the saltiga eats the Stella up. in South Africa we have our annual sardine migration and this year the saltiga 20k really showed it can handle those monster sharks and fish. have a look at ASFN UA-cam channel and look at some of the amazing catches that reel has landed.

No it doesn't step up toe to toe with the Stella. It blows the Stella out of the water!

@Architeuthis Dux what makes it soooooo special? I can tell you, a reel with X Ship vs not is a big difference. Bearings that support the main drive shaft, when reeling it works like a pulley system

@@miketorre16 haha x ship? What a load of marketing bs. Stella gearing doesn't even come close with its tiny main gears, o-rings from the bail support arms that pop out and overpriced tag. Dont trust me, rather read Alan Hawk reviews and you'd want to throw your Stella in the bin once you pick up a Saltiga

@Architeuthis Dux I saw a video he did. That doesn't represent all the Stella's produced. Stella's have been known to hold up and it's not marketing BS its technology, and improvements. Ain't arguing with u. I like em, and they hold up.

I may buy saltiga if they get rid off
1- no magseal oil thing , so many reels done it without this complex n still surviving.
2- worm gear osc instead of locomotive
3- better spool lip design for smoother casting
    4- less weight
So far having 3 stella n 4 twin power sw/fd can’t be happier,am tough on my gears n they hold their ground as champions. We here blessed with big GTs that reach easily over 60kg n higher, should anything goes wrong i can service my stella anytime.

I own the stella swc and the 2020 saltiga. Saltiga shits all over the stella. Stella has smoother drag but by a small margin. In every other category saltiga wins by a large margin.

You should never compare the Van Staal to the Saltiga. Not even the Stella comes close. For toughness I would say Makaira but it's heavy. The Saltiga is the perfect balance of power, innovation smoothness, reliability and durability

In my opinion, it's definitely not worth the price. You're paying for the name. There are plenty of offshore spinning reels that will handle large fish for a lot less money. Fin nor lethal, fin nor offshore, shimano spheros, okuma cedros, quantum cabo, penn battle, penn fierce, daiwa BG, Daiwa saltist,

    • @davesiu680
      @davesiu680 3 роки тому +5

actually its not only the name. the parts that they are made from are much higher quality materials and its operating design are more advance . Therefore, they are less likely to get into issue or malfunction during fishing and they tend to last a lot longer. these reels are meant for heavy fishing and serious anglers for big fish/big game. As for the "name" any fishing reel brands have their high end reels. Shimano = Stella, Daiwa = Saltiga, Penn = Penn Torque II etc. just to name a few examples. Every fishing companies have their field testers and engineers. They would test out day in day out to find out what problems could occur during fishing in different fishing condition or situation so that they could improve and design their ultimate reels for specific field anglers.
However, i am not saying you are wrong. You are completely right. There are fishing reels that would do the same job with far less money. It like cars. there are $10,000 cars that would do the same job as $100,000 cars but then in the end of the day it is all depend on the purpose of the buyer what they going to need it for.

@@davesiu680 the more bells and whistles you put into a reel, the more things can go wrong. Why do people need reels with 14 ball bearings?? These companies make insane profits. The Daiwa saltiga is a 1,000 dollar reel. I guarantee you that it only cost Daiwa 200 bucks to make. Maybe 300 tops. So they're making at least a 700 dollar profit on each one they sell. I also have a Penn 704 spinning reel. Still works fine despite being 50 years old. Never once had a problem because there's no fancy features to go wrong. Just a solid simple tank of a reel.

    • @davesiu680

@@peterkerns8343 They actually made more profit from their entry to mid category reels and rods than their high ends reels as the mass production rate are higher and cheaper to produce in huge quantities. not to mention the demands. As I mentioned the quality of the materials made and effort putting into the technology functions in this reel is a whole different level. The bearing on this reel is magseal bearings not any ordinary ball bearings. Since I owned 1 of this reel along with daiwa bg's and slammer 3 5500 which i also love. I can say the saltiga will outperform those reels in the long run without worrying about anything going to break off while doing heavy fishing for extend of time. Now I am not saying saltiga is the best reel in the market and I am confident to say there are other brand of reels that can do the job or even better than saltiga regard the price but for it's class the reel is really compact+strong+robust+lighter+look nice compare to others that can handle over 100kg fish with ease. Only way I can describe is you need to try one of any high end reels. There is a reason why the price is high and is not just a random numbers they came up with or some bs gimmick to increase the price.

You are actually off your f'n head, this is the highest quality, most powerful, most refined spinning reel EVER produced. I'll have you know also I work at a Daiwa tournament dealer and there is almost zero profit in these reels, yep, they cost a hell of a lot more to produce than you seem to have thought, and here you are saying a Finnor lethal is an equal? $1000 is not that much to the people that live and breathe fishing, to them this reel is more than worth it.

@@cozab5487 Well, I own a vintage Penn 704 and a vintage Penn 710 spinning reel. I bought them on eBay unused. These vintage American made reels will outlast any overpriced japanese reel 5 times over. Do you really need 14 ball bearings to catch fish? Do you really need 55 pounds of drag to catch fish? Do you really need mag sealed oil to catch fish? There are vintage reels out there that are 50 years old and still working fine. Do you honestly think an overpriced daiwa will last 50 years?? It won't even last 25 years. What is a 1,000 reel gonna do different?? Is it gonna catch more fish? Is it gonna catch bigger fish?
