I'm gonna be honest, I have a strong feeling that the brain worms left a lasting effect on Barriss that eventually made her want to turn against the Jedi. I know her motives had nothing to do with the worms but thinking about the extreme mental pain she was going through while that thing was in her head, as well as the nightmares she probably had afterwards, it likely gradually encouraged her to start looking for a place to put her fear and anger, and she chose the Jedi order. She probably felt betrayed that the Jedi and the Republic allowed something that horrible to happen to her, one thing lead to another and she eventually just turned.
Her Master likely played a major role in her turn, Lumnaria was shown to be a very atypical Jedi, who like most Jedi fell back on their old adages a LOT. Adages that while good, became more and more at odds with reality, and over time became just words rather than actual helpful advice or reassurance. Basically, the war was dragging on eating up lives, and no amount of "trusting in the force" was helping, confronting Lumnaria with these concerns likely resulted in yet more adages till Barriss finally just started internalizing things till she turned.
I honestly feel bad for Barriss. Serving under someone as ultra-strict and detached as Luminara Unduli, despite being at an age where the need for a mentor with a deeper and more understanding connection is so crucial, had to have been so incredibly draining and even traumatizing. She was expected to do the work of a full Jedi, yet was treated like a child all the same; the part where Luminara has her memorize an entire underground cavern but still tells her in a demeaning manner to introduce herself is proof positive of it. With Anakin and Ahsoka, the argument that they're having when Luminara and Barriss arrive is actually a good thing. It means Anakin treats Ahsoka like an equal and creates an atmosphere where she's able to speak her mind without fear and knows that what she has to say is valued. On the other hand, Barriss was just expected to keep her mouth shut and put whatever concerns or ideas she had out of her mind, simply because she was the Padawan - an inferior, someone whose thoughts and feelings were invalid compared to her master's, and if she ever said anything about it she was almost certainly belittled and brow-beaten into submission before being disregarded entirely. Taking all this into account PLUS the fact that she was effectively a child soldier who spent years in high-stress combat areas getting shot at, blown up, buried alive, frozen alive, and possessed by alien parasites, it's no wonder Barriss fell to the Dark Side in the way she did. Luminara just kept bending her further and further until the strain was so much that she whipped right back without care for who she hurt, hence why she framed the only friend she'd ever made for her crime. Barriss never learned to truly think and process things like an adult; she was only ever treated as a child, and so she lashed out like a child. It's a genuine tragedy in my opinion, and a perfect small-scale example of the same problem across the entire Jedi Order at that point in its existence that eventually drove Anakin to the Dark Side and brought about the Jedi's destruction.
Very well said. It truly is a tragedy how Barriss ended up deciding bombing the Temple was the best course of action. Exactly!! Everything she said was 100% true. The Jedi HAD become an army fighting for the dark side, the chancellor was LITERALLY Darth Sidious and the jedi played into his hand when they decided to involve themselves more into politics and essentially Crown him their king.
My brother and I discussed a bit about the jedi order and he also came to the conclusion that any jedi with the slightest sense of reason turned against the order because they saw their wrong doings. She's a good example of that.
Thanks for this compilation. I find it interesting that when Barriss is infected with the parasite, Ahsoka decides to do what she can to save her... but when Barriss decides Ahsoka is "infected" as a Jedi (12:57), she decides to do what she can to destroy her.
"I did it. Because I've come to realize what many people in the Republic have come to realize. That the Jedi are the ones responsible for this war. That we've so lost our way that we have become villains in this conflict. That we are the ones that should be put on trial. All of us! And my attack on the Temple was an attack on what the Jedi have become. An army fighting for the dark side. Fallen from the light that we once held so dear. This Republic is failing! It's only a matter of time." "Barriss Offee was wrong about a lot of things. She let her anger cloud her judgement and she tried to justify her actions without considering their wider effects. She was afraid of the war and she didn't trust people she should've listened to. But she had a point about the Republic and the Jedi. There was something wrong with them, and we were too locked into our traditions to see what it was. Barriss should've done something else. She shouldn't have killed anyone, and she definitely shouldn't have framed me for it, but if we'd listened to her, really listened, we might have been able to stop Palpatine before he took power."
She wasn’t wrong though, the republic was a failing system which only benefited people in the inner rim. People out of the colonies ring of the galaxy suffered from anything imaginable, and the republic did nothing to stop it UNTILL the clone wars where it was only to fight the CIS. Barris was a individual who probably wanted to leave the order.
