As a teenager living in New Cross, I had several mates in Hanlon Street Deptford where Billy, Harry's brother lived with his mum & Dad! There was 'Spud' Taylor & 'Brocky' Townsend!. We met in a cafe off Deptford high street! Bill was a tough boy you didnt cross, but Harry was a bit older and had a soft side. He was married and had a little boy? He was good to me and gave me some work helping him trucking. But the best times were me and the boys playing 'skiffle' at their parties! I was there at Billy' wedding. They were tough times in the 50's but there was a sort of honesty & friendship we all had as mates! I am 82 now but will never forget those days!

I knew Brocky Townsend well, he lived in Hanlon street same as Harry and Billy, l lived just round the corner in Windmill lane. Brocky was older than me l was about 14 years old. I recall us jumping on a bus travelling to Lewisham where Brocky had a job cutting grass with a power cutter on a housing estate. I kept him company and he kept me supplied with cigarettes. When l got home l was as sick as a dog. The band he was in was on television, l think it was the Carrol Levis talent show or something (lm sure i've got that wrong) and Brocky was very funny with his answers).It was Brocky who got me into country music. He had a party at his house and Billy was there with a girlfriend and one of the hounds went into her handbag and took a cigarette. , l won't go into details but it was a bad mistake.
Anyone remember Kiwi Keegan? Spud Taylor and Brocky Townsend? All young mates of Harry and his brother \Billy. They had a skillfe group that played at the Haywards parties.
