For the past two years I had it rough... this is why I am putting family first and going back home surprising my whole family for my birthday celebration with this last minute travel plan. I wasn't feeling good and I decided to book a flight from California to Spain to spend time with them. Since I lost my dad is my number one priority is spending quality time with my loved ones. Hello guys! Did you miss me? I took some time away from the cameras to heal. There is nothing like the love you get from your loved ones, can you agree? Have you ever surprised anyone like this? Are you excited to see where I grew up? Oh by the way did you see that big octopus 🐙? That’s was my favorite part of the video 😝
Happy (belated, April?) Birthday Lidia! You are clearly missed wherever you are not and your family just lit up with excitement. It's very beautiful where you grew up and even more so with your presence. I can't get over how great the beach is and the water, even with the need to watch out for octopi. (I never would have guessed that was the beach surprise.)

There's a real lack of videos about Spain, from Spaniards - in English. It would so fun to see you do a series travelling around Spain - showing the diversity of the country, from Santander to Seville!

There is a show called Spain….On the Road Again. It aired on PBS back in 2008. It starred Claudia Bassols, Chef Mario Batali, cookbook author Mark Bittman, and Gweneth Paltrow. Basically the four of them drove around Spain in a convertible Mercedes, stayed at luxury hotels, drank top shelf liquor, and ate very well. Currently, I think the only way to watch the entire series is to see it on DVD. Though some episodes are on UA-cam.
I love where you grew up and loved seeing the octopus giving you signs from your father. Thanks for reminding us to respect. My mom was also a housekeeper and worked hard. I love your family dogs and can see the love. Visiting Spain is a dream of mine.

Love that you surprised your mom (and brother 🙂). Good to go home and spend time with family at your roots, lovely beach, and my wife loves octopus', so that was a GREAT clip and I am glad you had a waterproof camera for shots in the water. Thank you for taking us along.

I’m from Hawai’i, I definitely relate to the issues of the negative affects of tourism. In our case it’s American tourists who are SO destructive, entitled and disrespectful to our islands and people. Interestingly, the Japanese tourists we get are awesome, so respectful and kind and friendly, so I know it’s possible to be a good tourist if you’re from a society that teaches and values that… I wish Americans would get the memo.
Yeah when I visited Hawaii I totally felt the same… islands and tourists are a pain we have to deal with! And yes that octopus 🐙 was being sneaky 🤣

Oh man what a beautiful island! Sad most places like that the economy is run on tourism! Unfortunately some tourists are so disrespectful to the locals and there cultural! Hopefully you can do more videos on your home land I really enjoyed this video thank you for sharing your story.

Hey Lidia. I took to heart what you said about your small island town that you grew up in suffering from what happens in MANY American tourist towns: they eventually become overrun with tourists!! Don't misunderstand, as tourism is the life blood for most of these tourist towns, but I know EXACTLY what you mean about how things were simpler, more carefree, with a feeling that the island catered to the locals more so than to tourists. But inevitably that trend reverses itself, and makes it more difficult for locals to live where they grew up.
Yes, everything has gotten worse since everyone is tagging every spot on social media. It’s a disgrace that they allow people on the internet to blast secret gems when they are just disrespectful tourists wanting some attention online
Yep. It sounds like we both experienced the more natural and unrushed way of life growing up. Your island town obviously sounded (and looked) cool. I grew up on a 90-acre farm in the Lakes Region of southern Maine, and while we definitely were not rich, we LIVED richly :)
Now some of the locals near where I grew up are worried about that beautiful country will become just overcrowded suburbs one day. I sure hope not. But like that octopus you came across with your dog, there are still plenty of good happenings to be had in life, so keep your head up, chica. Love your spirit :)
