    What I learned so far in my max difficulty run:
    - You can bring ammo and fuel (and foundation :((( ) to the planet manually in several runs and put it in boxes without triggering hives (especially good for first conquests)
    - Having best possible ammo for icarus use is very beneficial for your survival. Especially high explosive shells and antimatter capsule later.
    - In early game it's a good idea to fill all the spaces from your landing base to dark fog bases with wind turbines - you get more energy and redundant power connections.
    - More smaller blueprints better then one for a big base. Like one for energy generation, one for laser turrets, one with implosion cannon for perimeter defense, one for rockets. Sometimes it's just impossible to find enough space to establish a pretty foothold.
    - Several signal towers for one repair base, not other way around. It's spreads damage better and also better for power use
    - Losing 200 signal towers to clear one planet is actually pretty cheap and is completely acceptable result
    - After starter system you need to clear all new ones in one go. Unless you really want a challenge of)))
    - Even if you destroy all hives in a solar system those can come back! Yesterday I was 30 ly away when suddenly one of the planet in my starter system got trashed :(

    • @doctort2853
      @doctort2853 11 місяців тому +8

      Yeah you gotta manually and periodically check if any clear system got dark fog infestation again. And head back to take out the seed before it grows up. You can actually see the seeds traveling at sub-light speed across systems and you can hunt them down before they come to your system if you can warp close by enough. They are defenseless

      All solid advice. On my 3k run I just blitzed a 10- lvl 30 base plant using 48 launchers with T2 rockets and laser defense for foothold only about 1/2 the yellow science done.
      I used a 4BAB, 1 tower setup with the BABs preset to max charge power. lost less than 50 towers and left them placed until blitz was over to create perimeters. Only removed hive relays with thermals once all cores were gone. Otherwise you can have new ones pop up when the relay is redeployed by the hive.

    For the forward signal tower/battle stations setup. I usually do a blue print with 3 signal tower and 4 stations. The 3 signal tower with the middle one stick out just little bit (a few space) and the two others on the side. This way 3 tower will attract different attacker from different angle, make it a lot easy to repair instead 10 millions things all attacking just one signal tower and got instantly destroyed before the repair drones can reach it.

  • @xavierburval4128
    @xavierburval4128 11 місяців тому +1

    Dunno if you realized this but it might save you some signal towers and battlefield bases.
    Obviously the battlefield analysis base is very quick at repairs, especially if all 12 of its drones are focusing one building. As you demonstrated with your “creep” tactic, this allows them to easily out-repair a massive swarm of dark fog units. The problem is that once the drones are done repairing, they immediately head back to their respective bases even if the building is still under attack. I’m quite certain this is what causes your signal towers to take some damage, get healed to full, and then die almost instantly. I see two ways to circumvent this. The easiest way is to just try and predict the sudden burst, increasing the likelihood that you can remove it in time. The second (and very not-tested) way is to try and balance the damage of the dark fog with the repair speed of the battlefield bases. Hypothetically, it is possible to achieve a perfect equilibrium where the bots repair the signal tower at the exact same rate that the dark fog destroys it, effectively making it immortal. Obviously, it’s probably too difficult to achieve with changing swarm sizes and whatnot, but I do think removing some of the bases could actually extend the lifetime of the towers. Just a suggestion though, maybe you have a different method for this.

  • @JohnMeinel
    @JohnMeinel 11 місяців тому +2

    Kudos on the excellent work pushing everything back.
    On your expanded missile turrets, you can see that the sides when you don't have a battle base and signal tower the missile turrets tend to die. I think there are 2 factors, one is that the signal tower takes the aggro instead of the turrets, but also the range that your turrets engage the enemies away from your base is quite a bit farther (you "see" the enemies further away). So I think it is worth leaving a double BAB and signal tower on your expanded corners.
    I don't know if you have enough titanium to build some of the transport drones and PLS. If you do, then you could set up little forward bases to get the missile turrets closer to the enemies, rather than firing from across the world. You *could* hand feed a PLS/ILS 1000 missiles from the other side of the world more efficiently than transport drones, so I think even without drones a PLS with 60 missile turrets being fed directly off of it you can place in the same quadrant as the bases you are attacking would be very worthwhile.

  • @DarkGamer_725
    @DarkGamer_725 11 місяців тому +1

    Everytime you do an attack to a base, the entire planet gets angry instantly just because the energy you consume (that gets produced because of that) with the turrets. So as far as i can see, the best strategy is attack one base, and wait some time so all the attacks and turrets relax again to the baseline power, then attack the next base.
    Also for the future, in the blueprint you make with one signal tower and two repair stations, you should add some power connections so if one signal tower breaks, the power line is still standing.

