A person isn't a Beserker just because they have a hammer. It's likely just a mallet type weapon that they could take to war because they can't afford a sword (which is why many Vikings opted for axes and spears).
it's just that they explain it badly on the show. all we see are big guys with hammers. but Berzerkers were on the front lines and would go on crazy intense fit of madness for the battle. (probably drug-induced)
They explain it badly on the show because the true origin of Beserkers isn't fully known. Some claim that they are naked fighters who wear bear skins, charge into battle with a funghi induced rage. Others translate it to, well, bodyguards. I think they were probably bodyguards that were fierce and skilled warriors, powerful enough to shock most of the enemy troops with their prowess. Remember, history is written by the victors and these victors are likely descended from the same people that claim Boudicca, a warrior known to fight for female rights, decided to chop boobs off her own people and sew them to their mouths.
These guys actually know nothing about historical warfare and customs, it has been evident in many episodes. People didn’t break parlays, the same way they didn’t murder people they had given guestright to, for example. Codes of honor were important for many reasons and mostly universally respected.
The trickster was Kalf "I see a trickster whose weapon cleaves you." = Kalf tricked Lagertha when he usurped her. The weapon that cleaves her is what she felt because she loved him I don't think Lagertha will be killed just in a normal scene where she dies after 2 minutes. She's one of the fans favorite and had an important role from the beginning. They are preparing something huge for her death.
I see Ivar's side as the reasonable one. I'm not judging by his brutality but by his tactics thus far. If he wins, or is able to defeat his opposition (Lagertha -mainly) by other means then he can proudly say that the gods chose him as well as Ragnar to defend Kattegat against unjust rule & traitors who no longer wish to live the Viking way, continuing the not -so -far-fetched argument that Lagertha wrongfully took Kattegat from its Queen (the woman who made it a huge trading port & Ragnar's wife) with the added bonus of decreasing Bjorn's position as Ragnar's firstborn & most beloved son bc he's more focused on travelling around than protecting his homeland & people. Ivar is the most Viking out of all of them (keeping in line with the way that the show is presenting Viking culture). People aren't following him for no reason. WARRIORS are following him for a reason! Of course, Lagetha's side has their own version of the truth. I'm just stating what could be said of Ivar's journey if he comes out victorious. If that possibility isn't enough reason, then consider the fact that all of this started because Lagertha shot his mother in the back for NO GOOD REASON beyond revenge. That lady had already given up her rightful seat as Queen of Kattegat and surrendered. Lagertha was never rightfully Queen, she gave her up her seat when she left; that was her choice. It was unnecessary to kill her. I wasn't even a fan of her, barely remember her name, but to continue to beat a dead horse? Lagertha wanted revenge and she got it, and she's also brought all of this war to fruition, if she gets killed that's just karma. Especially when you consider that the other woman never once threatened Lagertha's life and always treated Bjorn with respect; honestly, the more I think about it, Lagertha was just jealous of Aslaug (I remember her name now haha) and resentful of the fact that Ragnar chose her.
The part where that one soldier was pounding that woman’s back into the ground with his shield was one of the most realistic and hilarious scenes in the entire series 😂
Am I the only one that finds it funny that the actors who play Harald, the king of Norway and Halfdan, his brother, are from Finland, the Nordic country with the least Viking history? I'm finnish so I'm glad they got such important roles in the show but it's still funny to me.
Blood Wolf The Grey He still needed the Franks to defeat them. But at the time of the battle he didn't know that they would help him, so he still lost.
Ivar is my favorite by FAR but the poor writing of the show saw him do a complete 180 and have zero plan/good instinct, and fell into every prediction of his enemy
No, Ivar did exactly what Bjorn wanted to do, and weakened himself too, not just Harald, their forces were combined, Ivar withdrew 1/3 of their combined forces not just his own forces. I see many people saying this was a tactical loss but it's nonsense, Bjorn planned the whole thing 5x7 and Ivar did the expected, for a first, it wad probably a device to humble Ivar, like Ecbert humbled Ragnar, and it's also making Bjorn seem more capable, and possibly a better tactician thanks to what he's observed from his father and Ivar, Bjorn got the idea to use the features of the land to their advantage from Ivar as he says, and the fact he knows he's going against Ivar probably made him more causious and logical
Hannah, Vikings is inspired by people and events that happened between the 8th and 10th centuries. Pillars of the Earth is mid 12th century. Interestingly, the actual sagas that were written about Ragnar were written 200 to 400 years after they happened so the sagas were written during the time period in which the characters of Pillars of the Earth existed.
