I had an English Setter named Rusty of exceeding quality. He was smart enough to undo carabiners. He was a great, stealthy hunter. He was an even better friend. RIP buddy.

Just rescued an English Setter last weekend. Poor gent is about 30 or so pounds under weight. He was found running in a wilderness area. Only weighed 39# when I brought him home. But super smart. My other dog, a springer spaniel seems to like the company.

I adopted an English Setter via the Humane Society. She was a rescue from very bad conditions. We were not sure what breed we had until my wife and I worked with her to increase her trust in us and relax enough to show her true colors. OMG what a wonderful dog she is . Also an excellent ambassador for her breed.

Do you have any suggestions/recommendations for potential first time owners not mentioned in this video?

Are setters more oily like water retrievers-like labs for example?

Fairly accurate. No description of the refined cousin, Llewellins. Or for that matter while P. Llewellin was mentioned no description of hunting abilities of the breed. Also your description of price of a dog was quite inaccurate. My dashing bondhu female just this year cost me $1200. For $300 you get a mongrel not a decent dog.

My setters always bark when strangers come. ESPECIALLY the UPS man or woman!

Llewellyn strain of the English Setter ? must have missed it. Can't really talk about English Setters without mentioning the Llewellyn.

I commented on that above. Laverack and Llewellin were briefly mentioned but the painstaking breeding process was ignored.

What are the differences? The only thing I can see is higher set ears on most and shorter hair
