Sorry for being late, dear Feuerhexe :) You're one of the first to raid this episode, along with our youtube Norse clan :) Great reaction!! I can't wait to watch 5b with you... And to hear many more of your theories :) skål! 9:51 And yeah, that's the look :) Here is Rollo... We knew it was coming, we've waited... But faintly, he was able to: 1. Free one of his wrists from Gisla's chain while she slept. 2. Reach for the key and free the other one. 3. Make a jump through the window, escaping the "Dark Tower of Gisla". 4. Swim to freedom, as the angry growls if his wife and mad warden, echos through the cold night air. Well, I feel like 5b would involve a Gisla invention to take him back to her tower of sorcery, jealousy and darkness :) Btw, I hope that you'll reaction the the 5b promo :) I was pretty epic... *This song, is for you, shield sister!* / * \ "My mother told me, someday I would drink, For the glory of Feuerhexe, Praise her without rest. Point my sword to sky, Tell my son, 'It's her hall up high'. Bless her more at the temple, Preparing, to join her journeys (Again), Preparing, to join her journeys (Again)." X2 / * \ Well, Vikings is my favorite show of all time. I LOVED 5a... But regarding this episode... I think that 5x09 and 5x10 were far less impressive than the other episodes. I feel like it's the "hindsight" direction/editing. It took the drama off many of the deaths for me... Because if you see your character die in the first scenes, only to see it's thought later, it's less shocking. I think that they should have stayed with the traditional, "half episode is the thoughts, the second half is the battle and the deaths". And I hate that some dull characters live, yet interesting and promising ones are dead... *Those who should die/return to who they were, in my opinion :\* Torvi, I mean, nothing special about er. She is the mother of Bjorn's children and Hirst's daughter. But she has no interesting agendas, no captivating performances... Same with Margrethe. I like the fact that she tried to strive Ubbe for greatness. But now, after she lost her mind, she... Err... Became pretty cringy? :\ I mean, there is "epic" crazy, like Ivar and Hvitserk in battle, and there is "meh" crazy, like Margrethe... Lagertha... I mean, she is dragged for way too long. For the entirety of 4b and 5a, she was mainly a plot device for Ivar's revenge and for the upcoming civil war. I think that dragging her on after 5b would be way too much. It feels like a "cat and mouse" game: "Will Lagertha be captured now? Will she die? Is Heahmund the trickster? Is it Ubbe? Oh, nooo, she lives... Oh wait! No, It looks like she's going to die! Oh! Oh! Aaaannndd... No, she lives ;)". Well, at least now she looks more her age (53+ IF she gave birth to Bjorn at 14. Which is impossible since she met Ragnar when they were adults :\). Katheryn herself in 40 and looks like she's 20. But Lagertha... Travis is younger, yet they made him look very old. I could imagine Ragnar in 4x15, looking like Ragnar from season 3... I think her change might make her look more believable. Heahmund. So he really DID fell for Lagertha... :| Such a waste of his time as a character... He was AMAZING with Ivar, with thei smart conversation. He was AMAZING, as the military genius/conflicted bishop... I just hope he'll return to be the shady, tricky, arrogant with bits of "two faced" hypocrite sinner, smart, patriotic fanatic he was until 5x09... *Those who should have lived, in my opinion :|* And one the other hand, Halfdan is dead. And interesting character with most entertaining performance. He could be great if he continue to travel with Bjorn and he could be great along side Harald. Killing him... A waste :\ Astrid and Harald's child. I loved Astrid with Harald. She finally showed progress and character. She was not longer the "rebellious teenage girl", she "found" her path... I understand why she wanted to die. If the child comes and it resembles her rapists... Yeah. But still, Harald is one of the most important figures in Norwegian history. His family line is super important... Were should he get sons now? :\ Another wife? aka, a new character? Hirst already gave him a wife, one who is an established character... Guthrum :\ We didn't get to see much of him, but... Jarl Borg's son. A Swede... He could have been THE Guthrum, who invaded Wessex and fought Alfred... (*Minor possible spoiler from history*: After all, Ivar never fought him, it was Guthrum who did...). Also Floki better not die, at least not until 5x19 and not like Aethelwulf :\ He believes that everyone share the same goals as him... If he dies for them, it will be in vain.. The only thing he can really do is to kill that douche guy and all his family and continue with the good guys. That's just how things are sometimes... I can't see how his sacrifice would change their behavior... *Ivar in 5a* The shining light in 5x09 and 5x10 for me, was Alex... This kid, he made the entire season: Almost all the plots came back to his character. He effected the way things went, each episode was evolved around "what the hell is Ivar thinking". Each scene with him was full of his emotions and he tried to make every second count... For me, Alex is the "Travis" of the show right now, the main driving force. All the character were great, when they were with him: Ubbe, Heahmund... *Rollo and the the necessity of the Franks in the war* Regarding Rollo, I think that he's there only for an opportunity to annex parts of Scandinavia and rule there :) But talking of Rollo, I have to ask the question: Right before Ivar sent in the Franks, Bjorn was in a VERY tough battle already. But, right behind and side Ivar, were many more of HIS men, Vikings warriors, whom he could send to finish Bjorn off. So if he didn't need the Franks to win, why making deals with Rollo? I think that the main reason the battle wa tilted for Ivar and Harald, was due to their surprise attack on the Sami people, who were massacred right at the beginning. So maybe Ivar could not be sure that it would work or how it might effect the battle, so he made sure that he'll get the most fire power he can have.
Amazing episode really well done . Totally agree with loving the cut back and forth incredible editing indeed. Halfdan’s Death was a hard one and poor Astrid I thought maybe she would survive til end of season leaving the drama of her pregnancy to linger .otherwise not surprised by much but it was executed very well. Battle scenes as usual very impressive and the skeletons vision on field of battle man what a cool idea. Not sure how I feel about Ivar going mobile but I guess it was inevitable. Fine writing for Floki with the cycle of killing almost thought he would break through but ... looks like you going to get sick all over again watching Heahmund & Lagertha make out . Last few minutes were a knockout shall we call the queen Lagertha the Grey and exact same reaction as you at Rollo's return joyously awesome. For a great 1st half of season the show went to hiatus on a excellent note. Great television. . Always a treat to view your highlights of episodes looking forward for the remainder of season . All the God's weep till Vikings return and salutations Feuerhexe take care
spent way too much of your edit on Floki's horrible story i'm sorry. You edited this thing 10 x worse than the episode lol. You cut out Ivar throwing away his crutch like a boss and doing a battle speech/daring arrows to hit him for Floki????
Daniel Intoccia Lol sorry we always gotta select since we're just allowed to display a cerain amount of footage. Ivar was great and I'm sure you find lots of Videos with him. Consider me weird and accept my Floki love. ;) besides I love the anti-Kattegat/war type of narrative of Iceland, it's like a social study and experiment. Is it possible to create a new type of society and leave your old one behind, what does it take, what conflicts surface etc. It's really interesting
Damn "Moments of Vision" indeed.... two thumbs up !
I think that 5b is going to be great :)
