18:25 so if you put Sonic in a microwave and turned it on, he'd instantly start healing? Wow, microwaves can do anything - charge your iphone, warm your chili dog and heal your hedgehog.
I highly disagree with the Insta-Shield placement, for one major reason: it absolutely decimates bosses. The invincibility frames and extra range completely nuke pretty much every boss in the game. Plus, you can easily defeat enemies like Orbinauts with no issue. It goes in A-tier for me.
The Insta-shield is a pretty fun and unique power. That part of me so wish it was back in 3d games. I do see why that's not really possible, and the problem/downside mostly comes from the range. Like it's almost non-existent. Tho I do remember a fan-game Sonic Island which induce the idea of bringing it back and it was made more suitable for it. Almost like a AOE kind of attack.
I feel like the insta shield is only really useful/fun in Sonic 3 where there are a lot more spike enemies and projectiles. Playing with it in Mania isn't as interesting because it isn't as applicable
@@Chaos.A Yeah, it's a really fun ability in Sonic 3 because the game was built around being able to use it if you're skilled enough. That doesn't translate well in games that aren't designed with that ability in mind.
@@melon6444 Yeah. That's why I put it at A-tier and, in hindsight, could fit into high B-tier. It's pretty much useless in the Advance games. It's still fun to use in Generations and Mania, but those games clearly weren't designed around it like 3 was. Also, fun fact: Mania didn't even have the extra range until update 1.04 (the one that added the Plus features and revamped the menu).
We also could have had an alternative reality where sonic 0’6 and rise of lyric weren’t rushed and colours and generation’s writing would have been as good as the gameplay.
His power to make people negative is the most powerful weapon that he gained in the 2010s. F tier for fun factor, but SSSS tier for utility and lorepower.
@@VirtuousAezon Sonic 06 was just a single bad game, it may have permanently worsened the franchise's reputation but it didn't single handedly ruin the franchise's characters and stories like the 2010's writing did
The team blast also has an extra effect afterwards. For Team Sonic, Sonic's homing attack and Tails' Thunder shoot is powered up for a few seconds. Team Dark stops time (probably the worst one honestly because it also stops the level so doors and fans wont work until the effect is over) Team rose, gets a level up, invincibility and shield and Team Chaotix get rings from the enemies they kill during the Blast.
The move by Team Dark is called Chaos Inferno and it doesn't just stop time, Omega gains magenta lasers and so wipes all enemies, it's a powerful move and those lasers are uncontrollable because Omega is tapping into the power of the Chaos Emeralds and so just imagine what it would feel like to fire a large beam of energy because these have alot of recoil, it's called a Chaos Power as the wikia lists many and that term fits it perfectly, easy to remember and understand.
The insta-shield extends sonic's hitbox though, so I think it should move up a few tiers. You can cheese a lot of bosses in S3&K because of it. It also increases the effectiveness of badnik bouncing
He makes the insta shield a defense mechanism but it’s so much more it has increased range and it makes sonic able to get through enemy defenses without getting harmed. It is essentially without alternative sources of strength one of the best attacks it’s super helpful and I so wish it was held on for one more classic game
Insta-shield is definitely one of my favorites. It's overpowered, and it's sometimes difficult to use, but that's rare. Sure, sometimes you forget it, but eventually you get used to it, and it's so op...
Here's a tip: you can turn the Peel Out into some sort of super Spin Dash by immediately pushing down once you let it go. Don't hold the direction while using it, because running in Sonic 1 (and CD I think) has a strict speed limit that the game slows you to if you're pushing the pad to run.
You missed the gravity control ring power up from Sonic Riders Zero Gravity, something that can easily be an *S* tier. As long as Sonic has enough speed to gather air he can freely manipulate gravity and he can turn any object around him into a weapon and turn himself into a weapon on the same level as super sonic, as long as he has over 100 rings he can stop gravity and use the object attack quite a large number of times and he can turn himself into a weapon for nearly a minute straight. But not having any rings at all doesn't matter because the power is unconnected to rings with rings only bossing the amount of time you can use the manipulation. And all that to say as long as he is going fast to collect air this gravity manipulation is freely recharged.
Ark of the Cosmos and Gravity Bands (for those who dont possess an AOTC), Gravity Control is an ability because there's also Gravity Dive and Gravity Ring, you can use GC when moving towards the GR and enter Gravity Dive but it's also like Meteor Burst, I found out you can use GC to instantly enter GD/MB when entering these Rings and it's on one of my videos.
@@mnew4325 If we're gonna speak of the story, it's so good and Knuckles has his moment to shine in the second game, they literally had him leading his allies to Gigan Rocks and helps decipher the ancient inscription, I really miss that tbh.
It's not Air, it's Gravity Points which is Gravitational and Kinetic Energy that the Bands use to convert into Power, Wave even explains this in one of the cutscenes.

