Most of the best DC stories are out of the main narrative and are practically non-cannon. Marvel's best stories are crossovers and firmly within their continuity. It has always had the advantage of being a singularly conceived comic universe from the mind of Stan Lee in the 60s. DC universe was put together over a longer duration clumsily and is older and outdated to an extent. Hence Marvel universe feels more real and immersive. Marvel is a better run company overall and fans have long hailed it with the moniker "House of Ideas".
IMHO, only casual comic fans will say that DC is better than Marvel (most likely due to Frank Miller's Batman and Alan Moore work from the 80s). I've been reading most titles of the two companies since 2001 and I can honestly says that Marvel has the edge in comic books. I'll give the edge to DC in animation and video games (which were conceived with limited DC intervention).

Dark Knight trilogy actually has suspense. There aren't any predicable cliches, unlike all Marvel movies. It's still entirely subjective, however.

I do as well and have since I was a child but I can't stand by and let some of my favorite characters and stories get shafted in favor of boosting others. Marvel's been on this trip of promoting several other series but neglecting others in the process. X-Men is kinda dying now as it's not moving as much merchandise as it used to as well as the ongoing battle over the rights with FOX which isn't helping. Fantastic Four: we hardly knew 'ye. :(

It baffles me that DC has the animated film figured out, but can't get their movies to work out unless they have Christopher Nolan, Richard Donner, or Tim Burton directing them.

Except that part where it left those who watched it massively divided as to it's quality, writing, and if what we even saw was a Superman movie. Visually, it's great. It has some neat elements. I even like the cast. But about the only characters that felt right were Perry White and Lois Lane, though at times it fell off a bit for her. I was even willing to give the pass that "oh, well, he wont kill after this" but then beginning of BvS, we see him kill the guy with a gun to Lois's head - unless Snyder plans to retcon that that guy was some sort of meta that could withstand a high speed impact from a very solid 200 ish pound man, all muscle, focused on his chest and being driven through at least 2 solid walls. And with how easily they are led to think he killed those people, seems like more may have happened between MoS and BvS. Beyond "alien from Krypton" and powers that make him a demigod", it feels like the writers tossed out everything of the mythos and said "we do what we want". Raised on a farm in Kansas with two parents that cared for him and that he could always go back to for advice and keep him on the right path. Instead we kill off John via a twister and for some insane reason Clark doesn't say "f*** it" and save him anyway, not going into the rest of that writing, and Martha that basically comes short of saying "Save people, or just let'em rot, your call". Hopeful, uplifting, uses violence usually only when he has to and would rather talk it out and limit civilian casualties - Pretty much not a bit of that. He leaves Lois in a situation she should have died or at best been hospitalized for Hypothermia. And it only continues into BvS where it feels like "oh, you didn't like what I did, well, I'm killing Jimmy Olson, Mercy Graves, and making Lex a dweeb with daddy issues that's off his rocker."
It's only underrated by those who are in that vocal minority saying it's an abomination and the worst movie ever made, way more movies worse than it. It's not even the worst Superman movie, that belongs to Superman 4, solidly, that Snyder and his crew decided to borrow from for some insane reason. It's an okay movie, but I'm hoping that Johns position meas when we get the next MoS stand alone, and when we see Superman in JL - he actually seems like Superman.
Truly underrated in DC? The Schumacher Batman's. Thought of purely as a continuation to the Burton films, yeah, they seem bad and over the top to just down right goofy. Watch them like your watching the 60's Batman, their actually pretty good and there are moments when the actors have to be a bit more serious their on point. Much as I liked the first Burton film and the animated series, I also enjoyed reruns of the 60's Batman so maybe that, and time, are why I can see the good side to those movies.
Yeah a universe that gets Superman, and more importantly Superman's parents wrong is doomed to fail. He isn't some 4th string superhero that you can tinker with, he is THE superhero. Everybody knows him and everybody knows what he is about. When you get him wrong everyone notices and the films just seem....off.

How can you say not many people are interested in the Marvel series when they are consistently some of the highest rated shows among both critics and viewers? Video games is kind of a hard category because DC has the injustice series and the Arkham series, but marvel has ultimate alliance, the spiderman games, and the first marvel vs capcom games. But both have games that drag them down, mortal kombat vs DC universe for DC, and marvel vs capcom infinite for marvel

I like both Marvel and DC. However one major difference I find is that Marvel's character roster is well more balanced. DC on the other hand seem to mostly promote Batman and Superman while often ignoring it's other characters. Marvel fleshes out more of it's secondary characters, like Iron Man for instance who was alot less popular before the film came out. However, DC seems to ignore even major characters like Wonder Woman for instance. I mean she has existed since the year 1940 and yet we have had to wait until 2017 to get a major film starring her. Superman got his film in the 70's. Batman in the 80's and Wonder Woman's doesn't even exits yet. I mean Marvel can even make something as unkown as Guardians of the Galaxy a smash hit.

TheJoker I think Marvel TV shows beat DC TV shows in realism and maturity. I know the MCU movies are "for kids'", but their TV shows are really dark and mature. They're also more realistic and have a better storyline. I have watched both DC TV and Marvel TV and trust me, I think the MCU shows are way better. Not biased here.

One of the things I liked about Luke Cage was that it felt like an authentic take on what a black superhero origin would be like. They do. Tony Stark has an abusive childhood and did substance abuse. Peter Parker was relatable because he was torn between the responsibility as a superhero and the responsibility as a student and how he'd juggle his dual life to the people he loves. X-Men deals with racial prejudice. Jessica Jones was a rape survivor. Dardevil was a devout Catholic and struggled with the show's implication that in a very bad day, he'd probably kill people like Punisher did, since the criminals can get away from due process of the law.
Take away their superhero powers, they'd all be interesting characters.

