    I loved this makeover and the fact that the owners were so involved in the makeover. It is unbelievable that it was all done in one day!!!! Beautiful results. I loved the Japanese Red Maple in the corner. I would have liked to the the area with the corridor and see how it came out. Thanks for this video, many great ideas to implement! Greetings from Miami, FL May 2020

    Very efficient demonstration, but could have taken ten more seconds at the end to shoot the final product from a couple of different angles.

    I've been a builder for many years and have seen quite a fair bit of sheds. The plans in ryan's package ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxB7IXYxLzb_Ichhe45zM3Im5xfEiSp9vB have some of the nicest looking sheds i've seen in a while.

    I find it funny how he made a video about how to plant a tree, where he talks about how you have to loosen the roots if they are circling and in this video he just said screw it and just planted the pot bound Japanese maple lol

    The Japanese Maple was badly root bound. The roots should have been cut before planting it.

    • @berealrelentless6237
      @berealrelentless6237 6 років тому +3

      Nickolai is correct, rack out and trim some roots as well as pruning back the top(foliage and branches) and the tree will be healthy. Without, the roots may girdle worse and perhaps kills the tree. If he prunes it as mentioned, yearly, he can keep it small and vigorous.

    I love this video. I love ANY video from This Old House. But I have to laugh, especially at 1:21 when you are digging down to loosen up the soil. I know it sucks for me, but I live in a 15-year old development where farm land existed before my house. It's in San Tan Valley AZ and wow, going down with a shovel deeper than about 1/4" is a mystery, let alone impossible. I'm not asking for a solution, but I just had to comment that even though that looks like a lot of work, be thankful you do not live where I do.
    I am not kidding, it's that bad. I dug a hole to plant a Lantana, and before we planted, I filled it with water, in the middle of our 120° summer!!! The next day, the water was down about 1" but still there. I suspect the 1" left in the form of evaporation, but seemed like none of it absorbed and left through the sides. Basically like a hole in concrete. :(
    EDIT: I did find that if I water the ground with a length of soaker 1/4" for a couple of hours per day, the stuff turns to quicksand. THEN I can actually dig down. This has to be the hardest soil on the planet! I cannot WAIT to move to a place with fertile soil. Anyway, great video! THANKS!
