    ➡ R2R discussion :
Kathy is saltwater fish hobbyist from St. Louis, Missouri. With over fifteen years of experience keeping saltwater fish, many of which were spent raising clownfish for her local and distant markets, Kathy more recently ventured into raising other species of marine ornamentals. Many gobies, damsels, shrimps, pipefish, and mandarins later, she successfully raised Centropyge bispinosa, also known as Coral Beauty Angelfish, from egg to adult, a species-first.
Kathy is a moderator of the Marine Breeding Initiative website, and has been an active forum participant, frequent contributor, and has earned the level of Advanced Breeder. She is a wife, mother of two adult children, bicyclist, gardener, and supervisor of a neuroscience research lab at Washington University School of Medicine.

One great thing, for me, about having these talks recorded, is that I get to correct my misstatements. It's hard to think and talk at the same time...
    * Ramon Villaverde raised large angels (not Centropyge) in a 6 liter pretzel jar, not a 6 gallon pretzel jar.
    * I recommended using polypropylene mesh for making filters, and I should have said polyester.
    * I said salinity should be around 30 parts per million, should have been 30 parts per thousand.
    * Clearly it is impossible to speak and do math at the same time...I'm not sure if the copepod nauplii numbers I was spouting are correct, but I'm sure you get the jist of it.
Once again I offer my thanks to MASNA for the invitation to speak, and I will once again encourage YOU to be the first kid on YOUR block to raise a marine ornamental that hasn't been raised before. Opportunity awaits you, and there has never been a better time.

Exactly, this is the best talk so far because those are the practice I can start doing tomorrow. The talk from science labs are great, but those are more of fantasies to me that I can only appreciate from a distance.

@@kathyleahy7314 I've been out of the hobby for quite a while, but I plan on getting back into it when I move back Stateside. Till then I'll have to live vicariously through the many reef keepers that share their tanks and projects with the world through videos like these.

i've used it in the past about 10 years ago in a mixed reef. It killed xenia and didn't affect any other SPS or LPS.

You can use Prazipro in a reef tank, as it is reef safe! Be sure to follow the dosing instructions to avoid issues.

That's the most important part. The fish do the rest. Getting it from egg to larvae to fry to juvenile to adult safely is the true challenge.

Kathy, this is a great presentation. Would you be willing to share your email address so that I could correspond with you directly? I did some marine fish propagation in my work as a public aquarist, but am now retired and want to try to get back into it. I have some questions that came up during your presentation. Thanks.

@@Steven-fz8rt Getting these fish to breed in captivity is fairly common with talented aquarists. The eggs I used came from a talented friend's home aquarium. I did not breed these fish, but I did raise them. Previous to me, no one had gotten eggs of this species to metamorphosis.
