There’s one thing they always improve on beyond any doubt, the price. And you may wonder why reels vary so much in price when the same amount of work goes into making them.
Hi Richard and Mark - i really enjoyed watching your overview of the technical aspects of the new XTD reel. I am a surf angler and really like the look of the XTD reel. The matt black finish looks beautiful. Can this XTD reel be used in the surf or what are the limitations of this reel as opposed to the XSD reel. Thank you Tony
@@FinFactor But I see the XSD model only particularly comes on the surfishing videos of the new Shimano Aero Technium reels. Is the corrosion resistant treatment applies only to the XSD model to use it in Saltwater.
@@karunakarann271 Nope. Corrosion resistance is for both XSD and XTD. The reason why XSD is reccomended for surfishing is because it has a lighter color and will reflect heat and sunlight when staying on a hot beach instead of absorb it like black color XTD does.
@@FinFactor Just received two black model XTD s today - what stunning looking reels and feels so smooth when winding. I've also noticed few other nice features and it feels more solid than other reels i have used so i expect for medium to heavy surfcasting will be really good. Now i cannot wait to get to the beach :) Must try to figure out the line capacity with spacers for different diameter Mono lines. No explanation in reel documents..
I am waiting for the new models 16000 XTE/XSE, 18000 XTF/XSF and 20000 XTG/XSG to appear to mount them on the tow truck. I hope they appear soon, because they seem better than the original troller of the car.
I have the 14000 power areos and for such a high end reel the line wrap at back of spool is poor and so is the gaurd has it been improved on or still same design. More importantly are you going to design a gaurd that works.
Agreed. My only beef with Shimano reels, its worse on the spod reel when using braid. The line seems to sit in the gaps on the dpool seat, then get dragged under when you turn the handle. Sorry Shimano, very bad spool design.
"Everything has changend" except for the the handle knop. My question why not bring back the handle of the 12000 XTB Mgs they run smooth and look good on a reel in this pricecategory . In this pricesegment i think their must be a diffrence between an Ultegra handle knop and a Technium handle knop . I know its a small detail but, ever wonderd why everybody changes the handles for a better ballbearinged one? Shimano can do better than this normaly...
Can I have a question? You know see the assemble structure and parts(module). There are new module of idle screw and shaft. What is the function or distinct.
@@darren1934 if i could send the picture of how badly these corrode, you would see. I love shimano reels and a lot of people don’t believe me and thats up to them, but trust me they corrode bad
What can we expect more from Shimano? Probably next year they will release a chassis as holder for these cranes, which will replace the rod. That's how much Shimano insists on these Big Pit 14000, 12000, 10000 range, until the spool will be measured in inches, like car rims. It is fished in the oceans and on many other waters for extremely large fish, with spinning reels of 4000 and 5000, without the need for these disgusting cranes. The biggest catfish, over 50, 60, 70 kg are fished with reels of 4000 and 5000, and these fish are much stronger and more aggressive in the drill than carp, plus their weight is 2 times even 3 times greater and it can be brought ashore without any problem. Why for a Carp that weighs no more than 30 kg and that is very rarely found and not everywhere, we would need such cranes, immensely large, quite heavy and very uncomfortable, when these characteristics of these reels can be introduced in the Medium reels of 5500, more compact, lighter and more comfortable and with a much better balance in the assembly rod + reel. The amount of fishing line is not so important once even an extremely cast does not exceed the load capacity of the a Medium reel like 5500 of 300m - 0,35. What fisherman can cast more than 300m, no matter what kind of fisherman he is, to we be honest. But regarding technologies, features and performance, they are excellent. If these features were also implemented in the Medium 5500 reels, especially with the Baitrunner, then you would really have a choice. But as Shimano does not focus on the middle range at all, other manufacturers such as Daiwa and the others take advantage of this opportunity and still remain the top favorites of fishermen.
Why is this new reel so heavy 510 gr for a Magnesium reel of course there is a larger spool but then not save on weight by using cheaper material this is a missed opportunity For comparison, a Daiwa Basiair that has been on the market for years and is also a top model reel weighs only 420 grams The weight of the reel is also important for casting long distances
i got 2 of these. holy monkey crap.they are crazy good an ive got most reels.but msg xtd are a 10000 times better then any reel out there.puke at the price.
Folding handle is no good, in whatever quality of manufacturing. Because in time that joint loosens, and anyway, if one makes 4 turns in order to be able to fold it, it may as well make 3 more to completely remove it, if it`s one piece, as it should always be. One piece screw in handle.
Absolutely stunning. I’m salivating already! Had the original technium and it blew me away ….this beauty raises the bar exponentially!

I'll have some eventually dream reels.
The reel looks amazing. I have a technical question: If this reel has so much performance, why most people use Daiwa on casting competitions?
That’s nice! How about between bullseye XT(old version) and mgs XTB.Which one strong?(vs big fish catch)
I just purchased 2 of these, even though I fish for carp I got the Liquid Metal. Lovely reels but 1 letdown, the drag is not quick drag.
When are their out in stores and how much

Hello! Both models (XTD and XSD) are exactly the same, and you can use either for surf fishing! The only differences are cosmetic.

Very well done review, but sadly you miss the bit out on how badly they corrode after a couple of years.
Magnesium and reels shouldnt be put together
didnt he say its sealed so NO water can get in. no corrosion
