  • Yggdrasil is an ever intriguing aspect of nordic mythology, tied as it is to life, the cosmology, the worlds, and many potential afterlives. But, let's look between the lines and see what we can infer from the form of Yggdrasil and how it ties to other supplementary ideas around Nordic beliefs...you know, as I tend to do.
    What we can say is that trees are crucially important to pre-Christian religious practice, and it's no surprise to see that idea echoed on such a potentially colossal scale.
    Over the length of this video I essentially steel man the idea of Yggdrasil as presented in the literature around the conversion period. There's a future video in the works about addressing the dominant paradigm that disputes the notion of nine realms/worlds and looks at the potential for 'heim' meaning enclosure/home/land - that is to say, that these realms were understood to just mean land or home to various peoples.