I never expected you to rank double boost in A tier, for me it's a mediocre C tier for how strong it is in terms of the story, but also how flawed it is in terms of gameplay
11:58 This is pretty obscure, but it was mapped to a single button in Sonic Heroes. After performing a Team Blast in Sonic Heroes as Team Sonic, using an attack that involves Sonic like Tails’ Thunder Shoot or Knuckles’ Fire Dunk or inputting a tornado attack near an enemy as Sonic, Sonic will light speed attack all of the enemies in his range. It helps for clearing another wave of enemies that you’d encounter after the wave you just used it on, like in Robot Carnival and Robot Storm. In Heroes, I’d put Light-Speed Attack in B Tier
I really like how Sonic can use the Pico Hammer when teamed up with Amy in Sonic Advance 3. If you pair them together it is called "Lovely Couple" and Amy has hearts around her while following Sonic and standing still.

Something to note: The Light Speed Attack usually works better if you're moving in the direction of the enemy, as it affects the movement of Sonic just enough to properly hit enemies consistently
I learned this about a year ago, but Sonic Heroes actually does have SA2's rail grinding mechanics! If you hold the B button down, they'll crouch on the rail, and you'll have to balance the characters to maintain the absolutely insane amounts of speed that you gain. It can be pretty tough to balance though, especially in some of Rail Canyon/Bullet Station's Picasso-ass rail segments. It makes dodging the last laser on Final Fortress a breeze.
Why have Wisps when you can actually use Sonic's friends as playable characters instead? Why have the OC when you can actually use Sonic's friends as playable characters instead? I miss Sonic's friends...
@Xavior a power-up is something that helps you beat a level, much like the Elemental Shields of yore, though they are not necessary to beating a stage. But when you need to use Wisps to clear a stage, it feels more like a gimmick rather than a power-up, or that's how I see it. Plus there's no real narrative reasoning for them to continue to be around as apposed to say the Chao, who actually live on the same planet as Sonic, unlike the Wisps. Ah, Chao, now there's another long forgotten thing from the games...
@Xavior what am i playing again sonic or mario mario uses power-ups sonic does not even lizuka said we wanted sonic to have power-up like mario they even said lost world was made for nintendo fans so 2010s are mario stories for sonic mario power-up for sonic and zavok and other like mario stop being like mario more important THE STORY must be amazing action not mario like childish and if see lizuka say the next sonic games lost world 2 cuz of nintendo fans then you know what sonic fans are going to say to lizuka
@@fazelfarrokhi1998 I feel that faker, Classic, is pretty much like trying to turn what Sonic used to be like into Mario, which makes him come across as more of a bad tribute act when compared to the real thing. If we could combine the depth of rail grinding from SA2, with the more reliable additions of easy rail switching (from Shadow onwards) and being able to homing attack towards a rail, that'd be freakin great. Though you would have to make the crouch a bit more manageable. I could never get it right unless it was a straight way down.
Personally, I wish rail grinding worked more the way it does in Tony Hawk (or even Jet Set Radio). What I mean is, rails in Sonic games have gradually just become little set paths that you transfer back and forth from. What I want is for Sonic to use the ENVIRONMENT to parkour around, not just go into "ride rail mode" and sit passively while he waits to rech the other end. In my dream game, Sonic would see grindable surfaces everywhere. Going downstairs? You could always roll down the steps, but if there's a handrail going down the side Sonic could grind it like a skateboarder would. Or say there's just a long bench, or an above-ground flower bed or something. Holding a button could send Sonic grinding down the edge like in Tony Hawk, preserving his momentum and playing in moret o the premise that Sonic views the world like an oversized playground. I dunno, grinding in its current form is awesome, don't get me wrong. I just want it utilized more often (and more organically) than it generally is.
