    Just watched your video for First Strike and honestly, need to own that film. Jackie was at his best in the 80s/90s before Hollywood came along. Looking fwd to watching this video now...

    Jackie Chan's Birthday is April 7, 1954. Sorry I didn't comment this to you in time for a Birthday movie. Every year I pay tribute to my favorite actors by watching at least one of their movies. This year I watched Dragon Fist and Fearless Hyena.

      Oh, I watched a Jackie movie on his birthday. We're both Aries' 😉. Not that I think that means anything, haha! I've not seen Dragon Fist or Fearless Hyena, but I did watch Dragon Lord for the first time... not bad at all!

    Epic collection so far! Oddly enough, I began ‘filling in the gaps’ in my Jackie Chan collection just a few months back. 88 Films have been releasing tons of his films with remastered transfers/new OCN scans, terrific artwork, special features galore, multiple cuts, etc. Too bad Criterion didn’t include the third Police Story (Supercop), IMHO the best one. Thought I was well on my way to a fairly complete collection... boy was I wrong - hardly own any of the ones you showed here. Hopefully Part 2 will be a different story. Hopefully...
    Love “Who Am I?,” “Police Story: Lockdown” (“New Police Story” is quite good/gritty, as well), “Mr. Nice Guy,” “Miracles,” and enjoy titles like “The Medallion,” “The Accidental Spy,” “The Tuxedo” and more.

      Thank you! I've been seeing all the 88 Films releases, and me not have 'nuff moneyz fer all dat. I doubt I'll run into those at the pawn shops, haha, so I'll have to start picking them up slowly but surely. It's good to hear they're doing good work, though. The few releases I do have by them are great, so I'd expect nothing less. It sounds like you and I align in our love for The Chan-Man. I'm glad hear the two newer Police Story movies are good--I really need to watch those soon. Anyway, thanks, my friend, for stopping by! Part 2 will be out on Friday, and I'm sure you'll have quite a few of the blu-rays (the more known films in the Jackie collection.)

    • @mjolnir426
      @mjolnir426 4 роки тому +1

      theboredcyborg I hear you when it comes to, erm, “moneyz.” 88 Films have ‘only’ released around seven Jackie Blu-ray titles thus far, so it’s doable. More Jackie Chan BDs in pawn shops would be awesome, though! Granted, The Tuxedo and The Medallion are both rated 2/5 on Letterboxd, but I still have fun watching ‘em. It’s been a long time since I saw Lockdown, New Police Story was a recent rewatch - I think you’ll like it (just be ready for a slightly dour tone). Cheers for the kind words, and we’ll see in the next video, according to ol’ Letterboxd I have only seen 20% of Jackie’s films, so... yikes.

    • @theboredcyborg
      @theboredcyborg  3 роки тому

      Favorite from the '80s? Oof, that's tough, but I'd have to go with Police Story 1 & 2 (I'm cheating). Close second would be Wheels on Meals, then I'd pick the Project A films and Operation Condor! Too many to choose!

    Just watched Spiritual Kung Fu a few weeks ago. Yes, there are ghosts but I'd hardly call them "horror elements." They're definitely more comic relief. It's an oddball of a movie but still has some good action scenes. Hope you enjoy it. Looking forward to pt. 2.

    • @theboredcyborg

      That's a shame. I figured the horror elements were light, oh well. I was hoping for Spooky Encounters level stuff, lol. I'll check it out at some point, for sure!

      Thanks for the info! I knew Knights of Shadow was coming out soon, but I had no idea it was out already! Vanguard is one I didn't know about--I somehow missed seeing that it was coming out. This one has potential since Stanley Tong is back working with the Jack! Here's hoping we get a couple solid modern Jackie films!

    I've never actually seen any Jackie Chan movies, I may be wrong but the movies including him reminds me a lot of James Bond 007, when there's a bunch of different action movies with the same character protagonist? Just Chan Is all about kung fu and stuff? Idk haha

    • @theboredcyborg
      @theboredcyborg  4 роки тому +1

      It's never too late to start watching Jackie Chan movies! I really dig your observation/connection regarding James Bond and Jackie Chan. Jackie essentially plays the same role in the majority of his films, not unlike another one of my favorite actors, Arnold Schwarzenegger. And, yes, Jackie is ALL about kung fu and stuff... like kicking bad guys in the face. A few great films to start with would be Police Story, Supercop, or Legend of the Drunken Master. That'll really show you what this man was capable of in his prime. Those are amongst the greatest action flicks ever made! Thanks for watching, my friend!

    You need to get "wheels on meals"especially with the original 1980s international english dub soundtrack. Love it. I believe the uk bluray has that dub. I do have a grey market dvd of that dub from "banzai" non anamorphic. Original score is fine but that vintage english dub rescore is awesomely memorable 80s. And the only way i watch it.

    Jackie Chan movies... you know, I think this guy is a true master, his action and stunt work is unparalleled, and yet... I don't like his movies. I wanted to love his stuff, but whenever I tried, the outcome was the same: I didn't like it. Drunken Master, Armor of God, Rumble in the Bronx... I think it's the humor. I don't get it. I appreciate the hard work they put in a 10 minute fight around a pinball machine, but that's too much for my taste. Go in, shoot the bad guys, say something cool and leave is my kind of action films. He also made some very terrible movies, like Bleeding Steel, which is... yeah, terrible in every way, and I actually saw Lockdown. The trailer seemed to be gritty and cool, but the movie itself wasn't. But there is ONE movie with him I love. It wasn't on your list yet, so I assume it will be mentioned in part 2, and therefor I will wait for that before telling you which one I have in mind. But you might guess it already...

    • @theboredcyborg
      @theboredcyborg  4 роки тому +1

      I sound like a broken record, but it's always so refreshing reading your comments. We agree in that he's a master, and his work is inimitable, but I'm on the total opposite side of the spectrum in terms of how I feel about his movies--I LOVE THEM... if you couldn't already tell. I get down with both types of action scenes--the elaborate ones, and the short and sweet, shoot some bad guy in the face and be out ones. But very few actors exhilarate me like The Chan-Man. It also helps that I grew up watching his flicks with my pops. I have a nostalgic story about Rumble in the Bronx that I'll save for a video. I totally respect that you can't get down with his films. Honestly, it takes some balls to even admit that on the 'Tube, haha! So, good on you. I agree, Bleeding Steel was a really rough, garish film to sit through, but anytime Chan was on screen his presence slightly obscured the film's incompetence--it's surely one of his worst. I could take a gander as to which one you love, but we'll save that conversation for the next video, which will feature the rest of my Jackie Chan collection--all blu-rays! Take it easy, Mike!
