Fireworks by Grucci sets World Record for largest firework shell

- Fireworks by Grucci just blew of the largest aerial firework shell in the history of man.
But don't take our word for it.
The entire event, which happened on New Year's Eve in the United Arab Emeriates, was documented by filmmaker Benny Migliorino of Benny Migs Photo in Patchogue.
And witnesses and other media helped confirm the feat for Guinness World Records. Video by Benny Migs Photo, Patchogue, N.Y.
Impressed that they got it in the air, but the explosion was very underwhelming compared to the Japanese shells
Couldn't agree more.
Yup
EXACTLY. Appreciate the Teams effort to register themselves in the BOOK. But it stands nowhere near YONSHAKUDAMA! period
So true
Agresif japanese Shell better
The moment it exploded im like "what?" Yonshakudama is still the best...
The Yonshakudama has a way more beautifull burst.
Totally agree
Nice, but not Yonshakudama nice.
That was weak!
Straight up
Well, that was an anticlimax... I had hoped for something beautiful and large. It just shows that yes, you can buy a Guinness World Record, but you can't buy craftsmanship handed down through generations and a sense of aesthetic and beauty as the Japanese have. They are the true masters. 😊
i agree, that was weak.
Not only that, dude is a traitor and it seemed like the sheikh just wanted to be in the GBWR for something
Exactly. Just like everything Grucci does anymore. All hype. A Japanese 12" shell is far more impressive.
Your disrespect for (arguably) the most popular fireworks company on the plant is based upon ignorance. FBG has "craftsmanship" and experience of five generations spanning over 100 years. They are world champs and have done some of the best shows known to mankind. Judging a company on one shell is like judging Michael Jordan on one shot.
@@leonardodalongislandBS analogy.
that count down with the fireworks was more impressive 🤷🏽♂️
Firework shell is an art . It's not a size competition.
Thats because they are muricans, they only understand size
Same with arabs
As it states, this is the record of the largest aerial firework shell. So in this case, it's the size that counts.
@@yourfellowhumanbeing I just meant that anyway they are making a large shell then it mey be more wonderful if they made it more uneque artistic show.
@@yourfellowhumanbeing Maybe Japanese will build 100" shell that has 3 tons of kittylitter inside and few 12" shells to make it a "real shell" Because its a size competition?
Who else read Gucci...?
Wtf lol now i readed it again and i dont see Gucci haha
LIDOR GUTA 😂😂😂
Me
Not me. The Grucci family is on Long Island where I live and are VERY well known. They have been making one of the best firework displays in the world
LIDOR GUTA 😂😂😅
No offence Grucci, but compared to all the Japanese 48" shells, that was EXTREMELY unimpressive. Not worth a world record at all !!!!!!!
djteako do a little HOMEWORK! It's all about DISTANCE. 48" @ 1/2 MILE LOOKS bigger than 60" @ 11/2 MILES.
IF ANY can do better, and NONE have, get your entry in! 😐
@Jorge not referring to size of break , which wasn't really that impressive either , but overall effect(s) Sorry , but the Japanese are without a doubt the MASTERS of creativity when it comes to fireworks and effects they create. Size isn't everything!!!! Can definitely tell its American !!!! LOL
@@jeffmoore4657 I would love to get my entry in , but unfortunately I am Canadian, where the manufacture of fireworks is illegal, and the largest shell diameter allowed is 12"
And yet talking shit about american shells lol at least we can build one !
Fireworks are ALL about the "impressiveness"...!
So.... the distance where i'm placing my own but and cameras from the mortar himself, is just ONE of the parameters which are EXPRESSING my grade of proffessionalism !!!
And they FAILED doing this considerations here MISERABLY !!!
Unimpressiv = Lausy firework ! ....period !!
yonshakudama : am i joke to you?
Brian Huffman for what it is based on the size only? It is said a 'fireworks' for a reason! People want to see a creativity in that massive ball. But its really a lame firework.
Japan: Hold my beer ... :D
@Jorge guess he means japan will answer... and yes they will.
u mean... Japan: Hold my noodle