DC has way more than 3 teams- Justice League (and all the different versions), Young Justice, Justice Society of America, Watchmen, Teen Titans, the Suicide Squad, Black Hawks Squadron, all the different lantern corps, Legion of Superheroes, Doom Patrol, the Outlaws, the Marvel Family (Shazam family), Ultimen, the Bat Family. They probably have as many as Marvel. They're just don't have as strong an on-screen presence.

With #1, I would argue that it's not that DC doesn't know how to do movies. It's that they don't have the patience to build a mega-franchise.
IMO, the best superhero movies were D.C.'s solo outings (The Dark Knight Rises, Tim Burton's Batman, V for Vendetta, etc.). Marvel, in contrast, has a lot more high-profile stinkers to its name (FANT4STIC, Spider-Man 3, The Amazing Spider-Man 2, Daredevil, all three Punisher movies, etc.). But Marvel was patient, giving each character in its Avengers ensemble a proper solo introduction before moving on to the big time.
D.C., in contrast, had a misfire with the Green Lantern movie building up to their Justice League movie, and since then have been trying to rush it. They didn't properly introduce Wonder Woman with her own movie -- they just crammed her into the Batman vs. Superman movie and hoped for the best.
I agree. DC has the potential to make great, awesome movies, and we all know so. They are too busy playing catch up to Marvel that the movies become crap. BvS crammed about 4 good movies worth of plot into one movies worth of disappointment. V for Vendetta was fantastic and all the Batman movies have been so good! They are just too focused on making their own Avengers too quickly. I mean, they introduced SO many characters and so many important story arcs that the plot, if there even was one, was too hard to figure out.

I disagree. I think it's that Marvel has found a formula and tone that resonates with the audience well. Look at how similar their origins story are.
DC has not. Man of Steel sufficed in the plot department, but has a tone that completely divided audiences. BvS did too much in 3 hours, but has a consistent tone and mostly good characters. SS did not do enough in the plot department, has a wierd mismatched tone, while serving some good character moments and one of the best ensemble cast in a comic book movie good on screen interactions.
Meanwhile, Marvel does what it does best; Lighthearted tone, likable protagonists, humourous, blockbuster action sequences, good guy wins. They don't really stray away from their formula with the exception of TWS, IH, and IM1. Marvel gets audience invested in their universe with their easter eggs and interweaved Phase 1, so it's easier for people to resonate that happened in their universe, even if it's not that good. Spider-Man was shoehorned into Civil War and no one complained. Wonder Woman actually gets a setup throughout the movie, and people still complained. Why? Because people are freaked out about the notion that they are seeing two new heroes that they don't know they would like, in a franchise that they still don't know if they would like or not. Could you imagine what would happened if Doctor Strange was released in Phase 1? It'd be hailed a rehash of Iron Man. Why? People don't have faith in the MCU yet.
The DCEU takes 5 movies to get to the Justice League. The MCU takes 6. They are not rushing; their slate makes sense. Each of their movies affect one another, and are relevant pieces that explore the corners of their universe. Superman appearing in MoS leads to people questioning him, including Batman and Lex Luthor, which leads to BvS. Superman's Death in BvS leads to people dealing with the existence of the metahumans, which leads to SS and JL. WW will probably set up a Motherbox in Themyscira for JL as well.
Also, Marvel doesn't have to work with a shitty studio trying to play catch up, while knowing nothing about their properties.

Didn't particularly have any patience for the rest of the Marvel team movies after that, so I'm unfamiliar with the rest, but I would wager they were also introduced as supporting characters in other hero solo outings leading up to Civil War.
Man of Steel's tone was divisive for the same reason Batman's tone is divisive: Because some people still pine for the days of Adam West cheese. Batman vs. Superman and Suicide Squad's failings, I would meanwhile chalk up to my original point: That DC wants their own Avengers (or possibly in SS's case, their own Guardians of the Galaxy) and don't have the patience to properly build up to such.
Wonder Woman grossed over 800 million and Aqua Man over a billion.

Most of the best DC stories are out of the main narrative and are practically non-cannon. Marvel's best stories are crossovers and firmly within their continuity. It has always had the advantage of being a singularly conceived comic universe from the mind of Stan Lee in the 60s. DC universe was put together over a longer duration clumsily and is older and outdated to an extent. Hence Marvel universe feels more real and immersive. Marvel is a better run company overall and fans have long hailed it with the moniker "House of Ideas".
IMHO, only casual comic fans will say that DC is better than Marvel (most likely due to Frank Miller's Batman and Alan Moore work from the 80s). I've been reading most titles of the two companies since 2001 and I can honestly says that Marvel has the edge in comic books. I'll give the edge to DC in animation and video games (which were conceived with limited DC intervention).
Who even reads comic books these days? It's all about the movies and shows. Which DC is severely, hilariously, and embarrassingly failing at.
rebirth "Big time event" vs Civil War 2? lol they killed Superman before rebirth so yeah sales are going to be boosted up. Moon Knight? Daredevil? Spiderman and deadpool? Dr. Strange? Vision? and before rebirth it was a downhill fight only title really keeping them alive is Batman.
This is the one thing I strongly appreciate from watchmojo. Lately I've been mostly a Marvel fan than a DC fan but I always loved DC. This video helped remind me why I love DC so damn much. Yes, both companies have their pros and cons but at the end of the day, they're both equally great and have brought so much positivity to our childhood and now adulthood.

It's not to say that Marvel doesn't have fictional locations. It's to say that DC uses them more than Marvel. Marvel uses real locations more often, DC uses fictional locations more often... but both companies also use fictional and real places in their stories too. It's just a matter on what is more common.
