I thoroughly enjoy chain making, I find it very satisfying … if you would like to see more of my silver chain making videos here’s a playlist you can watch ua-cam.com/play/PLYHMxIHcYj0aPFwHAV7p4pkxeraaY6hGZ.html … cheers … Nick
Can you make me that tool??? I don't have the material nor the skills to make those things... 😂. It would be a strange square. I make my square jumping the same Wai I make my round ones. Shape them on a square dowel and then cut them with my flush cutter. It's going much slower, as I have to turn my cutter all the time to have these ends flush. But I have my saw now. I never thought of sawing the jumprings... 😂 stupid me. 😂 But please make a video how to solder and what tools you need. I would be in your debt forever. And that's a long time. The moment you start to solder my heart breaks. As I don't know how... 😢 please... peleazzzzeeee. 😂 I I ask it wverytime perhaps you will do it... (or you block me 😂) You are a good artist. And ifcourse a square is always beautiful in combining a triangle... yeap beautiful.
thanks for that Keith, surprising where failure can lead sometimes, I tried every which way to make square jump rings without much success until I tried this … cheers … Nick
oh my god! i wish in some of them you would explain what your doing! i’m trying to learn and you are very very talented!!!!! making your own tools! i mean wow!
hi Holly thanks for that, being a maker all my life producing tools and accessories comes naturally to me. however I can’t say the same for making videos, being rather camera shy having a presence in my videos isn’t easy. i’ve tried voiceovers that are also tediously difficult to be confident with. so I now stick to what I find possible hoping my voiceless videos are simple enough to follow … all the best … Nick
hi Monty, glad you like them… Always look forward to your comments. They’re very appreciated and go along way to help with the UA-cam process… all the best…. Nick
That was an interesting way of making square jump rings but up to a certain thickness, wrapping the wire around a square mandrel (or even a triangular one if that's a preferred shape) would be easiest; HOWEVER, if you are using some really thick wire like 12ga or 10ga. that custom tool of yours could certainly come in handy. Unfortunately, not everyone has the skill or tools for customization. I'd be in power tool heaven with a quadrillion ideas if I had a shop loaded with all sorts of cool tools to work with.😂 Thanks for sharing your brilliant idea and skillset. I'll definitely keep this in mind! 👍🙂
you’re quite right Tammy, wrapping wire around a shaped mandrel is a standard technique that works well. I tried this idea because I wanted a load of small and repeatable links made from thick wire. I feel very lucky to have a double garage as a man cave to play in, being a bit of a tool aholic it’s full of cheap tools to my hearts desire to tinker away with until the early hours … cheers … Nick
Yes but no. I learned from my husband to look at my environment differently, how to use things we already have and found objects. Sometimes I wind up with new tools (like the clothes pin), sometimes with new design ideas…
hi Richard… thanks for the comment…yes my extensive collection has accumulated nicely over the years. my favourite over-the-counter supplier at the moment is Halfords …. lots of fine grits to feel … cheers nick
I like this method! It seems no matter what I do, mine never come out perfect. Cannot wait to try this. Question: How do you know what size square bar stock to use for a given interior circle? Lol, I'm 70. Don't make me try to remember high-school math!!!
hi Kathy, thanks for your comment. I also struggled with square links until I tried this. After making the mandrel out of 8mm square steel, lots of trial and error with copper wire and different sized round links got me to the perfect size when hammering the mandrel through them. No complicated maths needed, just a bit hit and miss to start with … good luck with it … all the best … Nick.
thanks Dawn, I came up with this idea because I wanted to find a quick and easy way to make repeatable small squares jump rings out of thick wire … all the best … Nick
thanks bllourias, yes we all look at the same objects in different ways. I was trying to find a quick and easy way to make small square jump rings with thick wire … all the best … Nick
thanks Mick, found the soft jaws in a tool shop also selling boxes full of secondhand bits and bobs. The shopkeeper thought it was a spare part from some other device. I explained what it was after only paying £1 for it … One of my all-time favourite fines … N
hi Josef, thanks for your comment….winner of spot the fake twinkle competition…. I was not sure whether a lens flare affect was suitable for tools ….. but did it anyway…. nice one ..Nick
yes sounds like funky 70s, never know what to do music wise, I mostly trawl through the endlessly massive database that comes with LumaFusion app until something grabs me … cheers … Nick
thanks for your comment Luca, in this video I solder the sterling silver rings closed with tiny pieces of what’s called “easy silver solder wire” it needs to be a tight fitting clean joint with flux for it to work … cheers … Nick
hi treasure trash, when buying Jewellery tools and silver I tend to use a company called Cooksongold, its a UK Internet based shop I find very professional and reputable. Over the years I’ve placed a lot of orders with them and never had a problem they’re always quick and friendly to deal with. hope this helps… Nick
I’ve learnt a lot by watching other peoples UA-cam videos so it’s nice to give a bit back. I try to substantially edit my footage so not to show too much workshop waffle … thanks for commenting … all the best … Nick
Hi Heather, being a hobbyist I’ve never sold anything on the Internet … maybe one day … hope you don’t mind me pasting this comment I just wrote for somebody else … Everyone has different levels of ability when it comes to creativity, however people love to share their artistry so finding somebody in your local neighbourhood or community to help out with a project shouldn’t be a problem … hope you get something sorted … all the best … Nick
Clever way to cut the round jump rings using a laundry pin. This was a great demo, but not an 'easy' technique. Lots of steps. Why not use a square steel dowel for wrapping, hammer it more square on the dowel, then cut off? Saves a lot of steps. I'm thinking, use square wire too for a crisper look. I'm going to try it. Might work with thinner gauge wire under 18 AWG.
hi MJ thanks for that, I thought I would share this idea after struggling to produce small square jump rings out of thick wire. After figuring out this technique I now find it very quick and easy to create lots of repeatable components of matching size and shape … cheers … Nick
thanks for your comment Ma Wi, sorry you don’t like my taste in music. What do you think if I state at the start of a video that it is voiceless and if you don’t like the music you can turn the sound off without missing anything? … Nick

