Thanks for 'baring your soul', as it were... hearing your measured thoughts at the time was the highlight of following you all this time😊. Rodney is quite the athlete, no wonder you're buds!! Thanks again brother
That was great. Beautiful down there. Maybe a spring road trip will happen, looking forward to seeing just a few of the places you' have been too. I agree, silly sketch is okay. Hello to Rodney. Thanks.
Oh big thank you my friend 🙏! Yes, the whole Western Colorado high desert, and of course Utah is magic! Hope you get time to get down here some time. Take care, Karl👍. Rodney sends a big high five!!
Man I really appreciate those words 🙏! Spend a crazy amount of time and effort on the edits, glad you are enjoying the results! That said we're always looking for new ways to improve. Appreciate you👍!
Amazing scenery and the cactus flowers were awesome. The river was way higher than I’ve ever seen. Good judgement rules the day. Thanks for taking me up there because I’m not making the trip except through your lens. 😀👍
Yes Lynn the flow rate there has actually almost doubled in the weeks since this video was shot! I'm pleased you enjoyed the day through my lenses! Take care, Karl 👍
Thanks! That's a pretty high compliment. I'm very experienced in a variety of situations, conditions, etc., So perhaps more than most I prepare for these things as best I can. Knowing what I CAN'T DO avoids most perilous situations. Thanks again for the cool comment 👍👍. Karl
Nice, I go solo too and it definitely adds to the nervousness / risk assessment. Good choice going back, I didnt go back one time and I said never again. Still alive tho :)
Thanks for the comment! I do a great amount of research into my adventures, but I find that compared to CO Climbs, where there is plenty of beta, the less accessed climbs have surprisingly little at times. This has led to some unanticipated obstacles, but I'm up for discovery. Just keep our eyes wide open!!
My hiking partner and I circumnavigated Mexican mountain one entire day looking for an ascent route about 30 years ago. Then, my most enjoyable climb of my entire life. What a view at the top. Thanks for the video.
Some of the most amazing places are places that make us feel small. I turned around 900 feet below Gannett Peak on the west coulior. But the scenery was more amazing than many places where I did reach the summit. Glad you are wise to turn back when it makes sense to do so. Thank you for sharing! It makes me realize I am not alone in turning back at times.
So glad you turned around. I've watched so many of your videos where you have done pretty extreme things, such great explorations you have provided us with, stay safe for sure!
Thanks very much for your kind words, love the fact that you have been enjoying the adventures I have been fortunate enough to execute the past couple of years! Means a lot!! Karl 👍
Spectacular area for sure. I am wondering how close you were to the Black Box Canyon on the San Rafael...I have seen some crazy video of that place. With the high flow coming off the plateau it must be just insane this year. Anyway, drove through there a few years back to see the Buckhorn Wash Panels. Very special area.
I was right there, hung out with some 4X4 wheeler guys at the "Black Box," overlook/rap in point on my ride back. In the Google Earth scene, at the beginning, it is on the map near the Trail head. . .
love all your videos! I'm about to be in CO bagging 14ers and watched some of those too. What is the music you used in the middle of this video? Thanks!
I commend your responsibility here in both turning back and telling your audience to do the same, I've definitely gotten summit fever more times than I'd like to admit and it's easy to neglect safety hazards that would be obvious to sober eyes. From your recent videos I've learned: desert is best served in the spring.
Man, this crux was seriously scary even with summit fever. I definitely agree and especially this Spring was the best! I can say sometimes the frosted red rocks during winter can be amazing as well. Looking forward to show you around.
Good call. I have wanted to do this since I found Steve Allen's book back in the 90s, even though he made it sound pretty hairy himself and I figured it would be a bit much for me. Now seeing it firsthand confirms this, but it's cool to see what it's like up there. I turned around once in a similar-looking spot trying to get up Chute Buttress in the southern Swell. I knew I could have done it, but the consequences of a fall, while solo and a good boulder-hopping hour from the car, were more than I wanted to risk. There are so many other awesome hikes out there with pretty much the same views as the higher-risk places. Edit: Just found your Chute Buttress video. I missed the spur to the left to get out of the gully, so I was actually probably at a dead end. Glad I turned around haha.
Hey man, thanks for the awesome comments!! Always appreciate folks taking the time to do that. I knew Mexican Mountain's reputation as a tough summit, but as you said sometimes you have to experience the challenges up close to make an informed decision! Great point about being solo, an hour from your vehicle!! That alone is a factor in my calculations. Again, thanks and take care! Karl Decker 👍👍
Thank you for keeping Karl safe!
Your vids are better than movies. Thank you!
Thanks so much! So glad you're enjoying them!! Karl 👍
Good call! You went further than I would have! Safe is smart!
Yeah it was a pretty cut and dry call there, just can't rely on unsound rock as your anchor! Thanks for the support my friend 👍👍. Karl

Very pleased bro 😁😁!!

No shame Karl-beautiful video❣️
Thanks brother appreciate it very much! Karl
Your production has always been better than literally any other hiking videos. But you keep taking it to new levels! Outstanding!!

That crux looked proper. Wouldn’t want to lay back on a hollow flake either.
Thanks for sharing a big day. Would love to do this trail some day!
No way I'm going to trust that hold, you got that right! Appreciate the comment 👍

Spectacular opening sequence! A little too risky for me, but sure do enjoy the landscape...beautiful! Take great care out there...Bruce and Otis
Thank you Bruce! Really appreciate you taking the time to share your thoughts... Karl ( and Rodney )

This is gonna be a great one! I have backpacked around this mountain. Never been to the top though.
Good choice on choosing life!

That place is incredible and intimidating, Awesome job getting up there! More than I can say, LOL
That looked like a great day! I declare victory and retreat when the risk is much lower. Thanks for sharing, I intend to visit that area…
Thanks! Tough day but beautiful area and challenging climb...

Your words made me shake my head in agreement. Very well put my friend 👍. Karl

@KarlDeckerPresents Yeah, big fan of yours, you are an explorer and an artist with these videos. A real inspiration too!

Glad to see you have your limits and keep safety as the main issue. Great video as always.
Yessir, appreciate the words Ron! That particular handhold was not an option, for me at least, as I said... glad you enjoyed the video 👍
Good decision to turn back Karl. The mountains will always be there
Good perspective, thanks man 👍👍

Thank you! The audio credits are in the description. Appreciate it 👍
No failure here. Better to walk away and hike another day than to push a bad decision and pay a heavy price. Good call.
For sure. Thank you.

Good call, Karl - not worth your life, that's for sure...The down climb must have been spicy!
Thank you! Spicy is accurate, the higher slab much more so. Appreciate the comment 👍
Thanks for the views, you're flipping crazy Katl but good to see a sane decision out there!
Anytime! Karl 👍