I wonder what Barriss would think of people like Padme, who clearly showed that there was still some value in the Republic's ideals. She could have served as an alternative way on how Barriss could have approached her way on how to show the Jedi Order that they were going the wrong way. But alas, it was not meant to be.
4:52 "It's not that I gave up, Skywalker, but when the time comes I will be prepared to let my student go. Can you say the same?" 'Oh definitely. I will be SUPER ready and trying to murder her. Can't let go more than that, right?' "Wait, what?"
Why would she be an inquisitor? Her entire arc in S5 was that she hated what the republic was becoming. Why on earth would she join the thing she bombed the temple to protest against? Not to mention all inquisitors were more or less wiped out by a new hope.
It still amazes me that almost the entire Jedi council could have a face to face meeting with Palpatine, the dark lord of the Sith, and yet they're completely unsuspecting of him. Like 🗣 "He's right THERE!"🤦♂️
Barris warned them 5s tried to tell them Maul predicted it Until then, it was far too late. Obi-Wan and Anakin should’ve went to Mandalor and brought maul back to Corosaunt and make Sidious choke up the answer
Jedi Master Luminara Unduli was unexplainably absent in "The Wrong Jedi". Her young Jedi apprentice Barriss Offee was responsible for the bombing of the Jedi Temple, but Luminara Unduli wasn't present at Ahsoka Tano's trial.
It makes me laugh when Anakin tells Barriss that she should have gotten rid of Ventress’ lightsabers. Like why is he giving her advice on how she can not get caught 😂
@@fighterck6241 I think your reading too much into my comment. It’s obvious it’s too late. I just think it’s funny how he said it. As if he is giving advice even though it’s not. Always makes me laugh.
I know Luminara was arrested and then killed and used as bait for other Jedi but do we know what happened to Barriss during or after Order 66? We can either assume she joined the Sith or she was killed in her cell where she was locked up. I would just like confirmation as to what happened to her.
I personally like to believe that living most of her life as Luminara’s apprentice and dealing with her expectations was partially what broke Barriss. The war and seeing all the atrocities only radicalized her even further.
Just Jedi, pieces of crap, who fought in politics and many Jedi died... I think Barris and Dooku knew about the loss and therefore wanted to do better, but they realized that it was useless and it was better to turn to the dark side and act on their own . Dooku betrayed Kenobi, and Barris betrayed Ahsoka.
I honestly hate what clone wars did to Barriss, Character assassination does not even begin to cover it. In the original lore before Dave came along with his sledgehammer and retconned it Barriss was a peaceful Jedi healer who disliked violence so much she refused to partake in harming other sentient life. If she truly had an issue with the Jedi and the war she would stage a peaceful protest and not murder her fellow Jedi.
That is understandable, but I do believe this version of Barriss is infinitely more interesting. We have plenty of jedi pacifists and force healing is already.. divisive. I think there’s an incredible amount of substance to glimpse from Filoni’s iteration of the character - personally I see it as an improvement. Barriss was a nothing character before who, at most, was skilled in a plot hole.
Not sure if this is a miss by the production but at 11:15 Grievous clearly says ,,Greetings Jedi". Meaning he sees multiple Jedi there and Anakin is present. So Anakin would know how Grievous looks like
Well considering he was able to kill two worms that were centimeters from Padme's face without harming her, he should be able to stop himself from harming Bariss if she didn't react.
@@CC-ii1sy that was his strategy, taking her only weapon to defend herself and "strike her down", but his intention was to stop his blade in front of Barriss' face.
@@uncomentarista3103 People seem to forget that with The Force enhancing their senses, Jedi can do some very "impossible" feats, especially when they're super strong like Anakin learned to be. He gained Focus, he needed to prove that it was Barris. So as you said, he'd likely have stopped his lightsaber short of making contact.
I think it's unrealistic how after realising that suppressing emotions is bad she doesn't reach for help to someone she can trust (Ahsoka) and instead just turns on her I feel like her character arc would be much more interesting if we got to see something like a real honest conversation between her and Ahsoka where Barriss calls Ahsoka to join her
Imagine coming up with her arc “So for this character with less than a minute of screentime in the original movies, how about she is tempted by the dark side of the force because of her doubts of the Jedi order.”
