Ihana tunnelmallinen alku!
Wow, as always. Amazing content!
Followed your tutorial for the camshafts (in:m54b30 and ex:m50) and everything went perfectly.
Now just as I was thinking of how to get a 6 speed in my e39, you post this ahahah. Guess I'll have to get my hands dirty again soon :p.
Thanks!!!
You have the best and most informative m5x videos on UA-cam. Very helpful 😁
You could theoreticaly use a shortshifter that bolts to the chasis and remove the aluminium part link and just reweld the shift rod 🙂
Hyvä video kaikilta osin...!!
Perfect!
You can also use the 6 speed from the M54 E60, with the E60 flywheel, and the X5 M54 beefier clutch., the E60 gearshift linkage is plug and play.
Yes. But those are really rare and expensive (at least here). Even e6x with m54 is really rare sight. I own the only one e61 that I have seen to come up for sale with m54 in couple of years I have been looking for one.
Love the video. I finally finished my gs6-37bz swap in my e46.
hey, what driveshaft have you used?
@@uber_na_d3r I had a shop modify a stock one. There was not a bolt on option for me.
do you remember how much it was shortened?
@@uber_na_d3r not exactly. I’m thinking around two inches. I want to have it redone one day, currently it’s a pretty crude one piece.
Hi Pazi, i've got an E46 330ci 6 speed (GS6-37BZ) with stock clutch. I am looking into replacing it. I would like to use a single mass flywheel and clutch set kit from E83 X3 2.0d M47. Do you know if this will be possible ?
Great M5x content as usual. You have so many spare parts, and then new parts, if I tried to do that in south europe it would cost me as much as just buying an M3 :( I struggle every day with decisions to keep modifying M52TUB28 E46 because of the cost
Its not exactly cheap in finland either...
Prices in finland are actually not much lower, if you wanna look for somewhere where prices are low for aftermarket parts, order stuff from polish websites, but still it's not like 50% off or anything, realistically building a car is very expensive no matter where you live and if you think too much about how much it's gonna cost, chances are building cars is probably not for you.
@@imnota Building an M3 and being expensive is an easier pill to swallow, but a poor man's 3 series being expensive really stings. I realized watching too much USA content corrupts you, it is so cheap there (and legal to make crazy modifications)
@@idokwatcher2062 nah man look at the prices, not much cheaper at all, just done by people that don't give a shit that it's gonna be as expensive as an m3. The cars are a bit cheaper, but the parts really aren't, if you know where to look most parts can actually be found for cheaper than anything from the us
You're right on the legal part tho, most states allow anything, except California
Watching USA contents only corrupts you because most youtubers make like 5 times your salary by just making videos, it's not that it's cheap, they're just stinking rich
I just tend to gather all the BMW related junk I can get for cheap/free, hoping I can use that one day :D Then the parts I actually need I usually buy from the Baltic counties. There used parts are usually 1/3 or even 1/4 of the price that parts cost in Finland. Also new parts are a lot cheaper there. It still isn't free, but a lot more affordable. For example this 6-speed swap did cost about 400€ all combined. And yeah in US the cars itself might be cheap but parts are really expensive.
Hip hei! :)
Oikeesti meni kaks viikonloppua 😅 tarkkaan editoitu vaan pari kortillista matskua tähän videoon 😁
@@pazi88 Ei uskois. Näytti tosi helpolta "plug&play" projektilta.😅 Vakavasti puhuen hyvä, että näytit tarvittavat osat ja modifioinnit. Jokunen saman merkin harrastaja säästää tunnin jos toisenkin katsomalla tämän.👌 Nostan hattua. Voisit ajella joskus tänne mun tallille ja tehdä saman tyyppisen swapin tuohon turboon.😁
