      Oranges are pretty cool, was never a line I put a whole lot of effort into, because there was so little interest in them. Since I have the time to put into it now I really wanna make a super nice orange line, it probably wont be this line though lol. This one is my worst orange line because I didn't stay on top of it when I first made it an orange tank. Was just a plant and algae mess for years with guppies and random cull shrimp lol.

      @@MarkShellyAquatics from the looks with some future culls that line could shape up in a few months yes? I need to do another update on my blue dreams🙂 they have exploded the population , a few months from now and I might have to start a cull tank😅

      @@pelhamsaquatics Its come a long long ways. Been resetting this one every 4 months or so and really trying to get the really bad ones that pop up, then this really hard reset oughta get it doing pretty good. Hoping once this group breeds this line will be good.
      Was looking at my reds last night that I've been resetting, they are really looking good. Gonna do another reset here really soon and when those breed out we'll probably be good enough for fire reds

    Great video! When keeping the best do you just grab the best males and females or do you do a ratio of males to females like 5-1?

    • @MarkShellyAquatics
      @MarkShellyAquatics  Рік тому +3

      I'm just looking for the best shrimp, no set ratio, but always end up with way more females since females are generally much better than males.

    Question I'm new what is the difference between pumpkin orange shrimp and Sunkist shrimp?

    • @MarkShellyAquatics
      @MarkShellyAquatics  8 місяців тому

      Really just orange neos. Names are made up to sell more shrimp or can have something to do with grades. Sometimes, but not always, the sunkist and sakura can mean higher grades, and pumpkin can mean a lower grade, not always but sometimes.

    • @MarkShellyAquatics
      @MarkShellyAquatics  Місяць тому +1

      @ray-antraya4880 I've had greens from both yellows and oranges, in the lines I have the oranges will throw them more often, but that depends on the line you have.

    Hey Mark, at the 1:12 mark at the left side of the screen, was that planaria??

    • @MarkShellyAquatics
      @MarkShellyAquatics  Рік тому +2

      Looks like a copepod aka water flea going through grains of sand or maybe some kind.of detritus worm. Rhabo type of worm maybe? Never have had planaria in all these years.

      @MarkShellyAquatics i am new to shrimp so i have some mix colors.
      And its just on small tank but not many.
      But was thinking to get just one color on a new maybe 5 gallon tank. I am curious and wanna get a green color one, i saw the chart it can be yellow or orange.
      What is better chance to get green?
      Yellow? 🟡
      Orange? 🟠

    I’m new to the hobby 😅how do you get the moss to not float? Or do they naturally stay down ?

    • @MarkShellyAquatics
      @MarkShellyAquatics  Рік тому +1

      You can stick some of it into substate to anchor it down, stick a rock or 2 on top of it and moss will cover rock. Or just make sure you get all the air bubbles out and most mosses will settle on their own too.

      Orange come from reds, so they make a good mix... for mixing neos.

    How can you tell orange from yellow???

    • @MarkShellyAquatics
      @MarkShellyAquatics  Рік тому +2

      Orange and yellow are completely different lines. My oranges throw greens and reds, but not yellow. The lighter ones are just lower grade, not different color.

      @@MarkShellyAquatics so I’m looking to purchase orange locally in my area and the pic’s look exactly like the yellow ones in my area both seem to have a “yellow/gold” saddle . How would I be able to confirm them in your opinion?

    • @MarkShellyAquatics
      @MarkShellyAquatics  Рік тому

      If they are yellow, you will be able to tell. I mean there are also certain colors that are more susceptible to color blindness and people seeing colors differently, but if its yellow you should be able to tell.

    When you change the water , do you add microbiology and mineral ?

    • @MarkShellyAquatics
      @MarkShellyAquatics  Рік тому +1

      As you can see there is still plenty of micro biology left, filter media stayed wet, and while I sucked out sludge there is still mulm left in substrate. My hard tap water has all the minerals I need. Only thing added was Safe for the chloramines in my tap water.

    • @tacobob891
      @tacobob891 Рік тому +1

      This sounds like Vin's style of shrimp keeping. He doesn't cycle a tank, adds bacteria and minerals and leaves it like that until he water changes. Every 6 months he resets. In America we use cycled tanks and just do regular water changes for the most part.

    How many neos should I get to start breeding them?

    • @MarkShellyAquatics
      @MarkShellyAquatics  Рік тому

      The more you get, the faster they will reproduce, as I like to say more shrimp make more shrimp lol. All my lines were started with 10 to 20 shrimp, most were just 10.

    Why are you pulling berried shrimp for the new colony? A lower grade male could have mated with that berried…

    • @MarkShellyAquatics
      @MarkShellyAquatics  Рік тому

      It could have, but many times in my thriving colonies all best females are already berried mostly anyways.

    • @tacobob891
      @tacobob891 Рік тому

      The shape of the body is usually a dead give away. Once you know what to look for you can sex shrimp instantly. Male shrimp won't have a "skirt" on their body. Even juveniles can be sexed this way and very quickly.

    • @dylanhughes5944
      @dylanhughes5944 8 місяців тому

      that will mean the water just gets harder and harder. Sounds like your water isn't liquid rock at 300-400 tds or you'd have run into molting issues by now@@MarkShellyAquatics

    • @MarkShellyAquatics
      @MarkShellyAquatics  8 місяців тому

      @dylanhughes5944 weekly water changes and each tank gets an extra big water change a couple times a year, lots of tanks get completely reset every 6 months. Tds in tanks is 20 or 30 tds higher than tap for the most part.
