Which is one of many reasons why using eregion as a shield is just so much nicer, its light really isn't worse than the torch especially when holding the block button. And the warmer light for me personally makes it easier to see. (Sure its only tier 1, but it still blocks everything like any higher tier shield and you never block enough for it to break honestly)
@@Natharneal Masterworks are technically tierless; Quarrymaster, T3, mines everything, so you can technically skip Ihraz Granite and Silver and go straight to Adamant and Gold (not really recommended, but just saying you technically could)
@@KainYusanagi Not sure if you meant to respond to someone else, but the shield I am referring to is the one that gives light and is unlocked at the first large forge. A tier 1 shield and not masterwork. Its light is basically on par with the masterwork torch.

I use the pickaxe masterwork, and I use the eregion shield which is very bright, and then the miners helmet when mining, and even though the shield is tier 1 it still lasts a very long time in combat
So the wander keg allows you to go to the deepest dark so long as its filled with mirinfil (sp?) So long as you have the buff you will always be healing so it negates despair. You can also drop it and use it where it lays so if you have a warp stone nearby you have a quick refil place.
I haven't progressed far enough yet to make all the MW items, but for me, who only plays solo right now, its the Shield. I love 1hd weapons and having a shield that blocks everything and takes no damage is a life saver. For the light source I pretty much run around with the miners helm equipped at all times, unless I'm clearing a big room of monsters, then I'll swap to a battle bucket. But having that light source at all times is super handy and still allows the use of the shield.
if your still playing. the game has transmog. you can just make every helm a miners helmet. 100G and 10 onyx one time fee. after that you can apply it to any helm.
UPDATE!!! THE SHIELDWALL DOES LOSE DURABILITY. After the shield is hit. the hit must be over a X value (at this time i dont know what the damage number is to hit) then it loses durability.
Quarrymaster, allows you mine anything. Good plan to carry the kit for a campfire, bedroll, food table and a repair bench. Plenty of metal shards to fit wall light and/or standing lights. Make notes of locations, trying to remember everything is not advisable.
Solo player here, advanced to the bottom of the big shaft in the mines. Then accosted to the point of dying like 20 times, it got to where I was being killed almost Apon awakening. I Gave up and started fresh with a new character, using what I've learned previously. Just about ready to assault the first great forge, again....I really enjoy having a guide so I don't make as many deadly mistakes this time
You wasted your collection of items. I died in the first world I played. And rage quited. Therefore, I left the world before I respawn and lose the whole inventory. Later when I calmed down about the game, I deleted the world and started a new, just like you, BUT with the same character. And I had everything the character carried when it's died with me in the fresh start.
Nice overview of each of the MW items. My two favorites are the Light and Pickaxe. I recommend people crafting the Pick asap as it lets you mine Adamate long before you can craft the Ironwood pick.
I alternate between two setups, depending. Going out fighting/exploring I'll keep the torch on my back because 2h weapons are fun and like to keep my helmet. If I'm going to grab a bunch of resources I'll swap to Quarrymaster and the miner's helmet. Shield doesn't seem as advantageous to me as I've never really gotten close to breaking a regular shield and I habitually always want to keep my #2 hotkey my shield. The keg doesn't seem needed solo, usually keep a brewskin with whatever I need and booze up before sleeping at base.
The torch has helped me throughout my entire 80 (in game) day journey through Khazad-Dum. And then on occasion Durin's Axe and then the spear for its intended purpose. But beyond that? Torch all the way
As a solo I think the only useful one is the torch, the pick is good but I do not care if I mine a little slower. If you need and unbreakable shield when any weapon or shield can block I think you need to look at your combat style or weapon tier as fights should not be that long you break them plus all shields are the same just different looks and the keg while fun is a group thing

It may not have much armor as a T1 helmet, but its light is forever, and it now makes it so you never experience the "in darkness" debuff (and the hope loss that leads to despair, too) except in the Darkest Deeps. The pick is so good because it ignores material tier restriction, meaning you can mine Adamant when you haven't even unlocked Ironwood or Shanor. Also, for a lot of situations, you need to fight a lot before you can upgrade to a weapon of the appropriate tier of the enemies you're fighting. They did not do a good job with enemy placement according to tier.
@BarnicleBill put one helmet on and the other in one of the hockey slots and it switches between the 2. The one that you have on gets put in the hockey slot and the one in the hockey gets put on your character
I believe the Keg has the most value, especially if your fighting a lot or are in areas with despair. I like the torch the most, hate not being able to see anything😂.

