I'm not a fan of Frollo's stage presence during hell fire. He should have stayed more true to the actual emotions depicted in this song. FRollo is scared of these feelings. He fears God and it is shown in the movie at least that he is terrified of his lust for esmerelda. Despite that, wonderful job though!!
For people saying that hellfire was over the top. Keep in mind this guy (Frollo) is damning a girl to hell. Threatening to burn her alive if she doesn't choose him. So personally I feel like over the top is just the kind of thing this song needs.
***** well remember that in the original novel Frollo was the archdeaon of the Notre Dame De Paris church. So because in the novel he was a high priest basically he would have had ceblicay laws which meant he couldn't have sex.
+Cereal Chaser The actor playing Frollo in general is a bit more angry than the movie version. You can see it all the way from the first number in his part in "Bells of Notre Dame." Though a more reserved version of Frollo, similar to the movie, would have been ideal, this one plays it fine.
I used to live in a town like that but moved on and kept trying for better and better opportunities and I've had some great experiences, love every day of it, and will do this for a long time to come.
😀I LOVE this rendition of "Hellfire" & the sound of Judge Claude Frollo's singing voice. Beautiful voice. I could listen to it every day. Please keep it on UA-cam forever & don't remove it at all. It's a keeper 😀😉😁
Everytime when Frollo appeared my thoughts were: "Jesus come down! Are you on a rage trip or what?" Don't get me wrong, he has a good voice, but he just seems like Frollo is not evil but simply has a huge anger issue in this show.
Aww, come on! The whole reason Phoebus decided not to burn the house down was because he knew Frollo was going too far and he wasn't going to hurt the innocent for the sake of obeying orders. Not because he had goo-goo eyes for Esmerelda. But still, this is an awesome production. :D
I don't think Frollo captures the song very well, I know he must be doing his own take but if he's doing a theatrical performance based off a film, you think they would actually, make the best song (Debatable I know) stand out and true to the original?
I agree. Having just come across this, the guy is too stiff with his overall performance. He didn't allow himself to truly absorb and feel the emotions that the character Frollo was intended to feel.
Its a lovely version of one of my favorite Disney movies, but I feel as if the cast is a bit too big. I understand giving everyone a chance, but with that many actors, the stage gets clogged and it rather takes away from the story their trying to tell. On a positive note, I did like the dancers during Heaven's Light. That was pretty.
Piplup88908 You do bring up good points, and I agree with you on them. There are reason in the script for having a big cast. There is however a matter of staging, which everyone does differently. How you stage a musical changes one's perception of the size of the cast. If that makes any sense. It can make a small cast seem big, and even spread out a big cast. Having multiple levels, like they had in this production, can help it seem less cluttered.
Jesus, so many people in this comment section are going off on the guy who played Frollo. He did pretty good in my opinion, and this is a school adaptation, it is not professional. I don't even think these KIDS are getting paid or anything. This guy is following his passion and doing a pretty damn good job at it, y'all need to cool it.
@@MovieEnforcer Yeah, but to be fair it is a school performance. It does look pretty high budget though, so they probably could have done a wig or sprayed his hair silver.
The funny thing is, because this Frollo doesn't look like a man in his 60's/70's that the animated version made him look like he was I could actually see this Esmeralda and this Frollo actually making a cute couple, they don't look too bad together. XD
Well, the main difference is, he's performing for an audience that's up to hundreds of feet as opposed to performing for a camera that's right in his face.
JRod527763 But it kinda got to the point where he was rushing transitions into other verses, integral moments where he could have used for a rest or dramatic tension. He had a good performance, but there were a couple moments that could have uses work
JRod527763 Yeah, that's true, but I'm among the people who feels like it doesn't need to be this way. I would love a performance on stage of this song to be subtle, small and still really intense. Hell, I'd love to be the one doing that! It's probably on my bucket list.
Aww I was a big fan of the movie but this has kind of ruined it for me. Not the cast, but I think the writers made a mistake of using Clopin to narrate EVERYTHING. Come on.
MikesRambles in the actual version everyone except the choir are dressed in robes and in solos or in small groups they narrate and at points the actors playing the roles talk about themselves in third person, in this production they must have chosen to have Clopin narrate it
purplehaze2250 I know... Original: And let her taste the fires of hell! Or else let her be mine and mine aloooonnne.... be mine or you will buuurnn!!! Him: ANDLETHERTASTETHEFIRES OF HELL!!!!!!! OR ELSELETHERBEMINRANDMINEALOOOOOOOOOONNNEEEEEE!!!!!!
Hmm...though for Broadway... Is it wrong if I can see Norm Lewis maybe getting the role of Frollo? Just asking, since he does have a powerful voice? Not saying he'd be the FIRST guy to play him, but in a different Broadway production.
It's not wrong at all! Norm was King Triton in The Little Mermaid on Broadway. Casting based on talent and skill rather than look is a very admirable trait. Ethnic actors don't need to be delegated to u/s or standby when they're already right for the role, just because the source material was completely white. Especially when it would have no real bearing on the story.
Sierra Nelson Thank you. Plus norm was GREAT as Javert, so having him playing Frollo, who's as complex as him in his own way, could work greatly. ...Plus the idea of him singing 'Hellfire' is kind of cool when you think about it.
ShadowDJ94 Norm *is* Javert to me. Seeing Russel Crowe in the movie just seemed unnatural. And I agree, having him as Frollo seems only too appropriate.
Thanks for your interest in our show. It was a privilege to produce The Hunchback of Notre Dame on our stage. Audiences loved it! We received a license from Walt Disney Executive Studios to premiere the English version of Hunchback. Disney has held a workshop of this musical for a possible run on Broadway and is going to produce the show in California first. Our director, Mr. David Snyder, recently returned from NYC where he helped to cast talent for the new show. We have also been told that, in the future, Disney will be offering licensing for other school and amateur theaters.
@TKAWPB was this particular production "mostly" based on James Lapine's book from the German production? Because I noticed the inclusion of "In the Court of Miracles" in this version wasn't present in the German production. As well as the omission of "Balancing Act" & "Out of Love"
From what I've seen of the European opera version, it was just that - an opera. The actors come to the front of the stage to sing and stay. I guess they kept some elements in.
After I found out about HoND production in Germany, I've looking for an English prod of this, and I gotta say, this is pretty impressive, especially for a school production. I was just disappointed, why isn't Phoebus singing? I mean he's supposed to sing in the musical version... Also, the song "Esmeralda' (the act break/ final song in this video) is chopped into bits that it doesn't sound so good to me, I just wished you paid attention to that because it's my favorite song from the musical.
I personally think this performance had amazing potential, I just wasn't too fond of the guy casted as Frollo. Lacked musicality and his acting/body language wasn't too great. Good job, though!
The rendition of Hellfire left me with an amazing amount of chills! Wow!!!
His voice doesn't match the song or the character. Great voice though.
i agree!!!!
+Chloe S Would've been great if maybe he'd walked among the dancers, no?
I think he needed to kind of move around more and his voice sounds really young but Frollo is portrayed as an elderly man with white hair
in the original story frollo is quite young
Everyone being harsh on the song and the person playing Frollo: he's not a professional. he is CLEARLY doing his best!
Keep in mind It might just be the direction. He's good but not great.
For people saying that hellfire was over the top. Keep in mind this guy (Frollo) is damning a girl to hell. Threatening to burn her alive if she doesn't choose him. So personally I feel like over the top is just the kind of thing this song needs.

