NORDIC HERDINGCALL - Welcoming spring with kulning
Вставка
- Опубліковано 18 жов 2024
- In Sweden we call it "Vårskrik", which is a way to shout out your happiness when spring arrives. And this is my way of welcoming this new beautiful time of the year.
I recorded this video only 3 days ago. It was such a beautiful evening and the air was so fresh and the swans were flying above me and all the birds were singing loudly.
This time is truly magical.
I went to some different places in nature and did some kulning (ancient nordic herdingcall) and then mixed it into this video/song. If you listen carefully you will here that every place have different acoustic. The forest and the lake was my favorite.
After the coldest May in my entire life, the spring is now officially here!
And I am so deeply happy for that.
I really hope you liked this little song!
THANK YOU FOR WATCHING! ♥

This makes me so nostalgic and I'm not even from Sweden
Yuki Kuran I’m from Sweden and it makes me nostalgic too lol even though I’ve lived in a big southern city my entire life. Makes me want to travel the 16+ hour journey up north and see the scenery and nature for myself
I feel the same. It's like something deep inside is calling to us.
The same for me. I even live in a tropical country I've been living here my whole life but when i whatch this video It makes me feel like if in a part of my life lived there and somehow I miss it
It's your past life calling you...
Passionwriter19 exactly 😊
Jonna can sing an entire song without any lyrics and everyone understands her perfectly

Yup, a skill I wish we all had.
The cows know the Lyrics... 👍🏼 🐄 😉
That is so true. When she sings in another language, I can understand her perfectly! She as such a beautiful voice!

Music is the only understanding that transcends language.
I don’t have any Scandinavian roots, but seeing this feels like I’m being beckoned home. I hope to see it one day once this is all over.
Same here, I wanna live there, 😢
Me too mate😂😂

Your lovely voice sounds like the call of fairies and elves in the midst of the beautiful Spring forest. 🌸🦋✨
You belive my girlfriend
Yea, and for someone who might be in that forest far away will probably think that too on hearing that amazing singing.✨
Just want to add that my corgi (a faerie dog by folklore) responded with the very first call.
@@ravenmorrigana1093 aw.
I am reduced to tears. The landscaping looks so intimate and home-y. Like I've been there before.
Now imagine just exploring the woods. Hearing this, you start to follow it. You see a beautiful girl, you tried to approach it. But she disappears into thin air. That’s magical
*Afriana Lost* lay off the drugs buddy. 😉
I would shit my pants if i heard that alone in a forest
So basically any fantasy movie
That's scary

She'd be summoning dinosaurs.