Fun fact; this trans can be swapped into e34 with M5x engines with all factory parts from various models. Like e31 850Ci shifter bracket, 525i auto trans bracket, 530i auto driveshaft etc
Yes true, and I did swap one to my e39, with not too many custom parts: ua-cam.com/video/h71atEUYKww/v-deo.html
Laitoin aikanaan M50 laatikon M20 moottorin jatkeeksi joten kallistusongelma on tuttu..
For people with 1500 euros burning a hole in their pockets, you can also go for the GS6-53BZ, inherently the same gearbox, the 53bz having longer gears and being built and rated for 530nm, but independent tests have shown stock 53bz's taking 1000nm and staying in one piece.
Nah 53dz better for the money.
53dz is about 10kg heavier than 37dz.
Stock 328i/528i gearbox is 35kg, GS6-37DZ is 45kg and GS6-53DZ is 55kg.
I don't know if 37 and 53 are the same dimensions but I think if you're not doing a crazy 800nm turbo build, the 37 one should be fine.
@@peterm3861 Some people might want longer gears, the 37bz is fine on how much it'll take for most people, true.
@@ForgedEggs Well only the lower gears are longer in the 53BZ. 6th gear is a bit shorter actually.
That's what I don't like about the 53BZ. I prefer the lower gears a bit shorter while having a bit of overdrive in 6th.
But depends on the engine, diff ratio and personal preference.
@@peterm3861 I might have my recollection of the numbers mixed up a little, I specifically specced out for the 53 with a big 210mm 750il diff.
Hey Sipa, how is the clutch doing meanwhile? Did you put the CDV back in?
Very nice solution to the pilot bearing issue, didn't know that one. I always thought you have to use diesel flywheel with this gearbox.
Are input shafts the same in DZ and BZ gearbox?
Thanks!
PS: Oh and are there no such things you should renew before dropping in the gearbox like the bushings for centering of the shift knob in the 328i ZF Box?
Not yet. It's cold winter now in Finland and the lift is technically outside. So I haven't bothered swapping in the CDV yet. Yes DZ and BZ use same gearbox. Don't know if these GS6 ones have same problems as the older 5v ZF ones.
@@pazi88 Thank you very much for your helpful replies always, legend. Have a nice weekend Sipa!
Hey Pazi, when you were making the bracket for the transmission, how did you decide on the height you wanted the transmission to be mounted at? Currently putting a gs6-37bz on an m51 car so the clocking is the opposite of yours, but i need to make a bracket aswell. Worried about driveline angle to not have any vibrations. Thanks
I did bolt on the driveshaft to the transmission and alinged the thing so that the driveshaft goes through the middle of the csb.
Thanks, your videos are always helpful. Your turbo projects are awesome!
36:46 The clutch is on/off because of the clutch plate without the springs - I had gone through many sets of clutches before i got mine to be perfect now
I still have the original dual mass flywheel that also came with non-sprung disc originally and there was non of that on/off behaviour. And this is third clutch I have in this car with non-sprung disc and only this has the problem. It's probaply because the clutch is meant for AWD and those naturally have more inertia in the driveline. But I'll keep it still, because I'm planning to add turbo at some point.
@@pazi88 Yeah I've seen the flywheel you used, but the thing that has more to do with the 0-1 way the clutch works is the springs inside the plate. also the shorter travel this clutch has can be a factor. As far as the strange sound is concerned it sounds like air going through something that spins, or perhaps you can hear it through the speakers ?!?! :)
On the GS6-37DZ, what is the size of the hexagonal nut on the inside of the drive flange that the guibo installs on? I am trying to replace the radial seal which is located behind the drive flange.
Sorry can't measure that.
On se vaan kova naama tekemään. Aina mielenkiintonen seurata.

