Thanks for the info on the quiver, as of right now I think those will be the next two boards to add obviously probably a couple years apart between the two. I’m just so excited to get off my longboard 😂

Think your analysis of the phantom is spot on. I ride a 6’0 phantom and the one thing I know is that it wants head high clean waves and it’s very reliable performance when you ride it there. Ride it as a quad and you’ll unlock a lot of hidden speed + flow the board can offer on smaller waves

I ended up going with a thruster only set-up but definitely after riding I could imagine what you had mentioned about the quad set up being much more flowy in smaller surf. Thanks for the comment 🙏

Appreciate the daily vlogs, I watch them after work everyday. Still trying to figure out how to move to Santa Cruz. But one day I will move there.

Sick vid bro, I’m around your same size , will have to try those sometime. I use 6’ lost quiver killer a lot; works anything 3ft up to 8 ft. Used MR Cali twin for smaller waves , but just got a smaller magic carpet “dark water dagger” like 34l 5’8. Thing is crazy fast but can get on rail up to lip easier than the MR twin so far , might be lower volume or the shape

Sickkk! Those boards are all wicked. Sounds like you’ve got a similar quiver to mine!

Spot on. I’m based in San Diego so surfing similar waves to you … I’m 6’0 165lbs intermediate… which size would you recommend in those 2 models.

I would go a little smaller on the pyzel maybe a 5’11. Definitely happy that I went with a 5’9 for the fish though It’s just big enough to surf small mushy waves but not too big either.

I’d like to try the Phantom at Manresa when it’s firing in October.

I agree. The phantom is sick. Just all around good. The panda is a definite must checkout. The board I ride the most by far!

Hey I also have this exact pyzel phantom xl but definitely oversized by at least 3-4 liters (I’m maybe 170lb wet with wetsuit at most) 😅 since my paddling fitness can use an upgrade. My ideal literage is 34/35L. I also surf shitty beach breaks so getting into waves early can be tough when my fitness sucks. This big ass board gets me into waves like nothing. However, sometimes my phantom feels too floaty under my front foot and feels like it’s bouncing on water. This doesn’t happen when I’m knifing a steep drop and then my phantom feels awesome. So I suspect the trick to surfing an oversized phantom well is to always be on rail , bc the moment I’m surfing “flat” all the extra foam and volume up front starts to make itself known and gets super chattery and bouncy… thoughts? And I wish I could surf me some Santa Cruz waves !

Literally could not have said it any better. It’s crazy because I feel the exact same way. I love being able to chip into the wave and it feels great on rail. However I feel that front foot floatyness too. I avoided mentioning that because I was kinda in my head about it 😅 thinking maybe that was just me. Specially since everything else about the board works so so so good. I also only really feel it when surfing flat. If I’m in a turn or knifing a drop it performs great!

@@the_colbs ok wow! I need to surf this board more and see how it goes. Only had two sessions so far so ... and it was in kinda stormy bumpy conditions. Hey, maybe it will force me to surf better! Lol. I’m also thinking of getting the 6’1 regular phantom later which is 34.4L. But first impressions I love how well it paddles and takes steep drops like a champ.

It doesn’t seem like it has had much of an effect. I haven’t surf there since it happened. Planning on going out there later this week though. 👍

Wetsuits make you lighter in the water because they float you higher.