I really liked barriss. She was my second favorite character in this show below ahsoka. I was sad when they made her evil. However i it still didnt stop me from My interest and liking to the charecter. She is rather interesting. Im sure we will get answers to her fate either in the bad batch series or the ahsoka series. In the original skript it was written that barriss took her life in season 5. But Dave filoni scrapt that and changed it because be specifically said that he has plans for the character of barriss offee. Really looking forward to seeing her again weather evil or good. Hoping he redeems her. It would be cool to see ahsokas and barriss relationship be redeemed in some way. Either way will see.
Wish Barriss didn’t turn to the dark side, she was a good friend to Ahsoka 🥺 but she deserved to be executed to death for betrayal our favourite Jedi Ahsoka
I understand that Barriss is believing that the Jedi Council believes in is violence. But framing Ahsoka for a crime that she didn’t commit? She’s a traitor, and a monster.
I doubt someone with her high skill in the Jedi arts would've been used as an inquisitor. She defeated Ahsoka and Ventress who were seen as adversaries to the Sith. I won't be surprised if she was executed instead of Ahsoka
My big question since rewatching in my young adulthood and having more understanding of the star wars political world. If Ahsoka was presented with the only outcome being execution... then why was Barriss just offered imprisonment...😐 like.... does anakin finding her out have the deciding factor If she lives or not? And Ik ik palps was excited to see ahsoka die so he coukd be closer to anakin and whatever but... like... idk I still love barriss as a character but why not the same punishments?
@@diplocolus1439 my question is, why in the trial, did Tarkin and the others think penalty of death was the best punishment for ahsoka. But after Barriss made her case on why she did it, she doesn't get the same punishment. Which we know she doesn't because episode three exists thankfully. Why do they get different charges?
Can’t say I have a good answer. My guess is that since Ahsoka had her charges changed the same was done for Barris. Since Ahsoka was found guilty but the evidence was a bit shaky, the verdict rested solely on the Jedi council. With Barris, there was irrefutable proof and her certainly being the culprit may have caused people like Tarkin to be more involved in the verdict, hence her imprisonment. I know I’m grasping at straws, but that is my guess.
@@diplocolus1439 I just don't get why they decided ahsoka should have the death penalty and Barriss just gets to go sit in a cell. They were literally going to the ends of the earth to make ahsoka pay. But eith barriss, we see everyone go "ooooh we messed up this one." And palps just goes "take her away" and she walks. No death penalty, no nothing... I get the story and writing but I just wanna know if in bad batch or something we can see more?
We will most likely find out in bad batch show or star wars ahsoka, dave filoni specifically said he had plans for her. So that to me says we will definitely see more of her and how she ended up. Hoping we see her in the ahsoka show. Would be cool to see how she survived.
Windu: There aren't enough Jedi to protect the Republic. Windu In Geonosis: Did not wait for Clone backups, jumps into actions and get 80% of the Jedi kills right then. Windu if he isn't insane: When was it the Jedi responsibility and in the codes to protects the Republics in the first place?
Barriss was right about the order. I feel like she had really just growned disillusioned and frustrated with the whole clone wars and the corrupted Senate. She felt like she was going crazy the way no other Jedi seemed to share or acknowledge her concerns. I understand entirely where she was coming from. It seems to me through her fighting and temper that barriss is naturally a bit closer to the dark side than the average Padawan, which possibly inspired her acts of terror. Regardless, great character. And sidebar, she whooped Ahsoka's ass lol.
Barris didn't know about the order, if you're talking about order 66... She saw many deaths that the war made worse and the Jedi were no better than the same separatists, so she accepted the dark side and perhaps framed Ahsoka. Her goal is definitely to destroy the republic as well, as I understand it. great barris like Dooku and Anakin who also wanted to accept the dark side and betrayed their allies
It would surprise me, the inquisitors are known for not being very strong, most of them never even made it to Jedi knighthood. Bariss has been shown to be very skilled and experienced, heck she was in the battle of geonosis and survived despite only being a padawan.
