The "You hear a strange sound coming from afar" message means that you can teleport to a free room. You just use the teleport stone and it had a yellow arrow pointing where to go. You missed it in the first level. Usually the loot is pretty good.

I love this game, but it solidified for me the trope I can't stand about this genre, and that's the stack of levels that's the same every time. Dead cells had branching paths, and that mixed it up a little, but these games need to get away from literally the same path every single time. Everything else is random, so "a good run" is bullshit, in my humble opinion.
But clearly the buying power disagrees.
I just don't like repetitive shit.
On the other hand, this Roguelike kept me sane during lock down. This was a fantastic game. Is a fantastic game. And the stacking, that I believe is so critical to roguelikes, is so solid. Guns multiplying, fantastic effects, fantastic synergy. It's dope as fuck.
I know, that's my criticism of this genre as well. More effort in design in general, especially the levels

I'm not big on side scroller games, but I downloaded the demo based in this video, and actually enjoyed the demo enough that I'm seriously considering adding to my collection. Thanks for highlighting.

Dude, me too! I'm SO surprised at how much better this looks now! I was really confused for a minute; I had to actually look it up and make sure that this did indeed use to suck, I thought maybe I was thinking of a different roguelite cause it's so night and day from how it was.

This is a beautiful and fun "Where the !@#$ is my character" game. If the eggs don't get you to lose track of the character, the gun effects will.
This is probably the first game of this type that actually looks worth playing for me. Good find

Love this type of review/gameplay setup, already played the game a bunch and knows whats going on, instantly says "what you need to know here is (blank) the game plays like (blank) now watch me play" Right into it and not confusing at all or trying to be anything other than a game review.
This game has such a solid presence, the art style and game mechanics create an experience of its own.
I noticed how @spattercamgaming mentioned Northerlion. Pretty cool. I work from home often. Usually when I don't want to get angry from watching politics, I watch Splattercat, Northerlion, Raptor, and Retromation. Usually between those four, there is no shortage of content.

i loved this game - when i saw you playing it again.. i immediately jumped into the office on the big screen to watch it. its one of my favorite games ever. unfortunately i cant play it myself

The first laser gun you had dealt melee damage and your chicken mask increased your melee damage forbevery egg
Oh, I see that they've changed some things since I last played it. I see some new items. Also you have to choose reward after beating boss, it wasn't the case in the past when everything they dropped was up for grabs. And I take it that there are twice as much bosses now, at least it looks like that in a character selection screen. Well, I guess no harm in diving back into it then.

If you step on the worms they drop money. Some of the weapons have tracking wich can be great further in. There are some nice creative combos in this game. Get the buttler/tuxedo pet guy and have him die from damage and he will stop taking your coins and will drop a ton in return.

Didnt see you mention it, but sometimes when enemies die they drop a worm. Walking on the worm to kill it gives a coin.

THIS GAME IS AMAZING
when you see the umbrella box right at the start with the fist gun pick up, you open a secret room you have to use the teleport to get to. you can see it on your mini map. also the smaller flyers drop worms when killed, if you step on them they give you coins.
It's the mega Man gun charging noise.
Certainly another great game for the Steam Deck. 🥰

Since this video was released, i'm fairly certain they fixed the "Silver Moon Penetrates...." gameplay. lol Now it only partially penetrates at certain angles.

I'm quiet late to this party, but screw it. I'm just now (literally today) getting into this game. It's absolutely incredible and very addictive. I've tried getting into Enter The Gungeon and some other games like it, but Neon Abyss is scratching the itch.
It's nice to see a video, where you're not trying to learn the game while completely disregarding the tutorial or missing the obvious mechanics and where you behave semi-competently, for once :D
I really liked the showcase but tbh I didn't understand, why you stopped midway through, especially after getting the double lasers. Wouldn't have hurt to upload the whole run for this particular game

Played this game like 2 years ago, fun for a while but the game is horribly balanced like you said, enemies become bullet sponges while the player has screen filling weapons that make it very hard to play. I stopped playing the game because after a while it's just a grind to get new upgrades or room even at a point where you've basically already seen everything.

Yes, buy it I already its a really complex funny w references game, challenging too if you get far enough or into handicaping yourself, played it since 2020 and its almost final release, watch out for the Epic Games one, it isn patched well.
Everything is backwards in the game weapons and items and game rooms you don't like you find yourself eventually using them out of desperation to keep the run going.

When you get the dlc it unlocks a branch of all characters. Everyone has 2 skins now that have different abilities.

Just a small bit of advice for Neon Abyss owners.
Keep your eyes peeled for the dlc releases.
They're free for the first few days after release if you already own the game.
NA is a fun little game, but the only reason I'm not buying it (Sailed the high seas for it) is the completely bizarre way of unlocking bosses/stages - you have to be incredibly lucky to unlock the final set of bosses. The game isn't that difficult, but it requires you to juggle the order/chaos meter so you unlock the secret room at just the right stage in order to fight the correct boss instead of the regular one.
Fuck that.
I don't remember how I learned about this game but I played the free demo way back when and bought it when it came out, and it is a fun game. It has solid gameplay, great pixel art and the soundtrack is even better now with them replacing the tracks with newer ones (they are less repetitious). The only issue is too many "joke" guns.

This is the first game I have purchased thanks to watching your videos that I didn't actually really enjoy.
It's just not very challenging and it gets repetitive after a while.
"Maybe something cool will happen next room" is what kept me going for way too long.
This isn't a criticism of you. I own so many great games thanks to you. Keep doing your thing.

Awesome game, had +50hours on it, but i had to drop it due tue too many bugs!! at the 4 consecutive time i got a black screen, on the 5 or 6 map, i uninstalled it, and never looked back... so frustrating, cause i loved the game so mutch!!