It's nice to come back to this video. Chaomix:"And the drop dash should show up in future games and even the 3d ones". And now,we can drop dash in Sonic Frontiers. By the way,Love your videos! Keep up the good work Chaomix👍!!!
Watched it from start to finish. You've delivered plenty of fantastic videos, but this one takes the cake just for the enormous time and effort that clearly went into this. It was a pleasure to be of aid with making this. Keep it up! *Blue Blurs for Life!*
Secret Tip for Rail Grinding in Sonic Heroes... You actually do gain speed for holding the B button, not mashing it. It's actually wildly fast. I didn't discover that myself until I 100%'d the game last year and learned how to properly dodge the laser cannons of Final Fortress.
Considering how the power of friendship/teamwork was used to get past obstacles in forces, Team Racing, and heck SA1 demonstrated it. If that isn't a sign of infinite meta-physical power source in this franchise I don't know what is.
The sad thing for the double boost is, it doesn't matter if you keep spamming the button it's still going to activate the attack no matter what because that's what the game creators want to have, working along with Sonic
That claim isn't actually too outrageous, the "sneeze" is actually a scrapped ability called "Sonic Sense". A bit like Spidey Sense with Spiderman, Sonic sneezes whenever he senses danger.
The only time I've ever had use out of the Light Speed Attack was with that one Artificial Chaos enemy in Crazy Gadget that spawned a fuckton of mini-ACs. That was so satisfying to use.
While I'm not good at it, I love the Insta-Shield purely because it raises the skill ceiling for the games it is in. The better reaction time you have, the safer you are as Sonic, and I think that thematically that is exactly what Sonic should be like.
21:27 Correction: This transformation requires the Dark Fake Emeralds. They will increase Sonic's negative emotion until he gets consumed and then turns into Dark Sonic. The Fake Emeralds are said even by their own creator to be inferior to the Chaos Emeralds, and are only used to power machines. With that mind, the form is weaker than Super Sonic. Still, he defeated with not much trouble two robots that have equivalent status of Sonic's base form, so he is still a good boost. Still deserved B tier despite all that.
I know I'm super late but something you forgot to mention about Sonic Heroes is how you can use the Light Speed Attack after doing a Team Blast. after you use it the Team Blast bar will slowly drain, but while it drains you can use an instant Light Speed Attack as Sonic by just pressing B mid-air. idk if this would affect the Team Blast or the Light Speed Dash's position though
Sorry, just wanna ask: Being as unbiased as possible, wouldn't hover wisp be ranked closer to the light speed dash? (Same for pink/spike and spin dashing, only I'd actually argue it's better than the OG move)
Magic gloves are wierd but can be useful for getting rid an annoying enemy from a distance. City escape has a beetle drone with an electric shield that blocks the stairs at a certain spot. Magic gloves get rid of that enemy so I don’t have to wait for his shield to drop. It’s also how you’re supposed to defeat an artificial chaos floating over a bottomless pit in cannon’s core.
Insta-Shield should at least be A tier, it can dodge most attack be used to defeat some enemies without taking damage, it can help you to defeat bosses, it is pretty easy to get the timing down, and it can be very satisfying to use. If you can count the times you've purposely used it on your hands, then in my eyes, you're playing the game wrong.

Fun fact about the light speed attack in sonic heroes: after using the team blast, sonic can light speed attack while the bar on the top right is going down. You have jump and instantly press b and he’ll light speed attack any enemy around him. Also, another fun fact about sonic but when his actual boost was first used in any games of sonic: the boost was used in the special stages/emerald stages of sonic heroes and only way to use it is to collect little colorful orbs press b and he’ll boost. So sonic heroes brought the boost into sonic games actually, but sonic rush use it in the actual game itself.