+Angel Savacool I think if he was more subtle in the beginning of the song, it would give more impact for when he actually sings about Esmeralda
These are some talented kids! Holy cow
The last note frollo and the choir sings brilliant
I wasn't expecting much, so I can say I was most pleasantly surprised with how you guys gave it your all!! Good job!
I would love to be play frollo, but I'm a girl.
I recently saw a really good young actress play Ralphie in A Christmas Story the musical and it worked really well.
Ralphie? Who's Ralphie?
Violet Piano That's the main character same as the movie.
oh, okay. Unfortunately, 99%of the ppl in my town don't know what HoND is.
I used to live in a town like that but moved on and kept trying for better and better opportunities and I've had some great experiences, love every day of it, and will do this for a long time to come.
Hunchback would be such a good Broadway musical.
check out Paper Mill’s Hunchback production
😀I LOVE this rendition of "Hellfire" & the sound of Judge Claude Frollo's singing voice. Beautiful voice. I could listen to it every day. Please keep it on UA-cam forever & don't remove it at all. It's a keeper 😀😉😁

I like the addition of ballerina dancers with the lit up dresses during “Heaven’s Light”, made it even more beautiful.
Frollo is suppossed to be a dark baritone or a bass, not a tenor. Good performance, though.
Oh my god, I am in love with the guy who played Frollo! He is so amazing!!! =D
thesilversupporter
He was a’right...
absolutely fabulous!
This Hellfire live was so amazing. Frollo certainly is the most evil live villain in my opinion.
I loved Heaven's Light, but I thought the dancers were unnecessary and drew attention away from Quasimodo. They were lovely though.
Aww, come on! The whole reason Phoebus decided not to burn the house down was because he knew Frollo was going too far and he wasn't going to hurt the innocent for the sake of obeying orders. Not because he had goo-goo eyes for Esmerelda.
But still, this is an awesome production. :D
phoebus's reason here is a little more accurate to the book, but still i agree.
Wow! The voices are amazing. The man who plays Frollo is exceptionally talented :)
They should’ve had the girl who played esmeralda dancing in a fire like dress to represent it like the movie still amazing performance
Such strong voices!! i first saw Phantom, and it was amazing!
Its a lovely version of one of my favorite Disney movies, but I feel as if the cast is a bit too big. I like the actor who played Frollo. But I don’t like his costume.
Frollo...Taking HAMMY to whole new levels!
Nadia Binford I like the actor. But I hate the costume. Also Frollo is supposed to be 50 to 60 years old. He looks younger than that.
@@MovieEnforcer Yeah, but to be fair it is a school performance. It does look pretty high budget though, so they probably could have done a wig or sprayed his hair silver.
My favorite song
This was a high school production. The oldest person in the show was 18. Pretty impressive huh?
The funny thing is, because this Frollo doesn't look like a man in his 60's/70's that the animated version made him look like he was I could actually see this Esmeralda and this Frollo actually making a cute couple, they don't look too bad together. XD
I dont get why people are so hard on it. The cast arn't professionals yet
frollo is a bit too theatrical for me, but then again it is a theater performance so what do i know
Well, the main difference is, he's performing for an audience that's up to hundreds of feet as opposed to performing for a camera that's right in his face.
JRod527763