@@iforgotmyname1669 imagine the flight of a pteredactal from another lifetime to ours while her singing this
perhaps she has (:
Imagine walking around in the forest and hearing this, you'd probably think there was a siren or fairy calling out to you, absolutely love it
I would first think that I'm either dead and in heaven, or that I'm hallucinating. Then I would realise that another human is making this sound and it would make me extremely happy
Exactly!
I would expect to see the white wizard, coming from the east on the third day charging to aid Aragorn in the Battle of Helms Deep. Only to realize that J.R.R Tolkien wasn’t documenting reality when he made the books.
that's exactly how it feels! happened to me once and i almost thought i was going crazy
Yaboy Lindus yes, I heard a herding call, by someone in the forest
Jonna, I feel that you have become the voice of Mother Earth...
And we all need to listen.
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️💚
Yess!!
@Il Postino why are you so mean. I hate people like you, people that just want to make everything toxic and bad.
Mihaela Be I’m not sure if they meant the middle finger or not or just a pointing finger
She's like Gaia, the Greek Goddess of the earth
My grandmother called the cows every evening. Several years ago I found Jonna' s videos and understood what I was hearing, it is unbelievably beautiful.
One of my grandmothers also called Holstein dairy cows for milking every evening in a similar way. Neighbors thought she was nuts for singing to her cows but the cows came running.
@@oscargrouch7962 😮 so is it the pitch or training
@@StoopidMonkeysMomma Training and experience. Train the oldest cow to come when called and the herd will follow. Eventually they would come to the barn for milking without being called if my grandmother was busy doing something else and lost track of time. In that case, they would impatiently stand outside the barn and moo to call her to let them into the barn for milking.
The oldest cow was the leader of the herd. Wherever she went the rest of the cows followed. If she died the next oldest cow would succeed her as leader but the successor would be trained by her predecessor to go to the barn for milking. (If the successor did not lead the herd to the barn for milking my grandmother would stand at the barn calling while we teenage and young adult grandchildren went to the pasture to "drive" the successor to the barn until the successor learned she was supposed to come when called and bring the herd with her.)
Female cattle, deer, elephants, goats, sheep, horses, rhinoceroses, whales, and other herding mammals have similar matriarchy. The oldest female knows where the best grass, water, and shade are from experience and the younger females and calves follow. (I watched an animal show in which each year an elk would lead her herd to the warmer, sunnier south slope of a mountain in the winter and to the cooler, shadier north slope in the summer.)
Young adult males form bachelor groups and hang around the fringes of the herd waiting for the mating season. Bachelor groups are normally peaceful until the mating season. Then heck breaks out.
I love the way you live!!!
Side note: I watched your rock balancing video, and I finally pulled it off!!!
I sat out in the cow fields behind my house and grabbed a few stones.
It took almost 20 minutes to balance the first rock. After I got that one, I managed two more!
Then, as I was walking away, I heard it tumble over.. One of the cows decided to sniff it 😂😂
Haha wow thats great to hear!! :) ❤️🙏
Wow that’s awsome!!!
ahhh!! how awesome!! I really want to try this someday!
So Beautiful

Oh this is just so majestic and beautiful. The song makes my heart yearn for things I don’t even understand. It’s like I’m looking for my soulmate, who doesn’t exist. I’m sure it resonates differently with everyone and that’s a really incredible thing. Welcome dear spring! Thank you Jonna 🌱🌾✨

Just watched Frozen with the Kids. After watching Jonna's videos I noticed, that in the scene where the Fjord is freezing, you can hear Kulning. I love that Sound.
When Elsa calls for the voice is also kulning
The singing works on people too. It brought me here😊😊😊
Where????
This is beautiful. I cried and I had goosebumps. I want to be free. I long to be in nature. When I was a child, I asked to myself, why don't I see trees here in my place? I wanted to have a forest near our house but there's only house after house. I'm sad because I'm longing for nature but it's not accessible here where I live. That's why I was so happy that we've gone to a mountain trekking. I felt connected again. But I didn't wanna go back home. Until now I long for nature. Though I have plants and some trees here and I appreciate them but it's only few. I want to be running free in the woods like you are Jonna. Make a living out of my passions and just be free... in nature...
Oh how wonderful would that be😌💖
Thank you for your videos Jonna.
You're the best and my number 1 favourite UA-camr. No doubt. Your videos kept me going in life and fight for me to be where I need to be. Thanks for inspiring us and somehow, connected with nature even though it's just behind the screen. Thank you💖
You'reUnder Agreste this I feel you! It is just like that for me. When I am not in nature the longing grows so strong that my heart wants to burst. But it is too far from the city. I want to step out the door right into the landscape. At least now I work on making this dream come true.
Your like me. I long for nature but I live in a suburban house. And I want to live on a property with a pine forest.🌲❤️🌲❤️🌲❤️🌲❤️
It's weird cause I grew up in the mountains and all I wanted to do was to move to the city when I turned 18. Now days I miss sitting by the river with a fishing pole, my dog and some beers I stole from my dad.
I can feel you.I think about this almost every day.

