As a Norwegian I stay way clear of this cheese and cannot for the life of me understand how it became a thing in the first place, you guys got my respect!
Its just like pinnekjøtt and things like that, just became a thing because it doesn't go bad and it doesn't need refrigeration. Of course pinnekjøtt is delicious, so not exactly the same :P
I am Norwegian and I love this cheese. A slice goes well together with a beer. I admit this might be an acquired taste and somehow I am the only one in my household that eats it :D
@@jonaslarsen7641 I dont know... crystalized THC is sandy, ever have diamonds? Crystals in hash might be a high purity sign. as long as it's not actual sand that is. Hash is earthy enough.
So hyped for the video. Been watching you guys since almost the beginning, i subbed when you were around 10,000 subs. Love you guys. Always have me coming back.
Haha, Gamalost is awesome. Put it on flatbread with butter, sour cream and lingonberry! Gamalost has roots back to the viking era. The cheese got its name because it was stored for a long time on the small "cabins" up in the mountains of Norway. Don`t know the english word for the "cabins" but Google, "støl", "stølene" or "en seter". Anyway, I love Gamalost, and your videos. :-P
Only nostalgic senior citizens eat that moldy cheese 😂 We used to be dirt poor before the oil money and that’s why most of our traditional foods are nasty AF
Im born and raised in Norway, and this is actually pretty good if you eat it with flatbread, sour cream and lingonberry jam. Like you said, it woun’t taste good to just eat it like it is, try to mix it with something else and your experience will be completely different
A colleague of mine eats it quite often, but on bread. I personally have never tasted it, but I've always wanted to. Most stors do actually sell it. You should definitely try pultost too. Another Norwegian classic
You would eat this on brown or white bread with lots of butter, and for extra luxury you would marinate the cheese in port for sometime before serving it.
Hey paul! Ive been watching you guys for a long time and i just wanna say thanks for still posting videos even after some of the mates are long gone. Frickin legend you are
Oh my god! This it NOT the way to eat our delicious viking-cheese. You have to put a thin slice on the norwegian flat dry bread called"Flatbrød". And under the (very!) thin slice of cheese you have to spread a thick layer of the salty butter made of pure fat milk, called "Setersmør". So next time you are lucky enough to meet an Gamalost, you have to eat it like it supposed to be eaten. I am sure you will enjoy it then. It is really healthy and has been made in the same way for a 1000 years. Respect 🤘
I've been watching u guys since you did video in your back garden lol shows that alot of hard work persistent to finally starting to get your recognition keep doing what u do your gonna grow!
It says on the top "Put a small slice of Gamalost on a piece of flatbread, add some butter/sour cream and some cranberry jam" Yeah, Im norwegian and I wouldn't eat that.
You're doing it wrong. Gammalost is a delicacy, like Limburger. In the old days, farmers drove their cattle to summer pastures. There was no way to preserve the milk but by making cheese. When snows fell in winter, they'd haul the cheeses out on sleds. The taste, to me, is like the aroma of a chicken barn; a touch of ammonia. It's an ancient taste that unlocks hidden memories. Try a small amount on buttered flatbread in order to replicate the experience of your ancestors, since you are British, and most certainly have some from the North.
Peru have some interesting foods. Such as Cuy or should I say roasted guinea pig. I definitely want to go there to try some of their non meat related stuff.. Matt can have the guinea pigs haha
@@Challenge I'm a fan of... uh... GOOD Cheeses lol So a super dry flavorful Pecorino rind texture cheese sounds interesting to me. Another thing I want to try is Biltong, which is south African Jerky. Supposed to be a completely different style to American Jerky but it's Expensive to import.
im half Norwegian/Peruvian. All I can say is that the food and drinks in Peru is so much better, except for the bread and milk where I prefer Norwegian.

This is my fav food of all time. It's so frikkin good. You need to balance the taste with some dry bread, seed crackers, dark grainy bread or something. And butter. And a strong IPA beer. fffffffffffff so good
Me being a Norwegian cheese lover, tasted gammalost for the first time half a year ago. Tasted like wet dog and poison, and the taste doesn’t leave your taste buds. I pretty much love all foods, but our gammalost as inedible to me.
Norwegian for sure and I just love that stuff, would eat more if it was'nt so expensive. Can be hard to get used to for sure, but like many other odd cheeses out there this one can also be quite "addictive" when your brain realizes it is "quite good" 🙂 And most of it is pure whey protein, no fat. Try a thin slice on fresh bread with good butter and you'll get a much better experience ;-)
Ya I got your guys back! Just throwing this out there, you guys should try Jeppson's Malört. It's a liquor that i believe is only sold in Chicago Illinois. There's not many good things to say about it, but it is a Chicago staple. You gotta try it!
Im norwegian and I don't know anyone who actually enjoys it. I once tried it's a kid and couldn't swallow it no matter how hard I tried. I don't understand some people's taste
Lookin a lot healthier these days buddy
Hell yeah paul has done great with himself!

Yes, many of Tolkien’s character-names are inspired from scandinavia.
Or a sexual infection

basically gamalost cheese is produced by Rhizopus stolonifer , a type of rhizopus fungus which you will find in stale breads and dairy foodstuffs.
Im born and raised in Norway, and this is actually pretty good if you eat it with flatbread, sour cream and lingonberry jam. Like you said, it woun’t taste good to just eat it like it is, try to mix it with something else and your experience will be completely different
So from what I'm gathering the cheese is an acquired taste that's best when paired with other foods.