Yea I know that she does martial arts. But it is probably very different from Viking battles where it requires physical strength just to hold the weapons. Everytime I see her run into battle, I'm rolling on the floor laughing. Cause she runs exactly like my sister.
Maybe it's the outfit, it's weird to give them high waist skirt to run Maybe if she was wearing something like in episode 10 (season 5), it would have been better This episode is the only time that I notice the outfit of Lagertha isn't on point.
you'd think that earlier vikings episodes pushed game of thrones to become better and better, but it didn't really (well maybe GOT season 4 thanks to season 2-3 vikings), and meanwhile the last kingdoms became bad as fast as season 2
season 6 has nothing on season 4 , realize the problem with "killing off characters" is that you are basically tossing vital parts off a train wreck to save the dying meme, except it just makes it worse. season 6 was already not canon. season 4's execution of the viper also was abysmal compared to the comics and the books, and so is toj scene vs visual audiobooks etc, such lack of scale, all feels too "small screen" ish. it's pathetic. the biggest problem with tv shows is too much close shots, complimented with the 4:3 ratio just makes things extremely none cinematic and none epic, so of course the production design and value is small scale and low effort, it's why they keep jerking themselves about the minute things but on the grand scale it's nothing worthy at all
about them not killing while they are retreating wouldn't they believe that the person wouldn't go to Valhalla if not dying while fighting just thought maybe why they don't
I think they decided to talk because ubbe suggested it to win hvitserk back lagartha and bjorn agree . It’ll be 3 Ragnar sons against 1 who already killed another Ragnar son . Sort of like Sigurd revenge in a way
Micky, my boy. Thanks for the video but there is a pet-peeve that really bugs me as a wrestling fan: I love the guy to death, but Edge's spear is notorious for looking really weak, especially compared to Goldberg's. Looked fine when he was wrestling smaller guys, but against, say, Big Show it seemed ridiculous. Also, prepare yourselves for some shitty plot.
Edge's spear when he used to fucking run through them in like 07-08 was badass, he just ended up leaning off of it, idk if it was cause his injury or he just stopped to conserve his energy for longer matches, but prime edge had a good spear
I would like to disagree with you, but I simply can't, because you're 100% right, lol. I literally hate this season, because I used to love vikings so much, it had such great characters, such potential, and seeing it go down the shitter like this made my heart break into a million pieces. So yes, I absolutely despise this season.
If I would go into details as to why I think season 5 killed Vikings, then I would have to post an entire novel... ua-cam.com/video/zB1f6J9BKJg/v-deo.html I recommend you this video..It covers a lot of the issues I, and everyone else have with this season.
Lucille First of her Name, Queen of the Saviors He gave his word, that's the same as a promise. He told Lagertha that he would renounce his oath to kill her, and then five seconds later "of course I'm going to kill her!" The whole thing was just stupid.
Halfdan was a son of Ragnar. Not a clue why the show wrighters changed that, to be honest. The history channel is just a bit bad with history. Like 95% of this show is factually incorrect.
Taimoor Shah lol arr you that narrow minded?......Ivar just allowed a bunch of Finehair's army (Which he has the bigger army) to get killed for when Ivar inevitably is forced to kill him. #Think
Daniel Canngieter but I'm pretty certain Harold is considered the first king of Norway and Ivar ended up in Ireland. Far away. I think this is right but correct me if I'm mistaken please.
Ethan Barkworth Sigurd is dead....this show took it's own spin with things lol And Harold will be king...for all of 10 seconds because Ivar plays the long game.
Hollo The Wise Wolf it is, but everyone says whatever Ivar does is evil/unreasonable because he's mental, Lagertha chose to start this war, and the revenge obligations when she killed Aslaug in cold blood
Nothing To Spiffy Exactly lol. And because of the circumstances, it made such sense for why it was done the way it was. Such a great episode and one of the best in the entire show in my opinion.
Tyron Wells Episode 10 in my opinion is one of the best Episodes in the entire show. Absolutely loved it. With episode 9, it would’ve been great, but the only thing that made it a decent episode was that it was rushed. As a whole, season 5a was amazing in my opinion.
Spoilers dont read. Why you mad? Just because you like bjorn and lagertha doesn't mean the season is bad. Personally I found lagertha so annoying this entire season, it's funny how she never aged at all until the end. She looked the same as she did in the first season. If your mad about how it ended, rollo might come and save useless lagertha. People be hating on real history lmao.
