The Easiest (No Sew) Way to Hem Curtains

  • Today I am excited to share with you the easiest (no sew) way to hem curtains! I am not sure if all curtains are like this, but the ones I purchased from IKEA (which were Ritva and Hannalill) were around 100 inches long and definitely needed to be hemmed! The method I used was so incredibly simple, this might very well be the easiest (no sew) way to hem curtains ever.
Correction - You only need to add TWO inches to allow for the hem, not four like I said in the video. My apologies! Please refer to the blog post for step by step photos, and be sure to leave a comment if you have any further questions!

We just sold our home. Before we put it up for sale I took so much inspiration from your home and used it to stage mine. Our home sold in one day on the market and we have 9 back up offers over asking price. It is a crazy market now, but we had so many people dying over the decor and style. So THANK YOU for your inspiration. I will be putting your cottage look into our new home as well. Its so inviting.

I have the same curtains and love them. Make sure you wash & dry them before cutting, they do shrink quite a bit.

Great advice. Had a house fire during the Texas Deep Freeze in February. Need to replace all the drapes and found out how expense they are now. Will use IKEA and your advice, Thanks. Hope you are feeling better and over the first trimester stomach issues. I had them too.

I love your curtains! I also love the decoy ducks. I have several from my Dad who passed away and did not know what to do with them. Did you just hang them up or did you add a hook onto them? It was difficult to see.

Perfect timing! I was just about to hem my Ikea curtains. I love your black curtain rod and clips and am thinking of switching mine from chrome to black. Since most of my light fixtures are chrome do you think black rods would look okay? I love your decor, you give me so many inspiring ideas. Thank you.

So if you cut leaving four extra inches, each fold was 2 inches?

Yeah surely that must have been a mistake in the video. If she left 4 extra inches and each fold was 1 inch as she said they would still have been 2 inches too long…

Hello Andrea! The curtains are beautiful! When you wash the curtains will the stitch witchery come off? I also love the decoys. They are going upstream! Is your husband a duck hunter? Thanks for the tip on the curtains. (✷‿✷)

sadly, that stuff does NOT hold up well in the washer. Most no sew tape/glue/whatever just does not stand up to even the most delicate of delicate washes. If I had to say, the Seam a Steam (or however its spelled) 2 works by far the very very best. Steam a Seam 2 will sometimes last a few washes (maybe 2, 3 if you are lucky). But moreover, it is the easiest to use. Your stuff will stay hemmed unless you wash it (if you use that dritz stuff, your hem will fall out faster even sans washer).
Lastly, it also gives you a really strong seam you cannot get with any other no sew method out there.