The Super Peelout has an upside of instantly taking you to top speed and being able to maintain it. If you spindash on a flat plain that speed is going to quickly run out. This doesn't apply to the peelout
The Super Emeralds are either recharging or non-canon. Either way, imagine how powerful Sonic would be in Hyper form now that he knows so much more about Chaose Energy and Chaos Control.
The super emeralds were added for the people who bought sonic and knuckles after beating sonic 3 as a "thank you for buying both halfs of the story enjoy this op ability as your reward" which is pretty creative but im not sure about them being cannon despite them being refrenced in mania.. maybe you have a point with the recharging maybe sonic just never thought to bring the chaos emeralds back to the master emerald to super charge them again... or maybe he has ptsd of the blue spheres special stage lmao
Rememeber when sonin had wind powers? Me neither, we, sega, sonic team, archie, idw ian flynn, paramount We all forgotted that and decided to give him generic electric speedster powers because yes
Fun fact: Hyper Sonic is a fusion of the S3&K Shield Abilities. The directional jumps are based on the mobility each shield gives, mainly behaving like the Flame Shield, the lack of drowning is from the bubble shield, and the screen nuke... is actually from the thunder shield, when entering water! It's a interesting detail that I don't think enough people notice!
21:26 I hate to hit pick but Sonic DOES seemingly use the Chaos Emeralds to access his “Dark Form”. The room he was in when the form appeared was filled with fake chaos emeralds and the anime made it clear the false emeralds were having a strange affect on him. Combine that with the negative emotions he was feeling in that moment and you get Dark Super Sonic.
One thing you got wrong about Dark Sonic: It's not just caused by the anger Sonic had, it's also caused by the fake Chaos Emeralds that was in that episode.
I know the wisps are kinda annoying, but I highly disagree with the placement of some of them. Ghost, Asteroid, Drill, Rocket and maybe laser deserve to be at least B tier or higher
It's only really faster than the Spin Dash overall if you're playing the original release of Sonic CD, where the Spin Dash is not really fun to use, because it takes like 3 or 4 full seconds to charge up, unlike Sonic 2, 3, and pretty much any other 2D game with the ability, where you can charge it up faster. In the Taxman version, they give you the option to use the Sonic 2 spindash which is infinitely better.
No disrespect, but instashield is an expert thing. Not saying you aren’t ( from what I’ve seen, you are great at playing) or that I’m an expert (I make really silly mistakes often) but you can use it against orbonauts and stuff to get score up in combos. It has other environmental effects like breaking the monitors incased in ice in ice cap without losing speed. The instashield is used for score and keeping your flow without slowing down. It can also eviscerate most bosses, which makes them a lot more annoying. The short time for the attack is part of balancing it. You can also just pass through some attacks, like the frog’s little ball and chain in launch base. It’s also just really satisfying to pull off.
Something I found while playing Sonic Heroes is that the railgrinding mechanic does actually function very similarily as in SA2. Holding the crouch button instead of spamming it while going down a rail will net you higher speeds and you also still need to balance to go faster. Spamming the crouch button only really helps when grinding on level rails. It doesn't really change the tier list, I just thought it was a lesser known fact about grinding in Sonic Heroes and wanted to share my findings (after Sonic Heroes, however, spamming is the only viable option for gaining speed)
Yeah, this is true and something I learned about over a decade of originally owning the game. Shame that the game doesn't do a decent job at teaching this at all, since not knowing about the balancing mechanism was the reason why I used to hate Rail Canyon and similar stages.
@@QwerpOS agreed, it is also the reason I would never finish the game because of the last laser in Egg Fortress which always seemed to hit me, because I lost so much speed while spamming. The first time I held crouch, that level was a cakewalk

The peel out, although still not super amazing, does have an advantage you didn't seem to notice. Where as when you spindash, the ability ends as soon as you jump / leave the ground. After doing a peel out, as long as you keep the input held down and don't have to stop, the ability continues and you can just keep going with max speed.

@@pmcc14 S tier.
you hit max speed by holding a button

Yes. That's why I like playing the older games.

