $66-$1k a month from these vids.
She's taking donations
I've been scrolling through comments to see if anyone was ever going to mention that. Thank you.
weremuffin she's making more than $66 Dollars a video she has 180k+ subs and gets 10s of thousands of views with 3 ads per vid.
Where do you stay when van is in the shop?
Girl... IM SO ABOUT TO DO THIS BECAUSE I ALREADY LIVE ON 400 and my rent is 280 !! 😢😭😭
Living that van life!
I've never had my questions featured before. Today is a happy day!
400 dollars/month is half of my monthly food budget ^^
How much was the van?
Can someone explain why she did this? Her videos are always being recommended to me now. I just wanna know what was the reason why she lived in a car for so many years.
I want a new drone video!
$1000 a month seems good to cover all basic needs
you are amazing
How much did your van cost you?
I keep putting off getting a van, or a bus, or an ambulance, or a step van/miscellaneous vehicle?
Hobo Ahle, would be better if you upgrade to a mini camper trailer or small RV rather than an uncomfortable van? BTW, when you are here in CA, hit me up, I'll adventure with you :).
Living in the US seems so expensive when living in a van costs 400$ a month. i've been living off about 520$ a month since 2007 and i have had an apartment this whole time. (i live in sweden)
Dicezlol she mentioned in another video that she had to pay 300 for leasing (or something like that?) for car, so only 100$ left for her for the whole month :)
i guess it was the reason that it was so difficult
Get a class A license. Live in the truck. And get paid to drive your home.
Definitely a great idea for some!
No special license is needed if your vechicle is set up as an RV.
That's what we do! Actually we have an old trailer(given to us) that's "home"!
Anthony she already has a job. At one point, she had 2.
Dude I have those same fans they are powerful
I spend $500- a month on gas and drive 4,000 miles in a mini-van.
Like I said before. I think i'm in love.
"I am the riches of God" chanted in heaven for her. Amen
Amen! 💞
I rather choose van life then dying to paid off a mortgage on a house kinda hipster and a free lance type of a lone wolf or something like that 👄🇦🇸💋🇼🇸👄👣🧽
Do you get along with your parents?
Can you fix your van? It would seem a person living this lifestyle would need to be mechanically inclined
see 400 dollars a month is legit i know ive lived off. that before yea its really tight in a vehicle cause half of that is still insurance and gas.
There's people very well off who own a home or multiple homes they rent out who may be retired or making $80k a year and enjoy living in a van and travelling. Don't ever think it's only poor people.