roy Yung they still went off in the air
3 actually, but they surrendered
Dwight, this is Jim Halpert! Cut the shit okay!!!
7:21 thanks me later...
Didn't stay up very long.
Thanks
Thanks for that!
I think the spread and secondary explosions should also count towards the size, the yonshakudama is still the most impressive by far in my opinion.
I hope Japan makes a 64” this year because this effect was really disappointing for the weight and diametre. The 48” recordholder from Japan before this one was much better.
Hardly! The Grucci shell did exactly what it was supposed to.
The Japanese 48's have square breaks! All cheaper golden streamers or shell of shell! Cheap fills! Cheap thrills. Square breaks.
I wanna make a 100 inch firework.
@@jeffmoore4657 This BIGGEST firework had a fucking tigertail effects and some red ones! Cheapest of the cheap is tiger tail.. Using inserts (like all rational big shell makers do) makes the shell lighter and way better looking.. ua-cam.com/video/mSVU5aAeE6E/v-deo.html
The record is weight not diameter
That was corney 😒
I could be wrong, but I don't think it's ok to tell a middle easterner that they are an expert on explosives.... 😂
firstfromabove Not on firework we know now
Only the dollar store ones
Good one 👍
The Japanese 48 break looks so much larger.

Japan: Hold my fish
😂Lol
LMAO Imagine this as a Titanium Salute. That would rattle the Earth.
thats pgii thinking.
@@caroltenge5147 for sure something they'd do 😂
Wtf, how boring was that effect? 1ton shell with one effect lol
The willow effect was kind of sloppy cuz the comets inside were pressed which could effect in them breaking in chunks. The Japanese probably used rolled stars which are way more long burning and neater. I don't think they used shells of shells because it would be a hassle as it would take more than a week to build.
This was the un-salted and un-buttered mashed potatoes of the firework world.
The most beautiful firework, most definitely goes to the Japanese. This firework shell (which isn't the "largest firework") has just one colour, one explosion, ... Whilst the Japanese tend to produce multi-colour fireworks with more than one explosion. I am definitely not a professional, but I prefer Japanese fireworks.
The Japanese firework stan community is something I did not expect to find today
Well, like they always say, it’s not the size that counts.
The "smaller" Japanese YONSHAKUDAMA looks much more impressive, wrapping more paper around it to make it bigger does not make it look nicer... I am underwhelmed.
This is awesome. Today (Feb 10, 2020) a new record was set in Colorado with a 2800 pound shell. This is all crazy, but in a good way...
shit break. Japanese is so much better
PyroDoktorHD where's your entry?
It was made for a record not for looks
Du hast so recht mein guter!!!! XD
You mean Chinese..?
Can you guys help me to reach the 100 subs before my birthday (9 Novenber)!! If i need to sub back say it in the comments!!
i was more impressed by the countdown
I can not argue with that. At least that part took some skill.
George Plimpton talked about Grucci's having a misfire of a 48" shell down in Florida. He said only after shooting it did they consult a ballistic expert. They were told by this expert that the amount of lift charge they used would be expected to lift a shell of that weight and those dimensions 17 miles into the air.
What amateurs can do when somebody else is footing the bill!
terry wilder I’ve got his book, it’s a brilliant read.
terry wilder Lol..it's not rocket science..The lift should be 1/10 of the overall weight of the shell..how did they screw that up haha
In the book he said they DID consult Sid Bernstein from Picatinny Arsenal in the propulsion dept. before they shot the first test shell, and he told them that for the amount of lift, if the shell were to hold together (which it wouldn't), it would go up 8 miles. And then even AFTER they used his calculations, for the shot from Titusville they still decided at the last minute to add extra lift. That might've contributed to the shell's flashing thru, although the cylindric design was probably most at fault there -- too much strain on the joint from the lift for a shell that size.
A few years ago after moving here I met some people who worked at Picatinny and asked if they knew Bernstein. They were impressed that I knew such a figure, didn't realize I'd read of him in Plimpton's book. They said Bernstein had recently retired. I'd met Plimpton too at an international fireworks competition at Liberty State Park, a little over a year before he died.
@@goodmaro The PGI footed the bill for a 56" shell that never got built.
There's some pics of a Japanese water shell that surely exceeds the mass of these shells.
@@dmithsmith5880 Find the Name Gerald Bull and the Pics of some of his grains of propellant. Some were much larger than your standard softball. Most of these have a decreasing nonlinear relationship with both the weight of the projectile and length of the barrel.
What I found amusing was Plimpton telling how that misfire knocked out a nearby banks bullet proof glass intact.
Just proves good video production can make a dog taking a shit seem like a momentous event.
Looks like a rocket launch at Cape Canaveral gone wrong 😯
David Star yeah actually
i saw one of those back in jan '86