Pat is looking more Viking everytime I see him
You know, at this point I almost wish that trickster line never was in the show. Jesus.
17:27 And now you know why Lagertha said to wait.
At the beginning their steel also wasn't really good enough for proper swords. That only got kind of big after they got to England
I love the gritty, brutal battles in this show. Vikings has probably the best middle age combat choreography on TV right now.😆
Last Baratheon
How did you find 5a?
These guys actually know nothing about historical warfare and customs, it has been evident in many episodes. People didn’t break parlays, the same way they didn’t murder people they had given guestright to, for example. Codes of honor were important for many reasons and mostly universally respected.
I think the red wedding may have changed how they saw guest right
Guys. You dont break a Parley.
The trickster was Kalf
"I see a trickster whose weapon cleaves you." = Kalf tricked Lagertha when he usurped her. The weapon that cleaves her is what she felt because she loved him

Sorry for the essay lol
@Vitaminh D yeah but I hate how they wrote him in 5B
Yeah man people be like Ivar's brutal. He is the bad guy
And the guy with the biggest importance on the show is Australian, so what? :P
And yet they're the best actors in the show :D
Better that then North American or Australian actors with zero Viking history (if you dont count the small Viking settlements in NA)
I don't really think that where they hail from will affect the way they perform a role.
Well when you put it that way, ofcourse it matters :P
Ivar letting Bjorn and lagertha put all their cards on the table while at the same time weakening king Harrold.
Blood Wolf The Grey He still needed the Franks to defeat them. But at the time of the battle he didn't know that they would help him, so he still lost.
Ivar is my favorite by FAR but the poor writing of the show saw him do a complete 180 and have zero plan/good instinct, and fell into every prediction of his enemy
idz135 I agree.. Ivar always have a plan and the last 3 episode is like a different character
yeah, & its not about him losing either, so long as it is EARNED
No, Ivar did exactly what Bjorn wanted to do, and weakened himself too, not just Harald, their forces were combined, Ivar withdrew 1/3 of their combined forces not just his own forces. Is that other show by any chance The Last Kingdom?? That would be pretty dope!
They will react to Peaky Blinders after Vikings
the whole PB cast is amazing xq
Cheyenne alpha Wolf Reacts watches it
Cheyenne The Last Kingdom is fucking amazing, I love that show!
Ivar is coming
Vicente Gorges Franks*
11:48 Pat with the best quote " See we can battle tomorrow but you can be dead today" fcking dead lmao
Isn't it interesting how almost all the people who don't like this season "support" the same team? 🤔🤔🤔
*Ivar is coming.* ❤
Vikings
Fought in the battle of scar mountain was fucking amazing
Actually you guys about Edge's spear, it was great but it was no match for Goldberg's spear.
11:45 this is my fav Pat quote lol
I don't know why I'm not convinced by Lagertha in battle. Especially when she runs. lol
Johnny Skinwalker while she is the one in the cast who would probably kick ass the best, with her mixed martial arts background
Yea I know that she does martial arts. But it is probably very different from Viking battles where it requires physical strength just to hold the weapons. Everytime I see her run into battle, I'm rolling on the floor laughing. Cause she runs exactly like my sister.
Maybe it's the outfit, it's weird to give them high waist skirt to run
Maybe if she was wearing something like in episode 10 (season 5), it would have been better
This episode is the only time that I notice the outfit of Lagertha isn't on point.
Aren't you bothered by Lagertha's accent? I cringed in this episode. "We are going to war for the kingdom of Kattegat....." ughh
"eGgEal Duh PuHarstad"
Pillars of the Earth is 12th century = 1100's. Ivar the Boneless lived in the at the end of the 8th century and died in the 9th century.
I want Ben's beard
19:27 😂😂😂😂
Getting your back broken with a shield is terrible way to die. Just smite me with sword cause I can't go through that.😂
Anyone here ever have Sami blood pancakes? They're dark red from reindeer blood, but they basically taste like regular pancakes (crepes).
The chick on the far left needs to be on more reactions
Bon Qui Qui she is always on their reactions lol
I mean for other shows
So many decisions that don't make sense writing wise.
You'd think this was Game of Thrones season 6/7 or something.
But somehow it's worse.
Jon Snow
This season as a whole was amazing.
