Yes mate great video! I've thought the same thing about Arsenal borrowing specifically from Basketball for set pieces ever since that the one post match interview Saka gave a few years ago when he and Ødegaard did the free throw celebration. It's cool to see you put it all into words and with all this research.
Thanks, means a lot! I also think the basketball celebration isn't solely to do with set pieces but also to do with constantly moving the ball in possession. However, I always noticed our approach to set pieces seemed massively different from other teams and couldn't help but draw the link. Glad I wasn't the only one ahaha
dont say stolen dont say someonoe deserves all the credit. Its a team sport Put some respect on Artetas name Put some respect on Arsene Wengers name Put some respect on Arsenal
I'd be interested to see an analysis of how this works out against hybrid or full zonal marking systems during set pieces, since both examples shown are predominantly man-marking defensive set-ups. This set up seems fine in scenarios where you believe your attacker will win the one-on-one with the advantage created by the off-ball movement, but over the last few years we've seen teams deploy hybrid zonal marking that mimics the sort of thing you see in the offensive lines in American Football. Teams that do this will often put smaller, agile, less aerially dominant players in the man-marking roles not to engage in an aerial duel, but to play as blockers for the runs the attackers are attempting to do. They then utilise their aerially dominant players to clear the ball being delivered whilst the man-marker stifles the attacking threat's attempt to reach the ball. I'd imagine Arteta and co. have something else up their sleeve for that, but it'd be interesting to see what that looks like.