Secret Tip for Rail Grinding in Sonic Heroes... You actually do gain speed for holding the B button, not mashing it. It's actually wildly fast. I didn't discover that myself until I 100%'d the game last year and learned how to properly dodge the laser cannons of Final Fortress.
Hyper Sonic is honestly my favorite ability to play as. It makes it easier for me to chill out in sonic 3 & knuckles without penalty. Nice video dude.
Considering how the power of friendship/teamwork was used to get past obstacles in forces, Team Racing, and heck SA1 demonstrated it. If that isn't a sign of infinite meta-physical power source in this franchise I don't know what is.

Correction:
This transformation requires the Dark Fake Emeralds. They will increase Sonic's negative emotion until he gets consumed and then turns into Dark Sonic.
The Fake Emeralds are said even by their own creator to be inferior to the Chaos Emeralds, and are only used to power machines.
With that mind, the form is weaker than Super Sonic.

I think the designs for the Custom Shoes in 06 look wicked as hell and the Skill Ring just looks so cool.

"60 Sonic Abilities"
Sonic Frontiers: 💯+

This doesn't apply to the peelout
yall ever notice that sonic inherited all the powers of the elemental shields in the classic games?
@@nakulemonadekitsune204 sonic, in any situation involving looking at himself spin dashing; AHHH- oh wait that's just me, right.
@@shadowsnake5133 yes omg lmao
Rememeber when sonin had wind powers?
Me neither, we, sega, sonic team, archie, idw ian flynn, paramount
We all forgotted that and decided to give him generic electric speedster powers because yes
Gen z: actually the spin dash was first in sonic 1
Millennials: bruh
Fun fact: Hyper Sonic is a fusion of the S3&K Shield Abilities. The directional jumps are based on the mobility each shield gives, mainly behaving like the Flame Shield, the lack of drowning is from the bubble shield, and the screen nuke... is actually from the thunder shield, when entering water!
It's a interesting detail that I don't think enough people notice!
it doesn't magnet rings though
@@Fafr true, but that would be incredibly OP.
Also, technically Sonic Lost World had its own version of the Drop Dash before Mania did.
8:13 that sound effect in the song syncs really well with sonic insta-shielding that bullet
oh i should probably let you know that Indigo Asteroid is extremely broken in Lost World 3DS, I'd put it in B
That intro had me creasing lmaoooooo😂
One thing you got wrong about Dark Sonic: It's not just caused by the anger Sonic had, it's also caused by the fake Chaos Emeralds that was in that episode.
Can’t watch rn but I’ll be back later-ish
Or tomorrow
I know the wisps are kinda annoying, but I highly disagree with the placement of some of them. Ghost, Asteroid, Drill, Rocket and maybe laser deserve to be at least B tier or higher
The peel out has 2 differences than the peel out.
1. It can’t be reved up like the Spindash.
2. It’s faster than the Spindash
@@SpeedyBlur2000 well there are not many other games that you can use it
No disrespect, but instashield is an expert thing.
You forgot double spindash from sonic 4
But that game is forgotten so its OK
I thank you for this video, now I have the list of Sonic's abilities for me to use during my fanfiction writing
the beginning lmao
Parkour was in Sonic Heroes since some Speed characters could wall cling/wall jump.
Sonic/Shadow can wall cling in SA2 as well
26:32 .. THAT SOUNTRACK I REMEMBER FROM MY CHILDHOOD OMG !!! MY FAVORITE FROM SECRET RINGS !!! ITS SO FITTING FOR DARKSPINE SONIC ! One of my favorite Sonic forms !!
I didn’t even know the drop dash existed
The peel out, although still not super amazing, does have an advantage you didn't seem to notice. Where as when you spindash, the ability ends as soon as you jump / leave the ground. After doing a peel out, as long as you keep the input held down and don't have to stop, the ability continues and you can just keep going with max speed.
*Super Emeralds tho I think hyper emeralds woulda made more sense
Homing Attack was first introduced in Sonic 3D Blast, when grabbing the golden shield, Sonic is able to Homing Attack enemies nerby or stomping down when not lock-on onto enemies
Am I high or did he miss the wall jump?
He did, and thank god I wasn't the only one who realized, been looking through so many comments. Mans brought in so many random abilities and forgot one of the essentials.