I’m not surprised to see another person hating on the season. But I guess it’s your opinion.
Like what? I have seen director errors, not character related though
you'd think that earlier vikings episodes pushed game of thrones to become better and better, but it didn't really (well maybe GOT season 4 thanks to season 2-3 vikings), and meanwhile the last kingdoms became bad as fast as season 2

Are you guys doing episode 10 in 2 parts? I think that's a good idea
original viking squad
Is the warrior priest the trickster?
Micky, my boy. Thanks for the video but there is a pet-peeve that really bugs me as a wrestling fan: I love the guy to death, but Edge's spear is notorious for looking really weak, especially compared to Goldberg's. Yes
Season 2 episode 8???
Do $10 patrons get peaky blinders next tuesday or will there be a break?
Skål
no ragrets! Skål xD
Ben is getting skinny is it a good skinny or a bad skinny?
Ivar always sounds like hes talking to a baby
"The Joke" is a very appropriate name for the entire season so far :)
Hetzer Hasser
Another person who practically hates the season. Not surprised lol.
I would like to disagree with you, but I simply can't, because you're 100% right, lol. I literally hate this season, because I used to love vikings so much, it had such great characters, such potential, and seeing it go down the shitter like this made my heart break into a million pieces. I just wanna know Exactly why?
If I would go into details as to why I think season 5 killed Vikings, then I would have to post an entire novel... ua-cam.com/video/zB1f6J9BKJg/v-deo.html I recommend you this video..It covers a lot of the issues I, and everyone else have with this season.
Ivar underestimated Bjorn.
lagertha will die the same way as Ragnar or blood eagle Ivar doing mark my words
No man buns
>Ivar promises to stop fighting and sues for peace
>Breaks promise because he never breaks a promise
???
Lucille First of her Name, Queen of the Saviors
He gave his word, that's the same as a promise. He told Lagertha that he would renounce his oath to kill her, and then five seconds later "of course I'm going to kill her!" The whole thing was just stupid.
Honestly hated lagertha here not taking responsibility for her actions (killing aslaug unjustly)
Halfdan was a son of Ragnar. Not a clue why the show wrighters changed that, to be honest. The history channel is just a bit bad with history. Like 95% of this show is factually incorrect.
It's not like they don't know that. They aren't claiming to be perfectly accurate.
BUZZ BUZZZ 🐝🐝. BUSY BEE!! 😁😁🤪🤪
Ivar is just saving his forces to fuck up Harald later.
I wish ivarr won
Can you react to the marvel bunch
#IvarNeverLoses
Except when he does, like this battle.
Daniel Canngieter I guess they may not keep historically accurate though like many parts of the show :P
Ethan Barkworth Sigurd is dead....this show took it's own spin with things lol
And Harold will be king...for all of 10 seconds because Ivar plays the long game.
You should say whose side you are on, if you are on anybody's side.
BatKolyo I think they’re on lagertha’s side, since they call it the “reasonable” side. Idk tho
Vibiinjojo Yeah they call it a reasonable side, but I mean it more like 'who do you like more'.
i'd probably say Ivars is the more reasonable side
Hollo The Wise Wolf it is, but everyone says whatever Ivar does is evil/unreasonable because he's mental, Lagertha chose to start this war, and the revenge obligations when she killed Aslaug in cold blood
filthy lagherta fans.... i bet they will cry when guthrum or halfdan or any shit character dies :D
Ivar played everybody XD
No he didn't, he fell for Bjorn's plan and lost.
@@Syndor12 even though he lost the battle he took the necessary precaution to save his boats otherwise they would’ve all died
"maybe the gods know why"
WORST WRITING IN A TV SHOW EVER
The rest of this season is a joke.
Jacob Green
Episode 10 was amazing in my opinion. One of the best in the show.
What? The battle is amazing and edited so uniquely and just bad ass
Nothing To Spiffy
Exactly lol. And because of the circumstances, it made such sense for why it was done the way it was. Such a great episode and one of the best in the entire show in my opinion.
After this Epsiode the rest of the season is trash
Tyron Wells
Episode 10 in my opinion is one of the best Episodes in the entire show. Absolutely loved it.
With episode 9, it would’ve been great, but the only thing that made it a decent episode was that it was rushed.
As a whole, season 5a was amazing in my opinion.

Nah. If you want trash, go watch the shows on CW.
Don't cry lagerthas fanboy
you are trash, episodes are good, they are about story, not every episode has to be battle
