- Unboxing and Installation video of the Harley Davidson Black Dial Analog Speedometer/Tachometer on to my 2020 Road King Special. Actual installation was very easy and straight forward. All the function of the stock speedometer and more was available with this new combo speedometer/tachometer. I bought this part from New Castle HD. The guys there are awesome and are very helpful. I highly recommend getting your parts from them.
Easy to read on the road. With just a glance, I can see the time, the gear I am in, how much fuel I have, Speed, tach without having to click a function cycle button. Plus, I can customize the display color too. Very happy with the purchase and ease of installation.
Indicator lamp includes:
Traction control
Cruise control
ABS
Vehicle hold
Rear cylinder idle disable/enable
TPMS Low tire pressure
Rain mode. (Shows word RAIN in text display)

they are nice but can I turn off the bright yellow ABS light ? What is the little red light under the tach. why does it only come on once in a while what does it all mean ???? help
The yellow ABS light should turn off after 2 seconds of riding. If it is not turning off, something is wrong. I would take it in to service to have it looked at.

Did you have to plug it into the data port to transfer your odometer?
Not sure what you mean by Data port? There is only 1 connecter on my 2020 RKS. The instruction just said plug it in and start driving. After 31 miles, the speedo/tach will become "married" to the ECU. I plug mine in and the existing mileage just appear automatically. I did not do anything extra. Exactly what you see in the video.
I believe older bikes needed to be plugged into the data port first.
@@rtabcum i just bought this. Instructions say to disconnect the battery. Did you disconnect the battery or the main fuse?

Yes. The gear indicator works great with the new gauge.
Any issues with functionality of RDRS? I've got a 21 RKS and plan to order this soon.
No problem so far. Be sure to look up the Gauge on HarleyDavidson website before purchasing. They have many revisions of the same gauge but not all are compatible with the more recent release of the bike. Good to verify to be sure.
sweet spedometer ... QQ: is the gear indicator displayed in all modes/menus when you cycle through them ? Definitly would love to have a gear indicator displayed at all times ...
Sorry it took awhile to get back. Been busy with work...Quarter ending. Answer is YES. The Gear indicator show the current gear number on every modes/menu. It only disapears briefly when clutching in or in neutral. When in neutral, the Neutral LED indicator comes on instead.

Can you change the background light color? Looks great
You can change the fixed dial number color independent of the LCD display back-light color. The needles can also be set to a different color.
Does anyone know if this speedo will work on the police version road king?
I would suggest you call up Harley Parts Center near you. They should be able to answer the question right a away. Good luck.

Hi there. It is quite easy. There is a configuration menu to setup the colors you want.

My bike is an 07 softail springer classic. Is there something I need to put on the tires to pass the tire pressure info to this speedometer? Or how will it read the pressure?
Please check with the Harley Davidson Parts department to see if they can retrofit the tire pressure sensor. I am not sure myself.
Do you loose the blue cloud symbol for rainmode on the new speedo you bought?
Well, yes and no. The new Speedo/Tach does not have the BLUE Rain mode indicator but it instead has the word "RAIN" show up in the text display. So while the rain mode is activated, the word "RAIN" shows in the text as you are driving. I will create a video showing this in action as soon as I get some time.
@@rtabcum thank you for sharing this, just ordered for my 20 rk standard and couldn’t get a answer on the rain feature from Harley tech support on if it supported the rdrs or not.

I'm looking to add this to my bike. Do the colors cycle like that everytime you turn it on ? Is there a way to turn that off and just display the color you choose when you turn it on?
Yes it does cycle during bootup and at first was a bit annoying. Now I don't even notice it. You can choose the color of the display backlight, the needle and numbers individually. However, the color cycling at the beginning is always there.