Sandro Swen
Honestly, those songs are the best, with just enough power and quiet enough for the audience to get the message.
He's singing far too fast...
I know I'm late, but yes, that makes it cringe XD
So happy to so hellfire live! And done so we
THIS IS AWESOME
Aww I was a big fan of the movie but this has kind of ruined it for me. Not the cast, but I think the writers made a mistake of using Clopin to narrate EVERYTHING. Come on.

Beavis: "Hehhehehehe...hellFIRE! FIRE!! heheheh!"
damn i wish my high school did this!
Same here 😀😉😁
@ShadowDJ94 YES!!!! I could so see that!!!!!!!
great set but frollo could use some work seems like he's just shouting.
purplehaze2250
I know...

You guys do know he was a softmore at the time, right?
Good stage production. Half as good singing
Hmm...though for Broadway...

Rachel Ghoul XD
Hellfire!
The way Frollo says "...cast her spells" and "...the fires of hell sounds so
Dracula like castlevania
impresionante
MrBagginsEsq: Frollo, a bonafide nut? Oh, you must jest.
Brilliant! But I wish they showed the Festival of Fools or the Court of Miracles . . . I wouldn't mind seeing Clopin laugh.
I would love to be a part of this!
clopin is the best part of this
14:46 Correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't those supposed to be Phoebus's lines in the German version at least?
Yes. Weird how it was given to Frollo given this is supposed to be a trio song
I think this is a musical Longslade ought to perform someday.
pppft on We Will Rock You.
Quazimodo looks awkward here, but thats why it fits
How did you get the rights for this show?
Thanks for your interest in our show. It was a privilege to produce The Hunchback of Notre Dame on our stage. Audiences loved it!

The King's Academy, WPB, FL Didn't think this was available for production in the US.
He should have should more anguish and conflict in the song.
Leah Walentosky Yeah, he just sounded angry and stilted for Hellfire.
@TKAWPB was this particular production "mostly" based on James Lapine's book from the German production? Because I noticed the inclusion of "In the Court of Miracles" in this version wasn't present in the German production. As well as the omission of "Balancing Act" & "Out of Love"
Why does he say "Peata Marion"?
"Beata Maria" - Blessed Mary; his prayer is addressed to the Virgin Mary's intercession.
Tristan Lane Tony Jay is the greatest voice actor evah.
Straight White Cis Male Oppressive Shitlord yea...he says it weird lol
Shouldn't frolo move around?
From what I've seen of the European opera version, it was just that - an opera. The actors come to the front of the stage to sing and stay. I guess they kept some elements in.
PixarShark Operas more often then not have blocked movement.
cobwebkid n
I agree with nick. His emotions were to frantic wen performin. But he still did a good job
Jungle book fox and the hound the hunchback of Notre dame descendants kidz bop the movie music soundtrack
Amazing performance! But...Frollo's hat is missing.
After I found out about HoND production in Germany, I've looking for an English prod of this, and I gotta say, this is pretty impressive, especially for a school production.

The cuior sounds like the actual thing from the movy
Couldn't they find someone older to play Frollo? It doesn't even need to be an old man, just... not a teenager.
Why does Frollo keep saying Mari-A instead of just Maria?
Hi we are going to play Hunchback of Notre Dame but we cannot find orchestra full score .... could you tell me where to get it ? PLs help us
Does he say "SHE made the devil so much stronger than a man"???
You got to admit, this guy gets God and Mary mixed up. It is a possibility. Frollo seems like a bonafide nut.
how could another company get the rights?
this...
the guy playing Frollo tried to hard to sound evil
2:29/3:29. 8:53. 12:51. 13:18.
I personally think this performance had amazing potential, I just wasn't too fond of the guy casted as Frollo. Lacked musicality and his acting/body language wasn't too great.
Good job, though!
Does anyone know the song the priests sing?
I believe they're singing "Dea Culpa". It's Latin for something guilt-related.
They're singing the Confiteor or 'I Confess'. It's a prayer acknowledging one's faults and asking for forgiveness and forms part of the Catholic Mass.
They're sing "mea culpa" multiple times, which is Latin for "through my fault"
Aleah Grove
You'd think they'd sing "It's your fault" or something like that.
breeship Darude-youredumbstorm
I think its a school production....
frollo was far to fast in his singing shame he had a good voice
3:36 oh no this guy isn't
nope
I wish I could perform this at school or when I go to college on uni!
