Thank you for such the comprehensive review. It's refreshing to see someone actually take the time to paddle the kayak around before reviewing it. So many reviewers just walk around the boat on land or show that you can stand up in it on water without actually paddling around for a good 20min. It was also nice to see you take it off of the roof, as someone who would also need to car top it. Looks like a great kayak!
Thank you very much for watching and commenting. Portability is huge matter for me because I cartop my kayak most of the time. I have multiple kayaks but the portable one gets used the most.
The problem with kayaks today is all the unnecessaries I like the keep it simple approach that crescent is doing. I go kayak fishing the same way I hike up to a mountain lake or stream, knowing exactly what I need and not packing unnecessaries.
I am considering this yak for fishing and wondered if you can actually stand up in it..so thanks for doing that! I mainly just want to be able to stretch once in a while so that was great to see you stand..Thanks!
I caught your Mokelumne River fishing vids, so I'm checking out your kayak reviews. I've just started exploring the Mokelumne, after being exiled from the San Joaquin River. Lack of riverfront access makes a kayak a must for the Moke.

MooMoo Outdoors question. Is it normal to get some water inside the hull? I used it this weekend for my first time and i noticed about 1litre of water got inside
@@db1jdm It is normal to get some water inside the hull. No kayak is water proof. The water mostly comes in from the front hatch. Some kayaks comes with better gasket. Was it choppy? A lot of water coming on to the deck? I get about 1 liter on a very choppy day on my Revo and Revo comes with really good silicon/rubber gasket.
MooMoo Outdoors No choppy waters and i didn’t notice the front getting wet, the only little water that came inside was from the sides along the seat. When i got outta the water i had to stand the kayak to drain the water from the drain hole, actually it was much more than a litre, i would say it was maybe a gallon or two, a liter got stuck in there and i had to dip my arm inside with a towel to remove the rest of the water.
MooMoo Outdoors Hello! would like to update my issues with water intrusion into the hull. I used two pieces of velcro and a double bead of butyl water proof tape around the original seal and it worked amazing! Not a drop of water into the hull
Nice review Moo. I saw Heath's interview on the yak-tribe YTKS podcast where he interviewed the owner of Crescent Kayaks. Really cool guy and good company. 👍
This is a difficult question. I like paddling LiteTackle better and I like the simple and clean design but I like how the Moken is rudder ready and a little bit lighter to cartop and to move it around. I guess it will depends on the type of fishing you'll be doing and how you are transporting it. They are both great kayak.
Moo, thank you for your excellent product reviews. I know this question comes two years later but how would you rate the 2022 Hobie Passport 12.0R ($1,900) versus the Old Town Sportsman Salty 120 ($2,200) versus the Feelfree Lure v2 (11.5 for $2,200 and 13.5 for 2,300) as ocean-going fishing kayaks for a novice? The Passport is priced the best but maybe it needs more upgrades that will make it cost the same? The Lures have the option to add a trolling motor for $1,200, something I might consider later.
They are all ocean capable. Here are some what I think pros and cons of each kayak. Passport Pros: Light weight, Low seat for better center gravity Passport Cons: No cockpit rudder up/down control and flimsy rudder system, Wet ride because of low bow. Salty Pro: Best haul design for the ocean (out of these 3) Salty Cons: Heavy, High seat (non adjustable), Lure 13.5 Pros: Most comfortable seat and adjustable height, front hatch, easily motorized Lure 13.5 Cons: Wet ride (low bow), Heaviest (out of these 3) If you are getting the Lure, spend $100 more and get the 13.5. Better traction, better speed, and more deck space. Only reason to get the 11.5 is if you don't have the storage and/or the weight is too heavy. I hope this helps.
Have you thoughts about the Lite Tackle vs. the Old Town 120? I'm mainly going to be fishing on the Susquehanna River and upper Chesapeake and want a boat that will handle chop and wind, paddle well, and do an odd overnight here and there (I'm primarily a canoe person)...
I used to own Topwater 120 PDL but never tried Topwater 120 paddle version. I'm sure Topwater 120 is going to feel more stable because of the hull shape but my guess is it will be slower.
Hello from the Washington Coast. First off, thank you for your great videos! I look forward to them very much. I just sold my boat and am going to get serious about kayak fishing now. I have dabbled throughout the years on my trusty old Malibu Mini-x. I target crab, rockfish, trout, salmon and lings close to home with a trout rod in shallow water and ocean fed, tidle creeks. My kayak is stable but very slow. I don't want to shell out $3k for the Hobie and was leaning toward OK 13' Trident. If you had to pick between the two, which would you go with?
Trident 13 is one of the best big water fishing kayak. Pedal kayaks are just so convenient. Hands free operation. It's a game changer when trolling. I personally think that everyone needs a good paddling kayak in their fleet.
I've been using the Yakima roof rack and I'm very happy with it. Yakima cost more than some of other brands but it's really solid. Last thing I want is the roof rack failing when I'm driving.
Nice review! I saw on Instagram maybe 6-8 weeks ago that Crescent is working on an accessory that will give the seat more height. I’m not sure when it will be released.
Hey MooMoo, Slick review! What size paddle is that Angler Navigator? I just received my LT and am trying to figure out a paddle size. I'm 5'8". To tell you the truth I'm leaning towards a Shuna. Thanks for the review...it was a big factor when deciding to get mine.
I'm 5'7 and I was using 230. I personally prefer shorter paddle than longer paddle. Werner Shuna is a great paddle too. Super light and I like the blade shape as well.
There's a lot of storage in the front of the kayak! On the bottom of the kayak, is there an advantage to having indentions/slats that run the length with those "holes" rather than having a smooth bottom? Is it for some sort of attachments?
I think you are talking about the scuppet holes and how they are recessed. Scupper holes drain water from the deck of the kayak and the reason why those holes are recessed, I do not know. Every kayak I've seen has recessed scupper holes on the bottom. I will find out from an expert.
A lot of people, including myself started out with a cheap box store kayak and soon realize it's limitation and upgrade to proper kayak. The best thing to do is go to local shop and demo. Hopefully my videos can help if you don't have a local kayak shop with demo program.
You made the unloading look really easy, camera tricks? I’ve heard some complaints that it’s really heavy, closer to 87lbs with the seat? Ill be car-topping exclusively, to me ease of loading/unloading factors into my ROI...like how often I take it out on the water?
I don't think it weighs 87lb even with the seat. You would normally load/unload without the seat anyway. To my guess, it weighs about 75 lbs without the seat. Loading is not so easy with this kayak, not because of the weight but the placement of the handle which is not balanced and bow end is much heavier. If I were to buy this kayak, I would install a second handle for cartopping. To my guess this weighs about 75 lbs without the seat.
Wanting to get a kayak soon but have a sedan with no rails. What kind are you using on your car? Only options I found are Yakima and Thule but are $450+ :(
Yes I feel you. I've also looked into cheaper option but kept hearing and reading horror stories where the rack failed. So I decided to spend some money on Yakima and I am very happy with it so far.
I am a short guy (5’5”, 155lbs). Do you think it will be too big for me? I like this kayak because of bigger dry storage as compared to ck1. Thank you and more power!
Thanks. I use Suspenz DLX cart. After breaking 2 diy pvc carts and a cheap $40 cart, I'm very happy with it. So far, I've used it for 3 years now and they are holding up strong. In many occasions I stacked 2 kayaks on it too.

This is one of the best all around, jack of all trades kayak. Standing will be much easier with seat elevator and assist rope.
I like the open deck gives plenty of working space. Also like the square transom gives the option to use a trolling motor without any modifications.
Yes I really like the open deck as well.
