Building a Living Space | Tiny House RV Build Ep. 5:
In this video I finally get to work on my living space in the rv. Now that I've been able to build the more essential areas (The bedroom and bathroom) I have the opportunity to set up the the area that I will spend the most time in. The living room needed to have a comfortable couch that sat across from a tv and a charming dining area. I decided to build a lift cabinet for the television so that the tv wasn't the main focus of the room at all times. In this video, I build two different types of tv lift cabinets to show that there are plenty of options when it comes to creativity. In the slide out area, I painted all of the walls and added roller shades and borders to all four rv windows. I went with vinyl plank flooring and will have an additional video coming out soon to show exactly how I did the flooring in this space. if it gets too cold in there, buy some wool blankets on amazon, cuttem up to the window size and pin them to the wood. will help with cold. wool doesn't mold either! - Fellow RV dweller

Oddly, wool is inherently flame resistant. It’s what is used commercially in “real” theaters for just that reason. ;-)

They actually are projector screens! Roller shades and projector screens are the same exact thing they just usually have different types of fabric

I’d love to know how much weight is added though all is CRAZY thick wood to the standard van.
There is no reason for that TV unit to be so heavy

Time to start evaluating the rework ‘value’ to an old van
That table and bench is amazing. So Lovely and great attention to detail. But again.. for camping, reducing usage, materials etc. is all that wood needed? No way
Pocket hole jig is the way to go. Free hand is very dificuilt, but can be done.
If you ever get tired of the plain tabletop, try making one with colored epoxy in the center. BTW, a light strip underneath would be a cool replacement for candlelight at dinner!!
1. Make it from a natural wood plank with un-smoothed & natural outer edges from the tree. Check out "Epoxy Table" on UA-cam for examples. Getting the right piece of wood will take a _real_ lumber store, I think. That may make this the most expensive but also the most interesting option.
2. Make the tabletop barn-style with the "X" cross-pieces. Fill the spaces where the plywood backing normally is with epoxy.
Note: Cut the all the cross-pieces at an angle lengthwise. Do the same with the inner edges of the frame. Screw it together with all inner edges angled up & outward. The angled wood will naturally hold the finished epoxy in place.
3. Just cut regular planks apart wavy & freestyle. Or cut some shape or pattern in the existing tabletop as an experiment.
In all cases, fill the open spaces with (colored) epoxy & you're good to go. Turn on the lightstrip & enjoy dinner....
You have more than a place to live. You have the satisfaction that you did it yourself and help from the mad Russian looking dude. Be proud of what you accomplished. Trial and error. Failure is never trying. Everyone can do it, not many will. Great job bub.

I must admit, I felt a certain degree of 'shame' when you said that the old living room of the RV was 'pretty bad' and then you showed the picture, because that looked better than where I'm living now, and I'm inside a house. It's somewhat out of my control because I rent a room. But looking to change location in several months and hopefully I will be in a better position to at least make things look more appealing. Anyway, great video, AND, you've earned a sub because I just browsed your vids and there's so much useful content in there for things I'm considering for my future living space.
