Got this in today as a curious throwback, same small size and glad I did as yes it totally has soap vibes. Cool-water came in too, that one brings me back to the older kids at the skating rink. Now CK1 that one hits home, lol.
I'm sure that I tried Dakkar Noir at some point back in the day, but I have no memory of what it smelled like. For what it's worth, I do like that Dial Gold soap smell. 😆 One of my all-time favorites is Calvin Klein Obsession For Men. I'd be curious to know if you've tried it and what you think of it.
Wore it as a kid and 20s. My woman now is worldly, sophisticated and worked at C level and although I buy her Tom Ford, she LOVES Drakkar and buys it for me. She could buy me whatever she chooses, I don't actually care. If you didn't know it was Drakkar on a man and you were out somewhere, you'd have a different take. No, it doesn't smell like Dial soap btw.
Drakkar smell very manly. I asked a executive suited man awhile back what he was wearing and he said Drakkar. It smelled so good, I call it MANLY👑....I love manly. That's just me☺️
Love DrakkarNoir, My favorite cheapie. Try Dior Eau Sauvage if you haven’t already. It’s another old school classic. (Not to be confused with that garbage Sauvage)
So I got a bottle of this stuff based on CurlyFragrance's review - and why not, the stuff's cheap - and this smell is INSTANTLY familiar to me (I'm 50 in Oct.). It's certainly not a sexy smell by itself, but that may very well be because of the differences in how society views masculinity these days vs. back in the 80s. This stuff smells like what it was like when it was OKAY to be a man! And the type of guy that I see wearing this is not the playboy... good looks are always nice, but this smells like the guy you'd call "ugly-sexy," because though it's not a sexy smell, it would certainly smell right on these guys - thinking Sylvester Stallone, Harvey Keitel, Mickey Rourke and Michael Madsen, to name a few. Dress shoes, suit pants, button-up collared business shirt, tie, suspenders, no jacket. This could certainly enhance their edge, because masculinity is what gives them that appeal. NOT for someone under 35. And I definitely did get the hairspray vibe right after applying (btw... my god... don't spray more than twice!!) but that dissipated within minutes, so wasn't very off-putting for me. Once it did, you get an acrid, green/rugged pine-like soap scent in the air as you described, with all the mishmash of floral scents hanging very close to the skin, but definitely there if you come in close. All in all I did like it, but yeah, this could certainly turn on you if you spray too much.
Wow the comments left no meat on the bone on this one LOL. I only want to add that considering its a male fragrance from a time when there were no unisex fragrances to speak of and masculinity was in its heyday (Miami Vice, Tom Selleck, Hassellhoff etc,) maybe a woman wouldnt find it appealing to wear?
I love DK. I remember when it was guaranteed to get you laid by the end of leaving the disco. I smell it now and it isn't much different than Brut, but it's still nice. I'm wearing it today, in fact. Love the stuff and couldn't care if anyone else does.
I have been watching your reviews for awhile now, and two fragrances I think you should try out from when I was younger man that got me many compliments. Lagerfeld classic and Lagerfeld photo.
That was an interesting "Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde" kind of review, Erica. Seems like you loved the smell of Drakkar in the beginning of the review, then over time ended up disgusted by it...
A fragance that defined an entire decade. Not the same anymore but still has that (dna) in it, when it dries smells better. She can shit on it, but is not the same fragance that once was.
This is not for the younger type that might be accustomed to today's blue/ fruity fragrances. This was back when fragrances were made to compete with a room full of cigarette smoke. It's old school testosterone in a bottle. Her description is spot on for a younger audience. It might be too much for a younger guy's target audience.
The original formulation might have been "manly" but the reformulation smells like shaving foam. I don't pick up any oakmoss at all (thanks to the bureaucrats) and barely any lavender. It smells better if layered with old spice aftershave.
