    Thomas, great work. I love these global perspective financial videos along with your collector conversations. It shows me Chrono24 is more than just a selling/buying platform.

    Very interesting. Chrono24 is really about watch collectors, so it is not surprising that the top brands here are different from Morgan Stanley's list of top Swiss watch companies. That said, the house of Rolex is surely somewhat pleased taking spots 1 and 3. Is it correct to say there is not another Swatch brand in Chrono24's top 10?

    Is this based on unit volume or dollar revenue?

      Good question. The collection values are based on current market rates for various watches.

      @@Chrono24Official interesting, I’m sure you’re aware of the possible skew this presents as some brands PP & AP in particular can fetch. Anyway, it’s not a negative, I really enjoyed the video.

    I'm afraid Swiss bank accounts are disappearing faster than the ice in the poles, fortunately chocolate is still a healthy business.

    Very interesting, but these data are skewed as they reflect collection entry on C24 - so not necessarily representative of the wider market. Collections (partial or whole) are logged by people who are more (than the normal population) interested in their collection's value and the watches within it that are subject to likely market gain. An example is the Daytona - it has disproportionate frequency in these data because such a high proportion are bought as investments. I guess the collections data has serious geographic and demographic bias too.

    • @Chrono24Official
      @Chrono24Official  Рік тому +2

      True to an extent. Chrono24 collectors do skew more high-end than those who own a single everyday watch. So it's focused more on luxury watches than entry-level watches. Daytonas don't sell as often as other Rolex models like the Datejust or GMT, so that might not be the best example, but you could certainly say that hype watches like the Royal Oak are overrepresented when discussing AP.
      Geographically, we pulled data from 1.3 million people in approx. 30 different countries, and I'd say those are the top 30 countries you'd expect to see on any luxury watch collecting list.
      Same with demographics, the typical Chrono24 collector is the same as the typical person you'd see at a watch meetup. So it's of course not representative of the general global population, but it is a comprehensive look at the luxury watch community today.

    Watches absolutely are a risk and it's not low. Watches are a luxury item if society is struggling, and only the elite are comfortable. It's certain that demand will go down in the watch market. You can spin all you want economics is economics. Rolex produces how many watches annually in comparison to Cartier and Omega????? It's a joke that Rolex is widely believed as an upper echelon watch manufacturer when they are more mid tier, their movements are not even hand finished nor are their movements hand assembled. The craftsmanship is simply not there with Rolex

    I wonder why you prefer the median instead of the mean.

    • @Chrono24Official
      @Chrono24Official  Рік тому +4

      Our data analysts prefer the median because the mean could be skewed by a small percentage of mega collection outliers. It's similar to using median household income versus average household income.

      @@papricep6248 It’s a potentially good service, but the asking prices are generally crazy. It puts me off, and so I don’t bid because I don’t know if the seller is genuine or not. I suspect I’m not in the minority. If sellers recognized that most watches must take a discount in order to sell and priced them accordingly, I think there would be many more sales. Every time I’ve sold a watch (never on Chrono24), I’ve taken a hit.