Hi pazi, my friend did 6 speed swap with 120d gearbox. He had issue with the length of the input shaft beeing shorter. With singlemass flywheel it was to short to grab the friction disc. So he welded second center piece of a friction disc to the actual friction disc to lenghten it. Without that it wolud not catch and spin with it.
Can you tell somthing to this problem? Do you had some sort of same problem?
Nope. The flywheel must be too shallow one if that happens.
Ive got the gs6 swapped in but the bottom bolts of the transmission dont line up with the engine/oil pan? Is it fine if i leave it without 3 bottom bolts? The small ones m8 i think
Yeah I don't have those on either
Pazi, will you share dimensions for bearing spacer? This spacer is designed for dual mass flywheel? With single mass flywheel and GS6 gearbox i will need longer spacer, right?
Not part designed by me, so I don't have dimensions. And same one works for all flywheel types. The inputshaft lenght doesn't change based on flywheel 😁
Hi, i might have a drawing for the bearing adaptor 😊

Thanks for video. Can you tell what's engine rpm when crusing on 6 gear at 120km/h and 140km/h
Umm 120km/h is maybe 2300RPM
@@pazi88 with a differential 2.93?
@@subru3285 3.23
Sorry, correction: 2500RPM
I have been looking into doing a 6-speed swap for my E39 530i. Does the cruise control still work? Did you get any error lights or electrical issues?
I'm not running stock ecu anymore, so I don't have cruise control. But there shouldn't be any reason why that shouldn't work. No errors/electrical issues, because it's just manual gearbox.
A friend of mine has 2 528i E39s and both have 6 speed swap and everything works just fine and you can take advantage from a shorter ratio diff, like a 3.23, wich makes them drive WAYY better..

Hey pazi, you have been modifying m5x engines for over 10 years, do you see yourself still being the m5x god in another 10 years or do you want to work on newer engines at some point? The b58 seems to be pretty bulletproof and is starting to get cheap after all ;)
Well it mostly depends what bmw 6-cyl gasoline engine is the cheapest in future. Even though m5x engines have gone up in value, those are still the cheapest option here at least.

Hello, what is the length of the drive shaft after the cut, thank you in advance because I am in the same situation. I measure it 159 centimeters from the differential flange to the back of rubber guibo.
Sorry no idea. I did not measure full lenght. Only how much I needed to modify
@@pazi88 Thanks for the reply, can you tell me how you measured it, because I measure it from where the cv joint fits in the differential flange to the rubber guibo where the shaft rests. I do all the measurements on the ground, the car is on its tires. Just for info my setup is- gearbox from E46 330Ci, I use original bracket from E46 gearbox, custom trans mount under the gearbox made by myself. My car is 528i tu engine. I can also send pictures of the beam if anyone wants an idea.

Hi Pazi,
Is that pilot bearing spacer up for sale somewhere?
Unfortunately no. It's kinda custom deal.
Hello, nice work, where is it possible to buy that bearing spacer? Or what is it called, i am doing a 6 speed swap in my m50 e30 😅👌🏻
Hi! There is guy on the ms4x discord selling those.
@pazi88 please give me details.😊
Moro! Olis tarkotus vaihtaa e36 coupe m50b25 automaatin tilalle gs6-37dz. Vaatiiko kans kaksoismassa vauhtipyörän, tuon saman pilottilaakerin ja kytkinpaketin?
Kaksoismassa tuokin on.

hi.i really like to watch all of your videos.keep going! my question hase aproberly nother reason. i have a1993 e36 325i m50tü automatik. i plan to make the 3liet conversation with parts from the e36 330i in the future. maybe with an compressor on it. but i want to change the gearbox also. so whitch stronger gearbox fits on that m50 block? i dont know now if i want to keep the automatik or change to an shifter.i am not a drifter or like that. straight accalaration is enough for me an i am more the cruiser, but i want a relaiable and durable gearbox. so can you tell me a few alternatives of gearboxes whitch can handle the torque ,or the one thats allmighty?! thank you
Well the ZF s5d-320z from m52b28/m3 in e36/e39/e38 chassis is good option as it is bolt-on with 328 stuff. But nowadays the ZF gs6-37dz/bz is cheaper and stronger if you can do some custom stuff as shown in the video. Thereis of course then ZF gs6-53dz/bz which is even stronger, but usually quite expensive. Especially the gasoline version.
