    I was stationed at Ft. Monmouth in '68/69 with the 241st MP Co. Your video brought back memories. Thanks.

      @@mtnebobaptchurch The wife and I drove to Ft. Monmouth from Annapolis, Maryland 18 months ago. The fort was blocked off at the main gate and looked as if no one had maintained it for years. Very disappointing.

    Thank you so much for posting this. In 1960 my oldest brother was stationed at Ft Monmouth. I remember my family visiting him and staying at the guest quarters there. We saw him on the parade grounds during some ceremony. He died a few months later in a car accident in Little Silver NJ. Anyway this meant a lot to me to see this.

      So sorry for your loss. It was a labor of love to bring that special video to so many folks out there who can identify with our beloved Ft-Monmouth. Check out the one we did in 1984 while on leave from Loring AFB, Me. ua-cam.com/video/l13ZTkFreAg/v-deo.html

    My father was stationed here and I was born in Eatontown in '61. I've never seen either place until now. I joined the Air Force and most every base I have been stationed at has been closed. Sad to see them go. Thank you for the video.

      Thank you so much and I have made it my mission to record history for future generations...I hate that all the stuff we're familiar with past & present will forgotten about in a generation or two. I'm hoping that this forum, UA-cam will keep that from happening///cwh

    I was parallel to base housing when I was a truck driver delivering to Eatontown Public Works. It was three months after the base closed and it was strange to see all the doors open on the refrigerators at all the base houses. Usually you see a base closed years after it was active. I would also point that this reminds me of your video of your driving tour of Loring Air Force Base in 1984. Speaking of which have you been up there at all since the beach closed or since you PCS’d out of there?

    • @mtnebobaptchurch
      @mtnebobaptchurch 3 роки тому

      I had not been up there since and sure would love to get back up there to visit before I leave this earth. some of my fellow service members have had reunions up there over the past 10-years, but I unfortunately never made one of them-yet. I grew up in Asbury Park and Ft-Monmouth was always part of my young life and sure hated to see it close and end up the way it did.

    Charles. @4:46 you mentioned what kind of housing those building were but couldn't hear due to the wind. What housing was that? Officer? NCO?

    +Charles Huffman My father was career Army and I was born in the old Ft. Monmouth post hospital in 1949. We were assigned there again from summer '61 to summer '63 when my father was Chief of Instruction and Curriculum at the Army Signal School, and we lived in officers duplexes by the 15th fairway, across the the highway from the main post and not far from the O Club. Memories.........

      +MT-NEBO BAPTIST CHURCH OF BOSSIER, that's really neat. Even though it's been many years I well remember Asbury Park, Long branch, Wall, Neptune, Red Bank, Wildwood, the Amboys (on a clear day I could see Manhattan) and I remember the Nike missile installations there), and Eatentown. New Shrewsbury had a Post Office in the middle of the road. Great stuff for a small kid! Ft. Monmouth also had the rusting wreck of an M3 Grant tank that had been used for target practice, and a couple of display tanks (M48 and M60) I used to play on. Last but not least were the excellent breakfasts at the Jersey diners. I really miss those days, but of course time moves on and nothing stays the same. Cool experiences that deserve to be remembered, documented and shared.

      Yes, I saw that one. Monmouth and the surrounding area certainly has changed from the '50s and '60's. I remember riding the Asbury Park indoor Ferris wheel--it had a wire mesh top and a handle you could pull so you'd go upside down and kids would pick up all the pocket change that fell to the floor. I had to look up Loring AFB because I wasn't familiar with it. I was Air Force (1968-72)--first Lackland then Keesler, MacDill, Takhli, Ubon, Bien Hoa and lastly Griffiss (which is also now closed). The whole thing from Monmouth on has been a wonderful experience!

      Thank you so much and you're right about how sad it is to see the way it is now, compared to back in the day. As always, still riding shotgun getting that precious video footage for historical purposes for future generations. More good stuff to come in the future, the next time we visit the area-perhaps in 2021-May-the possible date for our 50th Asbury Park High School class reunion!