@@rtabcum thank you. Do you still think 1100 lb is good for the Road King Special? Do you feel the bike is balanced when you use it?
It does the job when needed. The weight is near the limit, but I was able to use the center dolly for many projects. I don't raise the bike high. The bike wheels are never higher than a couple of inches off the ground. It's not very sturdy. The dolly is very useful for maneuvering the RKS around in the garage. Have to grease the worm gear often.
Do you have to take of the main fuse fir doing work like this? Is there a procedure to take off the fuse? BR
The manual recommends taking the main Fuse off. I saw a big Fuse located in the left cover. However, I personally did not remove the fuse.
I followed the instructions exactly and did exactly what you did in this video. I rode my bike around a lot yesterday, and the Traction Control light came on, but my 2020 FLHR Classic does not have RDRS. I’m very confused. Ever heard of this happening? I’ve found one other post about it online, but there are zero solutions that I’ve seen.
Mine actually has rdrs and have not see the problem. I would recommend you take the bike to the dealer service center and have them look at it. Its a model 2020 year and should still be under warranty even if you upgrade the speedo/tach yourself.

I’ve talked to the dealer and they said it’s in the menu of it to get ride of the traction control light I have yet to do this
I just installed the same speedometer. Did you have a problem with it being loose and moving around? I snapped the red piece in, but I can still move it around. It's like the rubber seal isn't thick enough. Any suggestions?
Strange. Mine is tight. When I snap it in, I had to press it to snap it on. Was pretty tight.
did you transfer the rubber ring from the original?
Nice Vid, thanks for posting. Do you have the part number for this? On HD's site, the picture looks different. Like you, i have RDRS and want to make sure those features show up on the gauge. Do you plan on doing anything to the left tank side original fuel gauge?
Partnumber that fits the RoadKing Special with RDRS is 74776-11D. No plans for the fuel cap yet.

Would this work on a 2018 softail slim?
There are many different model of this same Speedometer/tachometer. I would consult with the Harley Davidson Parts department to see which specific model will fit your bike. They all look similar but are not the same.
How did you get it to show your tire pressure?
The 2020 Road King Special come from factory with the tire-pressure feature. I did not do anything special other than install this combo sppeedo/tach Gauge.

Anyone know how to get the fuel light to stop blinking ? Also on mine it is not showing the fuel bars to indicate how much fuel is in the bike. And the bike does have a full tank of gas
Hi Mark, I would recommend you take it to the Service Center to have them run a diagnostic. Definitely something is not right.
@@rtabcum The previous owner of the bike installed the speedometer I noticed he also removed the original fuel gauge and disconnected the wires from under then tank…I wonder if this would be why it’s not working correctly ?
@@Mark-oj7yt Not sure because I don't believe the stock gauge is required for the Speedo/tach to read fuel level . If you can get your hand on the electrical wiring diagram from the bike it would help. I don't have one unfortunately.
@@Mark-oj7yt I realize this is an old comment and you probably already figured it out by now but just for those who are barely installing one and have the same issue. According to the manual you have to cycle through the different options and turn them on manually. That includes the gas meter display.

Can you add RDRS (abs, traction control, hold, etc) at a later date? Or does that need to be ordered at the time of purchase?
According to the dealer where I bought the bike, they said it can not be added later. There is just too much involved.
t goodfellow That’s ridiculous. I got one in May and was told there wasn’t a black one w/ RDRS anywhere in the country. I had them do a tin swap and change the original title and paperwork to match. It was a pain in the ass because they wanted to charge me for the swap. I refused to pay extra for a black bike. I’m glad it worked out the way I wanted.
I'd like to mount this unit above the handlebar 2022 RK Standard to provide better line of sight. Would need a longer wiring harness. Do you think the stock harness can be extended by soldering in the appropriate length splice? Or would that not work because of CANBUS wiring? Could result in an expensive mistake.
Is there a Version for europe available for a Road King Special MY 2020?
I believe they make it in Kilometers too. Check with the Harley Davidson Dealer.
RT California thank you for this Information. As you are the only one I‘ve talked (written 😬) with a 2020 Modell, do you have any problems with sumping or oil transfer? I would like to know if these problems are still active with the 20’s Modells. How many miles do you have on it? Regards
Not enough miles to really tell if there is any transfer. It does have the primary vent fix installed from factory. I'll post a video later.

@@rtabcum They do offer it in Kilometers too. They even offer one that is both Kilometers AND miles which is the one I am looking at installing since I do plan on riding into Canada and Mexico when all this covid stuff is over. I have a 2019 RKS
