That's because he was a phenomenal actor. He was nothing like the character Archie in real life. My mom and I watched this show and In the Heat of the Night and Carrol had range.
I had the privilege of meeting him in person after a church service in Malibu when I was a student at Pepperdine….very nice, man of few words, smoking a cigar.
@@100016 You have to watch the whole episode. Archie was telling a story to Lionel and Lionel said something like "Oh wow my father never took the time to explain things like you do, can I call you Uncle Archie"? And then Archie's said " I think it's against the law" 😂
These played their role perfectly. So much that they became typecast. I still feel bad for Carol after his lost son..both were great actors. We need talent like this again
Zebra???? LOL When I was a little boy, I thought if a couple of different color were to marry and have children they would be Chocolate Ripple. To all the racist's out there, I love Chocolate Ripple.
It took me a while to pick up on Archie biting into a piece of bacon right after he says, "I got enough problems already without being a [Jewish slur]."

Yess they all are truly missed😢😢🤲🏾🤲🏾🖤🖤
I had forgotten that ALL of them in this scene is deceased now.

I like how Louise started to smirk once she caught on to what Archie was up to. 😁
2:53 when Archie tells George to help him move the bed. The look on Louise's face. She knew exactly what Archie was doing.
OMG, this is a prime example of two first class actors, Sherman and Carroll showing their acting skills. First rate all the way!
Oh look at this guy with his suitcase, what are you moving in too? 🤣🤣
I am so impressed that Carroll O'Connor managed to make Archie, despite his appalling views, not a complete creep. That's tremendous acting.

Yes, his acting range was great. Not all actors are capable of such varied roles.
What do you mean by "complete creep"?
I had the privilege of meeting him in person after a church service in Malibu when I was a student at Pepperdine….very nice, man of few words, smoking a cigar.
Great acting and great writing
Imagine Redd Fox, Archie, and Jefferson together🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Norman Lear would've thought about it if Sanford wasn't on NBC
Oh Yeah!😂
That would have been Fort Knox Comedy Gold! Add in Aunt Esther and Archie interacting and you really got something.
And don't forget MAUD!
50 years later. It's more popular now than ever.
This is one of the best episodes ever recorded. 😅 Incredible writers and cast.
Just so funny and wish there was more now days.
Oh my gosh...love these characters!
What a show. Nothing like that on TV now!
“He’s gonna sing a Jewish song and die.” 😂😂 Gets me every time. I just wish they included Archie’s set up to the joke.
Imagine Archie playing peace maker! 😄 What one will go through to get something, or in this case someone out of his house! 😄
“You better call Parcel Posts! Because I’ve stopped making deliveries!” 🤣🤣🤣
These really are iconic episodes. All of them together were amazing. I wouldve loved to see Archie and Edith appear on THE JEFFERSONS.
When he said in this particular episode, can I call you, uncle Archie? I swear I almost fell on the floor.
Taking a chance on striped grandchildren. 😂😂😂
Mike Evans, aka Lionel Jefferson, is SO sweet and gorgeous.
Archie may be ignorant, but he definitely knows right from wrong.
Best sitcom ever.
Leave it to Archie to say something even more stupid to Lionel than what George had already said to him.
It worked in getting him to leave tho.
I’m always amazed when I remember Sherman Hemsley
(George Jefferson) was only 36 years old when this episode was recorded.
Even crazier, they cast an actress 21 years older than him to play his wife!
He said “striped grandson.”😂😂😂
Those were the days!
Edith did you and Lionel have a man to man talk Archie yeah yeah Edith what happened Archie he made me his uncle 😆
💀
What's that mean?

Archie was very wise and crafty!
I love how Louise puts her foot down with George and takes his money away and stuffs it in her bra. How funny.
All I can say is classic
2:08 (Archie) "What a prejudice man" (Me): Uhhhh Archie?? 😕😂😂😂😂
Like Archie isn’t prejudiced himself

Oh well, tough luck
George may have been bigoted and stubborn, but he loved his son.
Archie and George were exactly the same.

Your delightful comment gave me a good chuckle 😂😂😂😂.
Tremendous scene !

Archie Bunker for President!

Jefferson’s were fighting next door!
I don't wanna hear this.

Grandchildren what? 😂
What does Louise say at 1:24? "You may...?"
"I'm willing to let her father be white."
You should of finish the scene off
I would of rather rather saw Archie Bunker and Fred Sanford that would of been much much better
In the previous episode at Lionel’s engagement party Jefferson used the N word and Archie the H word.
@ johnwhite6005 So do I. Today's shows absolutely SUCK!! 😞😓😩
Wow, a 20-year age gap it shows here