I wish I lived at least one day in a place like this, breathing the fresh air, seeing crystalclean water, and endless skies, hearing the sounds of the forest and wonderful echoes... I feel like it could bring me alot of strength and inspiration and even change my life. Alot of love from Ukraine!
Hello from Belarus :)

Ah me too! I can only dream of living in a place like this! 😌😔
Jonna I wanted to thank you and tell you a bit about my story: I am Chilean and I studied a year and a half for my law degree exam and it was a real torture, the worst year of my life. Every day I felt that I was not capable and that I won't made it. But you were always there with one of your wonderful videos, I smiled and returned recharged with batteries to study with more strength.
Last week I managed to pass the exam and I am finally a lawyer and one of the factors to achieve it was the good energy in your videos.
Please never stop with the wonderful work you do. This year I will go to study english in England and I will visit Sweden of course, I want to see for myself the landscapes that I imagined watching your videos while I was enslaved to my chair on my study days. Now as a free woman 🥰
Thank you so much for everything.

Spring could not possibly resist such a beautiful invitation.
It’s like her voice is something out a fairytale that seems to inspire the imagination, all while soothing the mind and body. At some point I’m going to black out, and when I come to, I’ll be standing around her with all the rest of the woodland creatures and not know how I got there, nor will I care.
I’m American of scandanavian heritage and I never really thought about my ancestors until I found this channel and now I’m seriously considering moving back to where my bloodline is from ☺️so thank you

Come home white man.
I have Scandinavian ancestry on both sides of my family, and I do understand what you're saying. If I didn't have a husband and child, I would have moved there a long time ago. Maybe we'll go for a holiday, when this whole Corona-thing is over. But the rest will stay a dream forever, I fear.
If you do, don't forget to engage in traditions!
I just would like to know how to sing those swedish melodies to call the cows and to sing to the mountains, It's so beautiful!!!. How did you learn it?. Do you think you can make a video talking about it?, I would love it
Also would like to try learning this
Try making an ooooo sound. Then make it as high as you possibly can. That’s the sound you have to master
@@TheKruse601 I suppose it's about how long you can hold it?
I saw another Swede teaching on UA-cam how to do kulning, but her videos were in Swedish, and at a truly low audio until she started calling...I don't remember her name, but I believe that if you search "how to do kulning" something will come out. Still, if Jonna would make some videos explaining the technique (it's not so simple, since you have to create a resonating cavity with your mouth and nose, it's not just a ooooo sound...) I'd love to watch them too
Try searching for Maria Misgeld on UA-cam. She makes kulning tutorials in both English and Swedish
My swedish mother used to call all 6 of us kids home this way every evening for dinner as we were always scattered throughout the woods. ♥
Wonderful way of calling children home ❤
A part of your voice speaks to my ears and makes me feel happy and light.....But the is a much deeper connection that seems to be made when I listen .....a connection between souls, where words are not needed....where just the sound of the voice is more then enough

Sooo beautiful words ❤️🙏 Thank you for sharing
@Anna Francisca weed was a gentle rebellion against an intolerable society in the '60's; we of the '70's smoked our lungs out as our statement of support, to keep the faith. Now comes a newer, older, freer way comes as the usual reign (trump) is exposed, no need to rebel against that victory....
Nature was once all humanity had, now we barely notice it.
I hope one day we could put all our problems aside and once again be with the only thing that truely matters, our fellow species and our enviornment.
I hope one day we could have more people like you.

As a child we used to do something similar when we wanted to “herd our friends together”, but we never knew it was actually a thing! Must have been the Viking ancestry in us Scottish/Irish-Scottish people coming out lol 😆🏴
But Scots and Irish are celts, not vikings

The Celtic language only came to Scotland with the Princes of Ulster and Dalriada, prior to this Scotland was predominantly Picts.

My Grandparents immigrated to the America in 1910 . By the time of World War 1 , my grandparents had become US citizens and Grandpa fought in France with the US Army ,, he was highly decorated , yet the war and its brutal memories drove him to drink . My mother was born in 1923 , but she and her brothers were not taught much of the ways of the old country . Grandpa died in 1947 and grandma soon after , My mother had little to teach us of their ways and less of the language .. Now she is gone and I have grown into an old man with nothing much to teach my grandchildren of their roots . Through old letters and a few relatives in Sweden , I have told them what I can .. I somehow hear the familar voice of my true heritage calling to me through your beautiful words .. We will all soon be together again and then I will learn of who I really am .. Thank You so very Much Miss Jonna
This is the importance of knowing your own culture ! ! !
