Stephen Spielberg stood up for you in 1972, Whoopi. Just thought you'd like to know. You were famous for being the most talented person in Hollywood who was "never going anywhere". Spielberg said, "now, that's stupid!" and aided your career, standing up for you when you could not stand up for yourself. I am very proud of Stevie for that and thanks for my models in some of your movies (Texas).
Let's call a thing a thing and stop mincing words. He stood up for her when dark-skinned black women with more ethnic features were not allowed to work mainstream.

@@film79 She was working dinner theaters, and she was such an obvious talent that her "impossible situation" was lamented generally. People did not seek change, they merely accepted evil. Spielberg made changes happen, it's why he is so beloved to this day in Hollywood. He spearheaded new freedom, new opportunities for people who previously had no chance at all.

If I need a really good cry I can, to this day, pop in a Blu-ray of either E.T. or The Color Purple and bawl my eyes out. Seeing these two ladies together brings back such magical childhood memories. ❤️

Oh my goodness. I forgot about *"Boys on the Side"*, and also forgot that they acted together in that movie. That is a good movie. If Drew never mentioned that she visited the set of *"The Color Purple",* I would have never known. Just like I didn't know Whoopi wrote a letter to Alice Walker to be in the *"Color Purple".* If I'm not mistaken, Whoopi has never acted before that movie. She was a stand-up comedian before she became an actress. I also have *"The Color Purple"* on VHS that was also given to me by my mother.
