- Michael Solovyev. Old Houses in Nashik/Nasik, State of Maharashtra, India. From the photo made by Sudhakar Sonawane. @DANIELSMITHArtistColor watercolor paints on Saunders Waterford Rough paper, 22x15 inches.
Here is what Sudhakar told me about the photo:
"This photo is from Nashik, Maharashtra state, India. It is a pretty old city having mythological, historical, social and cultural importance. The city is situated on the banks of Godavari river, making it one of the holiest places for Hindus all over the world. In its rich mythology, Lord Rama, the king of Ayodhya, made Nashik his abode during his 14 years in exile. Nashik is preserving its rich past along with modern industries. It's called the "Wine Capital of India", as half of India's vineyards and wineries are located here. In the midst of a very crowded area of the old city, namely Somwar Peth of old Nashik, stands this old house."

Thank you for painting a cityscape from India. That you painted directly, without a sketch, is in itself, amazing. Beautifully done.
Thank you very much, Siddharth!
Your work is fascinating! What determines when you wet your paper on both sides and when you don’t?
Thank you Carolyne! If I'm planning to paint wet on wet I put the water on the both sides. If I'm planning to use a dry brush technique I put water just on the back, in that case paper drain slowly and I can leave some white clear spots on the front side..
Sir can you please tell me the restoration process of any water color painting?
Hi, have no idea. We need to ask someone who doing that...
