Thanks, Rik. The faster trains in Malaysia are electric, but the train from Gemas to JB Sentral is a slower diesel engine. For Singapore they don't really have long distance trains, but I made good use of the MRT to get around the central area and out to the airport. Definitely a money saver!
The world was a perfect place for a few seconds when you got onto that waiting train lol. I would struggle to sleep as well with the carriage rocking all over the shop! I will stick to shorter, seated journeys. Is Hat Yai worth stopping in for a couple of days? It's probably changed since you worked there.

The one to Hat Yai wasn't very smooth tbh! But I like Hat Yai as a place. It's changed a bit, but one thing I still like is the food. But my best advice, particularly for anyone who might be there on Friday or Saturday, is to get over to Songkla Old Town (about 25 mins taxi). Beautiful buildings, great party vibe and a great beach nearby. That's worth a visit, IMHO!
The double tracking and electrification from Gemas to JB will be completed in 2025. It was delayed by the covid pandemic. Then you only need to take the ETS...electric train service from KL to JB
Thanks for the positive feedback. The total I spent on rail fares was roughly 3500 thai baht or just over 100 US dollars. However, more than half of that was for the exclusive use of a first-class room on the Bangkok to Hat Yai segment. Had I taken the 2nd class sleeper berth, I'd have saved over 1,000 Thai Baht (about 30USD) from that total.
Good info … your similar to Bangkok pat , your information is informative but it’s not girls so take longer to grow …don’t give up , pat took a long time to really grab hold …. He would often say with honest jealousy that he wished he could get some punters off the Soi 6 you tubers …. So push on

But the good news is I'm doing it as a hobby and to motivate myself to get out more. And if I can do the same for a few viewers, then that's my definition of success!
@@balloonchaser I am a play it by ear traveler if I want to stay somewhere longer I will. This made me lose out on a train from Bangkok to Chang mai. Since I didn’t want to do the long bus ride I just took a flight instead.
@vgshwk One thing worth knowing on Thai long distance trains is that they hold back a few tickets in case any VIPs require them. And on the day of travel, these (if not needed) are released for general sale. So a sold out train can occasionally have seats available around midday. They've also recently introduced the idea of going on a waiting list if a train shows as full. One thing you have to take into consideration is many times the train sales out and you may be forced to take the bus.

Yes, I think buying in advance is probably essential. I did find booking via the app pretty straightforward, so that's my best advice. Good luck!
