- ( www.TFLcar.com ) The 2012 Jeep Patriot Latitude is a no-frills work horse of a small Jeep that can be trail rated. This means that it is good on the road and off the road for buyers who want to commute to school during the week and go off-road on the weekend.

What ever happened to this guy being part of TFL?
Not bad. It's unfortunate, the Patriot only has another year left. It's scheduled to replaced by the new 2014 Jeep Liberty, The Compass will be the entry line CUV.
Thank The Lord roman and Nathan took over this channel
Good video review , I'd love to see a review of the Chrysler 300 with the 8speed nobody has done it yet or a good one at least .
How much power do you really need; especially if you are off-road or driving around town? Nevertheless; it may not be a vehicle for a person who is in need of a primary daily driver. I love it for driving around town and in bad weather.
Test drive both vehicles under the same conditions and same road. Drive both hard and find the steepest hill you can find. You will see why the badge says Jeep. Good luck
Great review.
i have a 2011 jeep compass trail rated and it is absoluty awsome in the mud, rocks snow,i have not got it stuck yet and the 19:1 gear is great for climbing rocks and desending hills
Thank you, MrMischiefVP.
I have an 08 Escape and a 2010 Patriot, love both of them but I think the patriot is a little more manly looking. Both do great in snow!
'badge' patriot only true 4x4, which the Escape isn't, and non badge Pat's are not either
Great job. Like the new guy's style of reviews. Good balance of stats, opinion, and entertainment factor. More reviews like this please!
definitely considering one of these for my second vehicle! Going brand new this time and just want to make sure I make the right choice! :)
a very smart looking suv, i just wonder how safe it it is.
I know this is old, but this is a terrible review. The 2.4 isn't the only engine, the manual in a Patriot is not better for off-roading - it powers out too easy in first gear. The Latitude does not "come" Trail Rated, the Freedom Drive II Off Road Group is additional on all models in 2012, and has a different CVT than a Freedom Drive I Patriot.
Remember the CVT has autostick, so you can shift the vehicle if you feel it revs a little too high.
This vehicle was purchased as a second family vehicle that we can use as a daily driver and drive during inclement weather. It’s a handsome looking vehicle that feels like a JEEP with air suspensions. I learned to drive when I was in the Army and that vehicle was an Army Jeep. So if you are looking for an inexpensive small SUV with 4X4 capabilities and made in the USA; this might be the vehicle for you. If gas is not a primary concern; get the 2.4 for a little more pep!
They will replace the Patriot and the Compass with a single vehicle in 2014 (will be based on the Dart platform) and will add in a subcompact model and replacement for the Liberty around the same time.
What's the horsepower difference sport and latitude. 4x2 and 4x4? ?
What is the difference between the Patriot and the Compass besides looks? Are they pretty much the same vehicle?
A while back I heard that jeep was going to stop making this and the compass...why haven't they stopped? I really like the compass. Good video
my family has a 2011 Jeep Patriot 2WD 2.0L 5 speed. I've driven the 2.4L 5 speed as well and I can easily say that I wouldn't ever consider the CVT option. The 5 speed in the jeeps is just as easy to drive as a Honda Fit no joke.
We got our 2WD model brand new for $13,100 and we've never looked back, epic trollface on when seeing someone driving a latitude though, it's almost double the price what we paid!
at 24k it's only competitor off road is Forester/Outback.
I get tired of seeing these people claim to test a suv on off road conditions that are smooth grass, a small muddy area, or a gravel/small rock area. Thats my drive way, and small cars can drive over that stuff. Try real off rough terrain if your going to claim off roading.
Guys the pricing and options aren't completely correct. There is a Patriot Sport, which starts at under 16k, but after you equip it with a CVT it'll set you back another thousand or so. If you add the packages, you can have a pretty nicely equipped version for under 20k. BTW, the Fuel Economy is 30 mpg if you buy new.
you guys seem to get all the cars before anyone else
top IIHS safety pick
Hey review the 2014 Patriot
This is a beautiful vehicle. High resale and High fun. Go get one!
My patriot is Awsome I have put on like 18kmiles the first year great for the city and decent for a trail into the woods for a fishing trip. My patriot is a 2013. I reccomend it.
