  • Part 1 explores Abraham Lincoln's early life, covering his origins in Kentucky and Indiana, his entry into politics, and his presidency amidst challenges like assassination threats and the Civil War. It also touches on Lincoln's personal struggles, including romantic hardships and financial strains, showcasing his growth as a leader navigating a divided nation.
The four-part documentary series 'Lincoln' originally airing on ABC in 1992, is a visually captivating portrayal of the revered president that draws from the Meserve-Kunhardt Collection, a treasure trove of Civil War-era photography. With a score by Alan Menken, it features an all-star cast of voices, including James Earl Jones, Jason Robards, and Glenn Close.

The Greatest Documentary Series (or Documentary in general) ever made about Abraham Lincoln.
I've seen several spanning decades, even the best, and this rises above them all.

Hands down this is the best documentary of Lincoln ever made and I am glad there is an assessable version here on UA-cam as I only have cherished copies on VHS and Laser disc. 💜

Abraham Lincoln's professional focus prior to 1860 was to capitalize on the spirit of 'Manifest Destiny' to the benefit of sectional interests.

I agree with you Jim Plummer. Erasing history does not increase our knowledge or wisdom. It's important to understand what we've been in order to understand who we are.

Exactly. The temptation is to slap a disclaimer on everything, but we are really just pandering to the left’s tendency to rewrite history . We’ve got to stop apologizing for our history. The important part is to learn from it. And by sanitizing it, banning it, and erasing it, we are not teaching future generations of how far we have come….

I can understand why he would say that the challenge he had to face was greater than that of Washington. Washington had more people in the country supporting him...the colonies were united. By the time of Lincoln there were two Americas, union and confederate...Not many wanted to assassinate Washington.