It's the wrong thing to spray on paper and immediately give a rating. 😊 Of course that doesn't smell like anything. Spraying it on your skin you will smell completely different and refined scents. And especially after the dry down, which can take a few hours, you should consciously pay attention to this. Would your conclusion be different. 👋😀👍

Love DrakkarNoir, My favorite cheapie. Try Dior Eau Sauvage if you haven’t already. It’s another old school classic. (Not to be confused with that garbage Sauvage)
Yeah, but you can put 50sprays on your shirt and no one will smell it...weak af
I don't get all the hate in the comments. Everyone asks for genuine opinions, but when someone does it, you complain about it... I don't get it.
You should give Ted Lapidus Pour Homme a review. Another classic 80s powerhouse..👍👍👍
😂😂😮💨😮💨😮💨
Disco?
You have to wait about 30 mins after you spray it on...believe me makes a world of difference
Yeah but that only leaves you 30 more minutes lol
Cerruti 1881 would make for a good review. My favorite inexpensive fougere.
I have been watching your reviews for awhile now, and two fragrances I think you should try out from when I was younger man that got me many compliments. Lagerfeld classic and Lagerfeld photo.
Lagerfeld Photo is long gone. My current Unilever bottle isn't close to the original Photo I bought when it first came out.
👋😀👍
i have a dupe of Drakkar Noir ; LOMANI Pour Homme and don't like it that much neither.
i have quite a few fragrances within the same realm but, IMO, the best smelling fougere/barbershop scent is easily YSL Opium pour homme.
..the price of it is not 'easy' though.
Clean, soapy and fresh smelling masculine power
Drakkar Noir is power!
My favorite perfume in late 80"s through 90's. I bought another one around 2010...but not as strong as the original thing...not sure though why.
Because the restrictions on using oakmoss forced DK to be turned into a shaving foam fragrance whereas the OG was mossy and more natural smelling.
One of my very favourite fragrances from the 80s
I am 44 and not bragging or something but really masculine guy. Athletic, 6ft1, beard and moustache. I only learned about Drakkar the last month. Only today i bought a set of 100ml, gel and deodorant. I ll have it 3-4 days. Thought to give it a try after all these good comments. Hope it will suit me.
@@keziahdelaney8174 it has been toned down somewhat since I used it in the nineties. It still smells like it used to but it is weaker.
I now swear by the Chanel house. But there is one and I am wearing it now
i love this scent too bad it lasts like 3 hours thats why i use it as a aftershave , i got myself al rehab dakar its a clone of drakkar noir with much better preformance . if you want too try another good scent try bijan for men .
You should try ( lapidus pure homme ) it's classic too
It's missing that "spice" or underlying "heat vibe" to balance everything out compare to the original just like an old tune remake missing the warm speak easy vibe from the good ol' days. Too much treble and mids but lacking some warm low running bass frequencies from the blues days.
Drakkar Noir was great when it first appeared because at the time this fragrance had no peer within it's price point. Over 40 years later, not so much. Thanks for doing a retrospective review, need more of them out there. Many "old school" scents can still be purchased online.
I am a vintage fragrance lover and i am just in my 30s! Try ted lapidus pour homme, it is my favourite! Then kouros... 😅😌
I need to try them!
@@eauderica you would not like kouros for sure... 😅
I just started using it again, younger woman say they like it
Crazy ladies 😂
I rocked drakkar 40 years ago in my late teens, mid 20's...
🤌🏻🤌🏻🤌🏻
Polo sport was a safe everyday for a young man in the 90s probably be able to find still, keep up the
Not only was it a go to in the summer for me, but that Polo Sport beach blanket that came with a purchase in Macy's back is still in my collection!
Try Rogue Perfumery Bon Monsieur if you want to smell what Drakkar Noir smelled like "back in the day."
Damn it, where can I find that Green soap of ur dad here in Chile??😢
I wonder what eau D'Erica smells like
The best scent will be on the skin, not on paper. It's the chemistry.