I hope that Barriss will be team up with Thrawn, Morgan Elsbeth and Gideon after the liberation of Lothal. We will see Barriss heals Thrawn with the Force Heal
@@cupcakemcsparklebutt9051 because Barriss will appear in Ahsoka series once for all and we will see her for the last time when Barriss told at Anakin and Ahsoka that Thrawn is back for Revenge before she died. So we will see star wars Rebels season 5 where Barriss heals Thrawn after the Libération of Lothal teaming up with Morgan Elsbeth and Moff Gideon that are the remain loyals imperials of Thrawn respect that idiots of Pryce and Kostantine
Maybe we get a Barris Offee Cameo in the Ashoka show, I dont want her as an inquisitor though, Barris feels far more of a complex character than to fight for another violent group that causes harm. I think Barris is one of those middle characters neither good nor bad
Necessity. Anakin and Ahsoka were placed in charge of the investigation and after they captured Letta Turmond, who had helped Bariss, who then requested to see Ahsoka herself, there was no other option for Bariss. She didnt mastermind blaming Ahsoka at first, she was just the safest and most obvious person to blame. After that it was just making sure people would believe it, so she framed Ahsoka to seal the deal.
@@morgankeegan7880 to be more specific she just chose ashoka to get the trail off her back she didn't target ashola randomly its because ashoka was questioning the prisoner that was about to say her name she had to make it look like she was the guilty one.

It's only a matter of time."
"Barriss Offee was wrong about a lot of things.

Jedi Master Luminara Unduli was unexplainably absent in "The Wrong Jedi". Her young Jedi apprentice Barriss Offee was responsible for the bombing of the Jedi Temple, but Luminara Unduli wasn't present at Ahsoka Tano's trial.
May have already been a knight by that point. She was older than Ahsoka and already a Padawan at the first battle of Geonosis.
@@fighterck6241Yes, Barris Offee was a jedi knight at that point of the story (trial)

You can hear some of the imperial march when they are fighting. I find it interesting that it seems Darth Vader came out when fighting her.
Not sure if this is a miss by the production but at 11:15 Grievous clearly says ,,Greetings Jedi". Meaning he sees multiple Jedi there and Anakin is present. So Anakin would know how Grievous looks like
i keep forgetting that Barris is a knight and not a padawan
Like Obi Wan
Same. I was very surprised when she could hold her own against Anakin.
Anakin: But, there’s only one way to find out
*Kills Barris*
Oof seems like she wasn’t the one
Well considering he was able to kill two worms that were centimeters from Padme's face without harming her, he should be able to stop himself from harming Bariss if she didn't react.
Classic Vader
@@CC-ii1sy that was his strategy, taking her only weapon to defend herself and "strike her down", but his intention was to stop his blade in front of Barriss' face.
@@uncomentarista3103 People seem to forget that with The Force enhancing their senses, Jedi can do some very "impossible" feats, especially when they're super strong like Anakin learned to be. He gained Focus, he needed to prove that it was Barris.

She's such an interesting character, no idea why they gave up on her
She could be potrayed as the exact opposite of Ahsoka, The fallen Padawan
“If there’s one thing we clones know, it’s how to stop a Jedi.”
I don’t think that was just because of the worms.
hehe *foreshadowing
I think it's unrealistic how after realising that suppressing emotions is bad she doesn't reach for help to someone she can trust (Ahsoka) and instead just turns on her
I feel like her character arc would be much more interesting if we got to see something like a real honest conversation between her and Ahsoka where Barriss calls Ahsoka to join her
I hope we get to see her in the Ahsoka series. She played an essential role in Ahsoka leaving the Order.
I think it's cool that the same voice actress for Luminara also voices Morgaine LaFey in the Justice League cartoons
Imagine coming up with her arc
“So for this character with less than a minute of screentime in the original movies, how about she is tempted by the dark side of the force because of her doubts of the Jedi order.”

And Ik ik palps was excited to see ahsoka die so he coukd be closer to anakin and whatever but... like... idk I still love barriss as a character but why not the same punishments?
But... she wasn't executed in the end, just exiled. Or do I not understand the question correctly?

But after Barriss made her case on why she did it, she doesn't get the same punishment. Which we know she doesn't because episode three exists thankfully. Why do they get different charges?
Can’t say I have a good answer. My guess is that since Ahsoka had her charges changed the same was done for Barris. Since Ahsoka was found guilty but the evidence was a bit shaky, the verdict rested solely on the Jedi council. With Barris, there was irrefutable proof and her certainly being the culprit may have caused people like Tarkin to be more involved in the verdict, hence her imprisonment.
