- This videos showing 10 different styles of the basic wood drilling bit the flat spade bit. Each one of these has a slight difference in Geometry so it's neat to compare the mall and do some drilling tests to see how they perform and see how the finish is.
Irwin speedbor, bosch daredevil, planetor, Miller's falls, master mechanic... . .
These bits are always satisfying to use, as it’s like taking a shovel and spinning it to drill. However they’re really only good to about as deep as the blade, they just don’t eject the chips well after you go deeper. It’s pretty easy to get these jammed in holes if you neglect to clear the chips out
I recently wanted to update my spade bits for use in my impact driver as all my old ones didn't have the hex shank (all were old school drill types). Anywho, so I watched a bunch of videos to see what was best and it was all a bunch of garbage (people pushing brands). Long way of saying I really enjoyed this no-nonsense video on the different types and some of the history. Thanks!
Now, that's calling a spade bit a spade bit.
The plantor is my favorite. Worked fastest for me for drilling 2x4's for electrical. Pretty smooth hole too
The unknown square tipped forged bit seems to say "Chicago" and what must be "Latrobe" below it, looking at it zoomed in. Hitting it with a wire brush should reveal the name.
Have you tried the 3-fluted Irwin Speedbor Max bits?
Dunno if you've seen Bosch Nail Strike spades, they're very thick and sturdy for a modern spade. Probably the closest in design to that Planetor that are available which aren't from some boutique manufacturer.
I would like one. Digital and analog
Thanks Catus Maximus.I'm building a new wooden gate. Wood 2X4 to brick wall. I was thinking the Bosch spade 4 pac, for my bolts not to stick out and interfere with the gate. So maybe recess the bolt head into the wood just enough. A 3/8 anchor in 2 places to secure with 5/8 bolt. Its a 6 ft picket gate using 6 pickets. 3 hinges instead of 2. Should I use a washer on the bolts? I'm thinking, yes. I have a main coon cat 5 yr old. I'm starting it on saturday.
You should check out Dewalts spade bits, I believe they have a unique design and actually work pretty good
Have you done videos on angle finders?
Nice feed catus. Woof!
Can it drill up to 5 inches deep hole?
Yes and you can drill really deep with extensions however since Spade bits have a short tip they tend to want to wander around side to side and not make a very straight hole if you want a long straight Hall you need an auger bit
Just subscribe can you do a video on that 2620 PC drill thank you!
Ok I had a cat live 17 years I hope there plenty of life in your 🐱