How is your patriot holding up I’m considering one with 2.4
bigmig5150 I traded it in last April for my RAM1500 but when I traded it in I had over 100k miles on it only issues I had the bearings in the reset wheels I had to replace twice other that that it ran like a champ for me it was just time to upgrade to something with more room and power.
I wish Chrysler would have put the 2.7 v6 in this and a regular automatic transmission... that way you would have had more power.
I own a 2010 jeep patriot 2x4 manual transmission, I can tell you guys my 2x4 patriot can get me where a lots of 4x4 trucks won't go. This summer I had been gone fishing to lake cacaoui, Qc, Canada. I have never seen a compact SUV there exept me. No one would believe I'm getting there with a 2x4 !
Knowing that, I would recommend the patriot to anyone who would like an economic car that can get you where you want to go, without wasting all your money on gas. I think the patriot is a smart choic
Does yours have 4x4?
i love this jeep. i would get one if one, i could afford it. two, if a manual could come on a fully loaded model. and three, if i liked SUVs, which i don't since i like wagons.
I just bought mine. I got the much cheaper version, and I love it. Mine is not trail rated, only has the 2.0 L engine, and the CVT tranny. It is the sport model not the latitude. Base price is only 15995. When he said the fuel economy is much better in the CRV, he may be correct on that model, however mine gets 30 mpg hwy. Just my input for the day. :) OIIIIIO
I prefer Roman and Nathan.
Hey, your audio is only mono.
I'm in the market for a pre-owned SUV/crossover. I'm torn about this one because of the poor reviews on edmonds. It is the least expensive in its category, but the reviews are terrible compared to it's competition (Toyota Rav4, Ford Escape, etc.).
handicapitation yo if you haven't bought a car by now, buy the Pat over the others.
they just added a 6 speed auto, same engines though
Snow, probably. actual offroad? the Trail Rated Patriot/Liberty is the best in it's class because of all the skid plates and better suspension etc. a normal 4x4 non trail rated Patriot/Liberty is probably the same as a Forester offroad, this being 2009+ foresters.
What ever happend to Dave?
Has his own channel Everyman Driver, but you Know that by now.
there really isn't. There are two engines: 2.0 and 2.4, which are 150hp and 170hp
OlllllllO jeeps are the best
they won't have a replacement till prolly 2015
Just bought a 2012 Jeep Patriot with 38,000 miles for 11,000 and traded in my 2007 Ford F150 King Ranch and so far their are pros and cons with the Jeep. Great on gas but sucks on power. When your stopped and want to go the engine will run 6000 rpm then after awhile it will go down to 2000 rpm as you drive.
You sir have what we call a CVT. It's the worst transmission ever created. Especially for off roading.
+acrz861 LOL you're not wrong!
Why! For the love! King Ranch! I would have kept the Ford. Yes. Great on gas horrible on power. Welcome to the world of CVT. Try going off-roading then tell me how you feel. I have an 05 Jeep Liberty with the 3.7L V6. Wouldn't trade it for anything. Amazing off-road.
acrz861 I hear that the 3.7 doesn't sound too great tho.
I've seen Patriots fly over much worse roads then in this video. ....very much worse. ....It's a truly capable Jeep and the slightly smaller cousin of the (overpriced) Wrangler. ..😎
Dead on!
thats was amazing off road!!! -.-.......hate 4 bangers
I could do that trail in a Toyota Prius take the jeep where it'll shine
Wow what serious off roading...a fucking wrx or lancer evo couldve taken those roads. Boxy is good if you do it right.
my driveway is more "offroad" than that!!! take it to Moab or some place worth mentioning!!!
i don't know about you but i've found my forester to be more capable offroad and certainly better in the snow than the patriot
i'm an Escape owner but don't really like the styling or the
softer direction Ford is taking with that model.
i still need something more off road friendly and
maybe a bit boxier for carrying space and interior room.
the Jeep seems to fit the bill.
Did you buy it?
OlllllO jeep
ITS NOT AN SUV!!!!! IT'S A JEEP!!! 0||||||0
Still not loving the "news anchor" way of speaking, but everything else is peachy :)
I driven worse in a chevy impala.
Meh, I get the Wrangler. This is an ugly, plastic poor alternative to the Land Rover Freelander.
I hate this american examples of Off Road, a least in this kind of review .. how the hell is that off road and fun?? I can everything he did in the video with a 2003 yaris ... please dont take a supposedly trail rated vehicle through a little dirt path to prove its off roadness
