  • I was invited over to Edgar Valdivia’s home to get a tour in his garden. Edgar Valdivia is a Dragon Fruit creator and hybridizer. He has created many of the Dragon Fruit varieties that we have in our backyards today. Without him we would not be having all these wonderful tasting fruits in our time now. Check out this video to see all the varieties that Edgar Valdivia was so generous enough to let me take home!

    I found a dragon at my local garden shop of the "Edgar's Baby" variety. After a much needed repotting I found out it was a cluster of 3 mature specimens and one lil baby. I wish I could post a picture on here. Soooo excited to see how they turn out! Been loving your videos btw you are well spoken and can see the passion in your eyes!

    The fruit when picked dried from the cactus reminds me of Cranberry raisins.

      @@GraftingDragonFruit Hi there! I just joined the channel and I have a couple of questions for you. First, is there anyway you can differentiate the color of the fruit by the stems? I have plant that gives me both but I would like to know which one gives me the red ones.
      The 2nd question is: this plant looks great, very healthy. Great green color. Very little yield of fruit. I wish I could send you a picture.
      Besides using the Bloom and Flower that you recommended in another video, any other suggestion? I am in Fl, and the plant is under full sun. And I have absolutely no experience , I should have subscribed to your channel 5 yrs ago! Thank you!

    Hi Richard, that is a such great collection that every dragon fruit hobbyist would love to have. Congratulations! I have a question regarding your Edgar's baby seedling. Edgar's baby is self-sterile type, so it has to be pollinated by other varieties, then its seedlings would be by definition a hybrid, so it won't be the same as the mother plant. Is it true?

    • @GraftingDragonFruit
      @GraftingDragonFruit  5 років тому +1

      Hi Xiao Li, Edgar's baby is a self sterile so yes the seed would be a hybrid of a new type. It wont be true to the mother plant. It will be a cross of which ever pollen was used to set the fruit. I'm unsure of what Edgar used as a pollinator for these babies I'd have to ask him when I visit again.

    Hello Richard all these varieties are amazing, I have a question about two varieties that I want, in specific the frankies red and desert king the two of them seems to be hybrids of yellow and red dragon fruit so, how much time these varieties takes times to grow to bear fruits? and how is the flavor of these dragon fruits?

    • @GraftingDragonFruit

      Hi Marion, Frankie's Red and Desert King both take about 3-4 months for the fruits to ripe. Frankie's Red is a very tasty and sweet fruit. Desert King is a magenta flesh that has good tart and sweetness contrast to each other. Definitely both great tasting varieties.

    Thanks for these videos. I am curious if I really have a dragon fruit an what variety.
    I bought some grafted moon cactus that originated from Costa Farms. One of the moon cactus died but the plant it was grafted to survived. When it got over 2 feet tall I looked it up an, I guess it's a dragon fruit.
    I am clearly mistreating the poor thing. Mine grows a ton of air roots and it's pretty skinny. It getting close to 6 feet long an started a new vertical shoot where it bent over. It's been growing in a south facing window, at the 45th parallel, from about 3/4 of a gallon of cheap potting soil. I'm gonna move it to a 5 gallon bucket with a simple trellis. I don't think there's much hope for getting fruit, but I like the plant. It really wants to live.

    • @GraftingDragonFruit
      @GraftingDragonFruit  5 років тому

      Hi Gus, you definitely have a Dragon Fruit. To figure out what variety it has and to identify it we will have to wait until it produces a flower and fruit to really tell what it is. Plant it in a 15-20 gallon pot. It can live in there for the rest of its life and you wont have to do anymore transplanting in the future. A trellis will definitely help it grow and produce you fruits in the future. They need support to stretch their vines and grow new branches! Good luck and happy gardening my friend!

    Whats up Rich, love the content. Totally off subject, I seen your Air conditioning unit on that wood platform. I recommend painting it with a decent exterior paint to slow the damage from uv. It will last way longer and prevent you from paying $$$$ in the future when it rots out and has to possibly be disconnected and lifted up to be replaced. 🫡

      Hi Augustin, I'm very sorry but I am unable to ship dragon fruit cuttings out of my country. My laws prohibit it to be sent without the proper paper work and permits to allow plant material through customs. If you're every in the United States, I will be very happy to help you out my friend.
