  • My name is Erik and I’m a digital nomad, living in my car and traveling the country in my Subaru Forester. Today I am escaping normal life in Virginia. I spent about a week traveling from The North Carolina & Tennessee border up to Virginia to see Bristol, a dinosaur park, Hanging Rock Observatory, the secret fallout bunker underneath the Greenbrier Resort, warm springs pools, sleeping in a forest, and I finally get my 12v car charger cable for my Anker Portable Power Station. All that and I haven't even made it half way through the state yet. Join me as I escape normal life in Virginia!

    Hello, I saw you today at my local library, never heard of your channel, so I looked it up. Sorry if this sounds weird, usually nomad channels show up in my feed. This is the first time a channel showed up in person. Your car gave it away. 🤣😆 Nice channel, thanks for the history tidbits and quirky places. I'll have to check it all out...especially the bunker!

    Everything is smooth with that kind of weather. What is it going to be when it starts raining, temp goes down, Fall and then Winter come? I've got a tent like yours, which can be installed on both sides of the car, whichever suits you best, and at the back too. It has rhe same fabric all over, hold rain perfectly, has two windows with bug nets and the door can be used as an extension with 2 poles. I suggest you buy something like this. It's a nice shelter. Plus, you can use your propane inside there for heating.
    P.S. Why didn't you buy the 2 plugs and 2 m of cable and make it yourself? The only thing ito consider the CORRECT POLARITY.

      I'm actually WAY more prepared for the cold. I have an 850 down filled jacket, 10º sleeping bag with fleece liner and a portable heater. Rain is really the only thing that can be a bummer when you live out of your car. But I keep a close eye on the weather and avoid it as much as I can. At least major storms.
      good call on the tent.
      I filmed more about the cable scenario- but it added WAY to much time to the video then I thought people would sit through. But the basic run down is- I actually bought another cable from anther company and it didnt work. so making my own cable didnt seem fitting either. I wanted to go with the OEM cable. Only thing that seemed to work.

    I see you're on my old stomping grounds. I haven't been up Peter's Mt. in decades and I'm glad the raptor center is still there. The Greenbrier must be around $400 a night by now but it comes with amenities that some might find worth it. Even just for the setting and grounds.

      oh that Jurassic park thing was so cool! it was just in someone’s backyard essentially.
      i was curious about prices at the Greenbrier but knew i couldn’t pay for it anyways so i didn’t even ask. haha

    I've been doing some traveling myself, and boondocking. Power is the biggest problem. My fridge will keep cool during the day, while I'm driving. At camp, I switch over to the power station. Overnight it will drain the power station battery. I like that cable you got, I'm going to check and see if they have one for my model power station. Any plans to come through NY State after leaving New England?

    • @EscapingNormalLife
      @EscapingNormalLife  4 дні тому

      hey!
      yes- there’s other companies that make them too. i didn’t go into it in the video cause it was just too long and winded- but I actually bought another cable from another company and tried using it on my power station. But it only worked temporarily not sure why. They’re all rated the same. So you may want to stick with the manufacturers cable.
      Yes! I plan on visiting New York after New England. Looking at the Catskill mountains. Any recommendations?

    How hard is it to deal with the heat? Are you able to stay comfortable temperature wise?

      yeah
      good question- i have a small fan which helps A LOT! Luckily, the nights have been relatively cooler. low 70’s mostly. i usually just sleep with a sheet over me.
      i was actually thinking of addressing that in a future video- so maybe i’ll talk about in the next one.