Once i made pickaxe QUARRYMASTER i saw how fast digging is with it. It was my item till the end of the game. I played with all oher masterwork items to check them out but yeah... Nothing came close to that pickaxe for me. You didn't mention this but QUARRYMASTER can destroy orc chests, it deals 25 damage per hit to them and its about 10 hits to destroy chest with it if i remember correctly. This can be very useful if you are unlucky and orc key drops below the ground... well now you can destroy the chest and get all items from it anyway.
If I remember correctly the quarry master unlocked by the time I got to the second great forge … wished I started using it then and there cause waiting to upgrade to ironwood was long
For me the torch is not worth using the MW slot for. The game isn't super dark like a lot of other games tend to be. I almost never use a torch anyway other than if there is a really dark corner somewhere. The keg I don't find terribly useful because I don't even bother with the buffs most of the time. They don't do all that much to begin with unless you've got every single buff running at the same time. But most of them you can't take with you so you can only apply them before you set out from your base, and they're usually worn off by the time you get anywhere you would actually benefit from them. The pickaxe allows you to start mining silver, gold, gems as well as the stone variants they're contained in long before you would normally be able to. So you can clear out every ore vein above the crystal descent and know that there is nothing for you to go back there for, and have a decent headstart on materials as you start unlocking more recipes. I tend to make dedicated mining runs and just get everything in site until my inventory is full. So if I'm mining I'll take the MW pickaxe. If I'm not mining then it's the shield.
The keg is actually pretty powerful not because of multibuffing but because its benefits are directly tied to what brew you're carrying in it. If you're getting poisoned a lot, take the brew that nullifies and cures poison. Running out of energy a lot while exploring? Evening Ale restores energy when drinking it, straight up; only reasonable and complex meals do that, otherwise. Going down into the Darkest Deeps? There's a drink that gives you regen, counteracting the health loss from Despair.
Quarrymaster is hands down the best one. You get it early on and its faster by affecting a larger area than any other pick. I play solo and it helped me progress quickly.
so i was able to unlock the quarrymaster right as i went into the crystal caverns its been a minute since i crafted it so i cant remember what is required but you can craft it earlier than the final tier of pickaxe
Not really related but is it people that interested in have someone joining and exploring having fun ? Been playing solo all the time so far so not sure how the multiple works.
So I have progressed to the east stairs, but missing quite some number of black diamonds. Is there any recommendation guys? I know I can sometimes get it from horde and chest, but I think I have only got three so far from horde.

Mine the rocks in the deepest depths. The precious gem deposits don't seem to drop them but the rocks scattered across the floor can drop multiple at once!
@@leonmou3727 Orc Town should have netted you at least 10 possibly more, theres 4 chests with atleast 2 each and i think Bolgakh dropped 3. After the update they dropped they increased precious gem drops from mobs in general.

i just finished the game in solo play and my favorite or at least the one i used the most was the torch and at second the pick, i just found out that the shieldwall does not break hahahah im gonna craft it now for the achievments and the keg as well
What aggravates me about the torch is that, when it is on your backpack, your big shadow is in front. It makes it harder to see.

I haven't used the miners helm a lot, but that's a good point! The shield has been my most favorite, so I get where you're coming from!

Having one dwarf use the shield wall to attract a boss and another dwarf attack the boss works well.

Me too. I also have Durins helmet assigned to hotkey 1 so i can switch between them on the fly

The keg is great! I am currently loving the pickaxe though, so much more enjoyable to mine with it.
The torch can easily be substitited with the erebor shield that acts like a torch when held.

Once I got the first special shield, carving chest at first base, I never had durability issues. Weapons always broke 2x rate of shield

Find Orctown and the Crystal Descent. Got like 18 diamonds from Orctown from chests and including killing the boss Bolgakh.

I can't put the torch in the chest or on the shelf, what should I do?
They don't have a way to store it yet, I am hoping they add some kind of item display soon :)

Ive finished on two different maps now, Still never seen the quarry master unlocked. Am i missing something?
Are you rebuilding all the statues to gain new items? It may come from one of them. But it has to be created at a great forge.
I double checked. It’s the first great forge (Narvi) and requires 6 Steel Ingot, 6 Silver Ingot, 1 Black Diamond, 8 Ubasam Wood.
