My advice for those who have yet to take their written test: If you are dedicated to studying hard by listening and/or reading the guidebook and taking practice tests online, you are more than likely to pass the test. Some things that I did to further increase my knowledge was to study road signs, ride in a car with someone and examine other drivers, ask friends who drive questions regarding the test as well as how to prepare (their own experience), and take hand written notes and using Quizlet sets/ flashcards (of course, this is all optional). I found myself studying for longer than necessary, although my commitment to preparing was worth it when I passed my test yesterday. But of course, everyone has different studying techniques and retains information in a variety of ways-- studying by reading, writing, typing, and visual presentations can certainly help depending on which works for you! Fortunately, listening to the guide can be great for auditory learners and is a good way to prepare! Moreover, as someone who has difficulties taking exams, it can be hard to calm nerves before the test. Here's a list of some things that I did to help calm my nerves: 1) taking my time, reading each question carefully, and using common sense in different situations. 2) taking deep breaths. 3) praying. 4) getting good sleep. 5) eating something light. 6) reading the guidebook one final time before entering the DMV. 7) reminding myself constantly that it is not the end of the world if I fail. The DMV permits 3 tries on the written test with a score of around 83 or higher. Of course, this depends on where you live. This information applies to the CA DMV. Doing all of the things mentioned above enabled me to perform well on the test. As long as you are studying hard, understanding the elements of the guidebook, and reading or listening to the guidebook as many times as you need, you will be just fine! I hope this helps.

I just passed today and I want to say that listening to the audiobook really helped. Practice tests help a ton too but a lot of the questions I got on the actual test were in the book. I recommend reading/skimming the book 2-3 times because there were some things I had on the test that were not there on the practices tests

I’m autistic and I failed my test like 7 times I couldn’t take a chance on reading the handbook. But when I listen to the audio on UA-cam, I just read the book and follow along. But I don’t read the whole book each day. I read half of it each day until I get all the way to the end of the book by listening to the audio. And when I take that test again, I really hope for the love of god to help me pass that test this time.

Ok so I am 25 and after years of people trying to convince me to get my license I finally decided to do it. I didn’t study at all and on the day of my test I skimmed this video for about an hour and ended up getting 9 wrong(only 8 allowed). The lady that graded it encouraged me to try again because she genuinely believed that I had studied lol. I considered going home but I went for it and passed with 8 errors:) Update: Don’t know if any of y’all care but I forgot to update a few months back. I passed my behind the wheel but missed 14 out of 15. The dmv examiner literally told me he shouldn’t have passed me and the lady who handed my my temporary license told my husband to keep an eye on me because I should not be allowed on the road😭

@@jos1hh Mostly because it was computerized. When I took the written test, I passed with only three wrong. Because of COSHIT, the weather, and myself, I didn't get my license, so I have to take it again.
Although this is outdated still helped me a ton today! Was able to pass my test with a 39/40! Thank you because of my adhd it's hard to focus when reading. Putting this helped with note taking and having it as background noise as I did other things. Great review!

California DMV they will allow you three tries on the written test -it’s taken on a computer in a partitioned room with other people standing near, taking theirs. There’s a DMV person watching for anyone who tries to cheat. I took two tests for a license renewal, the motorcycle and the standard license…I haven’t taken either in a long time, if I didn’t pass after all these years of driving, I’d be pretty upset with myself! Even so, I studied and took practice tests. They will allow you to take the written three times, you can take all three the same day if you want to. I recommend making an appointment. You’re still gonna wait but I’d say it cuts wait time in half. You’re also dealing with some bored government people, some of them are super-nasty. Just be polite and do what they ask.

Finally, something that helps. I'm tired of getting my handbook and flipping through the pages just to find section 12. Section 12 is what messes me up, I failed 3 times because of it. Well that and some other one that talks about kids sitting up at the front or back of a car.
