Ricky is an incredibly talented - and underrated - musician (not just a producer!). On Kim's Greatest Hits tour (2023), his guitar playing blew me away, and I find it very touching that he and his sister have worked together all their lives :)

Kim Wilde's debut is the second album I ever bought with my own money and I still think it sounds great. Ricky obviously had a gift for great production/musicianship/songwriting right off the bat! Really enjoyed this interview.

Ricky Wilde, probably the most underrated record PRODUCER in the UK. And one of the finest songwriters too. Not to mention all of his other skills and talents. What a really interesting interview. So glad Ricky mentioned the incredible Gary Numan.

Mick Karn put out a single called Sensitive which I played to death and I'm sure Ricky's name is in the credits.

That was a very interesting interview. Particularly enjoyed hearing the story behind the Wasp synthesizer as a friend of mine leant me one in 1979 and it looked and sounded amazing.
I remember living in Germany during the early 70s and hearing one of Ricky's earlier upbeat singles on Radio Luxembourg and mistaking it at first for a Suzie Quattro record. Since he and I were of similar age it part inspired me to shelve the classical side of music, grades etc. and try and get going in the music industry.

OK Chris, you've got it right about Ricky being one of the most important men in music, but can we get a clue and stop rehashing old stats. Kim and him have had "20 hits" & "10 million albums sold". Well, what a wow! Stats that just don't move. Stats that have stayed the same for a million years now. When we keep hearing how everyone else is selling this that and the other a million times a minute, what-EVER! Where do these stats come from? What countries are left OUT of it? Has Kim NEVER sold a record since whenever these stats are supposedly taken? In any normal world, she'd be THE biggest selling artist EVER (as would he with the songwriting/mixing/producing/playing etc.) but never mind about that. Umm, Chris, music hasn't been terrible a few years ago, it's been TERRIBLE ever since the 80s ended! Ricky, wish you'd be asked about the "Catch" songs and the vast majority of the stuff you both made and demos that you never compliment, it's always about this 'Kids' song like nothing else matters! I sometimes feel you'd only have ever liked it if 'Kids In America' alone was on EVERY album 10x over! Exasperating. And to NEVER be able to avoid it at a concert, yet tonnes of other things are never played!
It's high 'time' Rick was interviewed himself over his career, and thank God for this, but just wish he and his sister would revisit and revamp their shows to embody all the lovely things that have made up their excellent careers, most of these songs, if ever done, never have been since they were put on record!

Are you SERIOUSLY pretending, Ricky, that the Hits tour is going to include things you've "never done" since recorded, cos I noticed enough singles not on the album anyway. DANCING IN DARK, HOUSE OF SALOME, SHE HASN'T GOT TIME FOR YOU, IF THERE WAS LOVE, CAN YOU HEAR IT, SAY YOU REALLY WANT ME, NEVER FELT SO ALIVE, EGO, SHANGRI-LA etc? Are we in the UK EVER going to really get anything (and for more than one show) that truly encapsulates your duel careers? Beyond the same old 6 songs you always do, and the tonnes of covers? I so want to go, but I fear that though this is a most comprehensive singles collection yet out soon (despite all the horrible edits over proper album ones), most of this will NEVER be performed. You and Kim really don't like most of your songs do you? CATCH in particular is an album DYING to be revisited! All this silliness Kim has about 'Dancing In The Dark' when its an awesome track way better than many things she compliments. Kim loves everything by everyone else, as if every song ever made was brill, apart from her own stuff, where she's so opposite. This Lee person, he's bringing up a lot of Kim songs, huh. Trust me, I do the same! I LOVE IT ALL and sing it always. Hell, I've sung every Kim song a million more times than she ever has! Everyone needs to get together and do a massive message to you to get a fully comprehensive live set going. It's a recurring tragedy of life that now you and Kim love live shows, the music is never really used to showcase it as only 10% of your stuff is ever touched-the same ones. Other artists so don't don't do this. Do you REALLY dislike so many of your songs? When you've both the best catalogue EVER?!
But lovely to know you mention a new album you and Kim will do, as we all feared it likely "Here Come The Aliens" was the last and the Hits Tour was the swansong. Here, how about doing 'Rain On' for the first 'time' live, and how you've never done the awesome 'Dream Sequence.' live! CATCH is the most amazing album ever made, who else can do songs like HOUSE OF SALOME, SHOOT TO DISABLE, CAN YOU HEAR IT, BACK STREET JOE & DREAM SEQUENCE and put them on an album. Just cos something sells over something else or is ignored, DOESN'T mean it's right. Loads of things sell that are rubbish! If you find Lee amazing, trust me I'd bring up random tracks you've done to scorch your eyeballs, Rick. I just don't know why it's so hard to say these things and to play them live anyway. Don't real fans like almost everything. And surely a real love of music must mean you want variety and you and Kim have that more than anyone else spread over 4 amazing decades, yet no live show since the 90s really EVER hints at this. Acres and acres of songs just thrown on the scrap heap. Dispiriting. Oh and just one show without 'Kids' or at LEAST without it ALWAYS being the LAST ONE PLAYED like it's gold dust against horse manure! That'd be my Shangri-La-after 'Shangri-La''s played of course. And I heard Kim loves 'Stay Awhile'-well back in 1983! So WHY not insist on it a single or release it NOW and why NEVER do it. Wasting fast songs that don't fit 'chill out' sections of live shows when you've both plenty of ballads to fill them with. And then there's "Another Step" album, an album that showcased Kim's writing in full before "Close" yet the same 2 singles are only EVER done from it and NTOHING ELSE! I really can't understand how a love for music from both you and Kim culminates fully into you both loving everything every artist have ever done yet when it comes to your own fabulous back catalogue, it's the complete opposite. Only the extreme minimalist's version on every set will do. Just makes me feel you and Kim make music by accident or you do it cos you love it but once it's gone and out there, it's best forgotten, or that for ever 50 songs you do, only 1 can ever be enjoyed so much you'll keep returning to it. I'd just LOVE to give you a setlist and ensure it changes frequently, but even then, if you gigged every day from now on and doing these live shows chock full of stuff they ALWAYS should have, you'd still have not enough 'time' to cover everything more than twice. Oh and 'Dancing In The Dark' is fabulous, as is the video (which is also much better than some other videos) and still gobsmacked by Kim calling it "not a good song" or "not happy wasting time promoting it" when it's superior to many love stuff she did in the 90s, the soul stuff she likes and covers from all sorts of people, some of them not worthy at all, and bigging up all sorts of boybands, girl bands and other dreadful things from the following decades (even a few in the 80s). If she never recorded it, she'd like it surely! Oh and its promotion must have been the quickest hell ever as come March 1984, she's never "had" ro sing it again. And never will, clearly! If only that were true of 'Kids', talk about over-familiarity breathing utter contempt! It's the only Kim song I could do with peace from, and why you both want to keep drawing so much attention to it, is the biggest mystery you both have EVER come up with. Oh that and continually disregarding one of the best records in the world-CATCH AS CATCH CAN-and you made it! And who makes a song of such quality as SAIL ON & RAIN ON and vaults it away forever? And where's THAT'S THE MOOD I'M IN-Kim's fave song of 1986 yet never materialised except in a few interviews back then? What about other demos and when are all her other albums getting the deluxe treatment? So much to bring up, you'll wish WORDS FELL DOWN!!