Omg 😂
Let japanese build one for world record. I'm 100% sure they will build smaller then this firework but with alotta bigger explosion then this one and beyond beautiful. That's a real serious craftsmanship.
I grew up on Long Island and the 4th of July was always special. I also lived and worked in the UAE, so to see the Grucci's there breaking the world record was really incredible. Congratulations!
That drone shot at 721 is amazing
Where's the kaboom? there was supposed to be an earth shattering kaboom!
Grucci used that new special 'silent' powder those cheap bastards.

World's biggest anticlimax and they are so proud.
I expected a lot bigger. 🎇It turned out to be twice as big as the previous record holder shell but the actual bang looked small ..
nOLke B-son distance was very far i think
in such a project the break of the shell is almost seen as an afterthought. The engineering challenge of successfully lifting a shell of such size and weight is tremendous. The amount of mortar clearance, the standoff from the bottom of the mortar, the amount of lift, not to mention the shell itself, the burst charge and all the variables it contains. None of this written down and testing would be very cost prohibitive, so much is done by intuition and past experience. You'll know the builder when you hear him exclaim "it's outta the gun".
Ragnar Benson what challenge? Lmao! THEY didn't challenge anyone not even themselves. Engineering challenge. Don't make me laugh. If I was an investor I would be pissed. Leave the big shells to the true masters. Japan for the win. Just a giant version of a consumer 1.75 shell.
sorry that went over your head, you're not used to facing such challenges I see, or you would recognize the efforts involved, or at least admire the sweat and hard work done in the pursuit of the art. That's a shitty attitude for an investor to have, in my opinion, but if you are looking for some form of performance guarantee then yes the Japanese have the longest track record of successful shells. Certainly no reason to sit at home and not bother trying. Because perfection wasn't achieved you shit on the whole idea then don't you?
Ragnar Benson the only thing that went over my head was a record breaking waste of money. As an investor I would expect a certain standards to be met. The art involves more than just propelling a massive turd into the air. However, that's a poor attitude for an investor to have by your definition. Obviously you solely see investors as money symbols. who should have no reasonable expectations. Sounds like you have a poor attitude. I don't have an appreciation for the time invested into this project. And let's face it there was no sweat and minimal work involved. In fact, it looks like they just made money off these investors and pumped out a 60in heaping pile of turd.
This was the most soulless record break I've ever seen.
is there a version of this video without music? I would absolutely love to be able to hear it.

Tje problem with extremly large shells is the large safety distance. Smaller effects are better, have smaller safety distance.
Wow, they could of done a way better job with that shell lol. It doesn't even compare to most Japanese fireworks, a 8 inch japanese shell looks way better than that hahaha.

Perhaps a very large, but one-dimensional shell might seem fabulous to people in that part of the world, but money cannot buy class. I'll take a modest Japanese shell any day over even the largest shell oil money can buy.
they should have set their record on their home soil in the first place, second of all I’ve seen smaller shells blow that one out of the water.
It was filmed from such a distance that it lost significance. What a shame!
Large shell but small explosion, I'm a bit disappointed, that ain't Grucci
that was grucci.
I think the underwhelmingness is largely due to poor camerawork
