- Hey y'all. A lot of students and trans people have approached me in the past about their concerns about blood clots when starting HRT for feminization especially with estrogen. I break down everything you need to know and why some of these risks are often over exaggerated.
Here is the link to the meta-analysis I talked about in the video:

This is the video I needed! Thanks so much for talking about the risks! I'm a trans woman and I've been always scared of the blood clots due to being prone to them.
I have aura or ocular migraines and I have had many stroke-like symptoms around the end of my third month on estrodiol.
My doctor cut my dose in half and switch to me to Patches and I just started those today.
Soon after putting on the patch I started having heart palpitations and shortness of breath which I'm still having 5 hours later.
I've been a heavy marijuana smoker and I've been out of work for 8 months due to a broken leg so my marijuana consumption has only increased due to insbikity to cope with boredom until i csn return to work.
I'm putting away the marijuana and vaping to help reduce stroke risks. Marijuana is associated with increased risk of strokes in heavy users but the reason behind it is currently unknown.
I took the patch off for now and I will be reaching out to my doctor about it.
I’m a 45 yo non-smoking cis woman & was given a Hailey 1.5 Rx. My GP foolishly had me double the dose until a cycle stopped. I got a DVT after only 5 days. I was then put on Eliquis, my cycle started again & then had uncontrolled and dangerous uterine bleeding complicated by being on the blood thinner. I may have a genetic predisposition. My GP didn’t warn me about the potential risks which was frustrating.
My DVT began with the typical pain in the gastroc but I didn’t have any edema or redness so just want others to know those symptoms aren’t always present. Stay safe out there, everyone!
Thanks so much for this video. My family has been very concerned about this and other risks.
I have a blood clot, on blood thinners and want to resume estrogen. What are the risks.
So after removing testicle HRT is not necessary always right?
i’m prone to blood clots as it runs in my family. I’m only 20 and am looking into starting HRT, is there a way to detect or watch out for future problems like blood clots
I'm 23 and looking to start too
Can we use birtt control pills for hrt? Is there any ways to prevent blood clots?
The chances of blood clots are very low with modern birth control pills but they tend to have not enough estrogen for HRT needs. Your doctor will prescribe you estrogen which slightly increases blood clot risk but in comparison smoking, high fat diets, and lack of exercise tend to have far worse impacts on your health than going through hrt.
@@lionhearted_ben Thank you, I am a transgender woman and I use birth control pills. I don't smoke, drink alcohol and I also take vitamins especially vitamin c, I also exercise since I am a taekwondo player. I sleep 8-10 hours as well. I hope those are enough reasons for me to have a low risk of blood clots, wish me luck🤞
i feel so trapped in my body, i get intense dysphoria everyday, but i'm afraid of starting HRT because of blood clots, i don't know what to do
Don t get personal medical advice from youtube. Talk to professionals and then take time to make a decision.
Hey question, as a trans woman, if I want have high blood pressure, is this bad if I start taking HRT?
If you take blood pressure meds you should be fine, I take the estrogen patch and it actually lowered my blood pressure, I’d just avoid taking the pills as those have more of a risk
Doesn’t testosterone also cause blood clots?
Bro i want to remove testicles not because of becoming trans just because of some other issues. So do i need to take testosterone hormone?
Yes. If you don't have testes anymore your body will no longer naturally produce any sex hormones and if you want to stay healthy you will have to take Testosterone.
Isn't it dangerous to stop hrt after bottom surgery? Since your body will literally not be producing any sex hormones anymore? I hear a lot about bone brittleness if HRT is stopped after bottom surgery.
Yes it is and that's why it's important to for doctors to look at the whole patient before making any decisions. For most people, taking estrogen is not a medical contraindication and can actually prevent things like osteoporosis like you mentioned. This is why we need providers that advocate for their trans patients and what they need for their own individual health experience.
If you have already had a blood clot how is best to take estrogen again.
If you have statin induced myopathy, the recommendation is to stop for a while and start again because the benefits outweigh the cost and it's always worth a retrial. Use common clinical sense.
Is HRT necessary always?

Cool, I just started HRT a few days ago 😊
hows it going
In india so many transgender people are not taking HRT
If you don't have testosterone you definitely need estrogen, otherwise you enter in menopause symptoms and bone loss
Can we take any other supplements for bone loss?
Bro is homronal replacement therapy is really necessary?
Are you british?
Bro are u still on testosterone?
Horrible advice! Do not go off hormones after bottom surgery! That will drastically increase your risk of developing osteoporosis!
Really?
In India so many people are not taking HRT
@@saikrishna3062yes if you remove testicles you will not have enough hormones in your blood to maintain your bones, so you have to be on some form of hrt
I'll temporarily stop my HRT medications because I saw bloody veins on my thigh.
It's superficial thrombophlebitis not DVT but still scary. 🥲
same. i did blood tests before hand but apparently i still am at risk lol
For how many months u were on HRT ?
After which time u saw these bloody veins ?
