The Diamonds CAN'T Fuse - Steven Universe Theory

Despite Steven Universe still being on hiatus, there are still a few things to talk about. One of my favorite topics of Steven Universe is definitely fusion. And I know many people, myself included, have long awaited a fusion of two or more diamonds. Just thinking about how powerful this gem would be is truly incredible. But yet, if the Diamond Authority had this power at their disposal, how come they did not use this to stop the Crystal Gems and the rebellion? Well, a possible answer to this is that they are simply incapable of fusion! This is, of course, something I would definitely want to be true, but there are some pieces of evidence pointing to this conclusion. Could this be the reason that cross gem fusion is banned on Homeworld? Or did it have something to do with the differences between Yellow Diamond, Blue Diamond, White Diamond, and Pink Diamond?