  • @Whitewingdevil
    @Whitewingdevil 11 місяців тому +1

    My only note about the offense would be that having your attacker units exposed to attack themselves seems a little wasteful, personally I'd have them behind the base defences like your original plan, just with more rockets.
    That being said, if it works it works.

  • @Odannyboy23
    @Odannyboy23 11 місяців тому +2

    I think the tower creep still worked pretty well. An idea would be to establish two forward operating bases at the same time to minimize the damage to the second built well into the attack.
    For someone who isn’t Nilaus, if they aren’t quick to fix problems mid-siege, they would likely lose the second base quickly.

  • @Rms2015
    @Rms2015 11 місяців тому

    Nilaus, i know you’ve been getting a lot of “why don’t you just…”, but I have found that if you stand right next to a signal tower that’s taking a lot of fire and jump, it puts your personal shield in the way of the incoming projectiles and can save the tower. Obviously, that will quickly drain your shields, but it will significantly extend the life of the tower and so long as there is a tower up nearby and you are not personally attacking DF base structures, you will not be targeted. I’m only on difficulty 6, so ymmv, but I’ve also found that placing a handful of power towers next to the signal tower can let you pour up to 10MW into your personal shield recharge, long before you can achieve that on fuel power.

    It seems that the priority of the attack affects the range from which missiles are fired at the relay station. I had the relay attack set to maximum priority and the missile salvo started when the signal tower was just in line of sight with the relay. Without a relay, the hive cannot constantly spawn units when you are near it, so it becomes easier to destroy the base. There is also a supernova, it eats up ammunition quickly, but also does a lot of damage.

    Ah interesting ideas about using the missiles to attack the relays from the ground, have to see if you can set up to defend (with your cannons and "repairers") and then set missiles up to only shoot at relays, then when you drop a signal tower a large mass of missiles might insta-kill the relay... as long as the revenge fleet hits your main and shielded planet. Interesting experiment.

    A good trick to retreat effectively is to use aoe delete instead of manual, one by one. This way you leave nothing behind and can do it quickly if you've overextended.
    Every single fog unit calculates distance to the closest signal tower separately, so you can split them apart by placing flanking towers; works well when you drag the defenders to the sides and make a push with your main turret creep in the middle.
    It's actually enough to have one BAB to defend one signal tower for the healing to outpace the enemy dps; remember, the more power draw you have, the more frantically the defending and attacking fog units are rebuilt. So forget about ILS, PLS, or lazer turrets, try to extend your power coverage with power poles instead of signal towers, and lean more heavily into gauss turrets (though they do fall off eventually when hives level up, they are excellent at making a beachhead when you first land on an infested planet).

And a BAB in the middle between the wespons, never had any losses until I decided to missile thrm into crap.

    But if you did, it’s much easier to clear and defend the planets and then research Corvettes.
    Then, in addition to building and powering through fortress, command the Corvettes to attack the Relay Stations. Removing the Relay Stations will depower the bases and make it easy to clean them up with the same strategy.

      Note that if you are early and don't actually have the thermal power stations made, just placing a blueprint (so a white object), will still cause them to disconnect and leave.

      Laser turrets are bad for offense. Range too short. They are good for farming as they only consume power

    I just came back to the game a couple days ago so new to dark fog. Is it possible to actually beat dark fog or do you just have to suffer its annoying reappearances throughout the entire game? I mean I wipe them off every planet in a system, then blow up their space station, a few hours later they are back. Like WTF

  • @doougle

    I'm curious to see if you farm them or wipe them out.

    You should invest in your personal load out. Just put a bunch of missiles into your mech, just in case. And a few swarms of attack drones.
    edit: Ah, nevermind.

    Your play is way dif then mine. Idk if cuz of an update but, I used this seed and already had 5 bases on my starting base (started with 3 and 2 more landed)
    Then, when trying to liberate other planets, they hit 100 units in like three waves. Im watching this and it ain't even at 200??? They hit 200 so quick for me bruh it ain't funny.

    • @Nilaus
      @Nilaus  11 місяців тому +1

      I started attacking immediately as I landed. The waves build up from 20 -> 180. Only by the end did they reach 180, but I had taken out most at that time.

      @@Nilaus Oh it stops at 180. Huh, thought it does back to back 100's after 180. I started over again and it stayed with three planet bases. hehehe much better. I've mistyped the seed.