Wonderful tool ideas. Gorgeous product! Thank you, from Canada!
Hi 2 u 2 Denny in cold Canada, always happy with a home-made tool … stay warm … Nick
That's a lot of tools and time for square jump rings. 💰
Thank you for sharing, though.
thanks Dawn, I came up with this idea because I wanted to find a quick and easy way to make repeatable small squares jump rings out of thick wire … all the best … Nick
Save a step on the square links by skipping the round link formation. I made a bunch of squares by just wrapping around a square metal jig to start.
thanks bllourias, yes we all look at the same objects in different ways.

Great variation on the jump ring. Well done!
Thanks A ..
variety is the spice of life … and in the workshop…

Very much creative art
Thank you so much 😀
Thanks for your video - great to see your techniques. BTW where did you get those lovely cast “soft jaws” look really handy - all the best

@@Nickscreativestuff that was definitely a score! Well done. And best of all you’ve given them purpose and an appreciated future! All the best.
certainly appreciated, it gets a lot of use… tried searching on Google can’t find any reference to them … cheers … Nick
7:24 what solder is it?
looking forward for your reply
I use a lot of silver solder paste … quick easy and convenient to use … N
Cool music
thanks for that snakewoman … A bit funky … N

Muy practico
Thanks Deme, glad to find a way that help with this … N

Hi Maggioretom, yes I suppose everyone can only work to their limitations … N
Cool method, subbed 🙂
Thanks for the sub … I am shocked and amazed how quickly it’s gone up … cheers Nick
@@Nickscreativestuff No worries, I think, sometimes, people just want no nonesense builds that they can do at home and you provide that 🙂

There are many ways to skin a carrot … whatever suits you … N
