My Mom used to put pine needles down for mulch too especially in the winter. I used to go help her plant flowers at the church we went to. Hostas are looking good.
That is a great question. In our area the heat and Sun is tough on Hostas. The ones at our Church do good as they are in Mostly shade. The ones in our home flower bed are in mostly Sun, they tend to get Sun damaged late July. I just cut them back and they will grow again and will look good the first frost. Our first frost is around November.

They are one of my favorite plants. Very hardy.
We have hostas in sun and shade and bith seem to do very well. This year though the lack if rain really hurt the size of ours compared to years past.
It has been really hot here too, but we have had lots of rain so far and things are growing like crazy. Hope y’all do get some rain.
