There’s a mistake in those translation, it’s “I’ve died a thousand times, NEVER died in vain” which makes more sense and is waaay more powerful

  • @pirimpallopirimpalli4932
    @pirimpallopirimpalli4932 3 роки тому +82

Yeah, like others have pointed out, it's "never died in vain" (not "I've died in vain"). And when he says "ransom" it's more like "redemption", and when he says "to have no say over", it's more like "to have no voice" (literally, as he's a singer). I think you got the meaning pretty well. Just to add a bit of backstory, consider they did their first big tour when Damiano had just turned 19, and the others were even younger. I'm sure the feelings he's expressing here are shared by the whole band, but in particular for him it was hard back then, because he felt like he needed to be more responsible, as the eldest; also, he was under a lot of pressure because, as he sometimes said, he had no plan B. They all left school to be professional musicians, but while the others more or less got (the equivalent of) their GED, he never meant to go back in the least. So there were plenty of people trying to discourage him (them), and they only made it harder, made the pressure heavier.
There must have been a lot of pent up anger, because they're always nice to everyone, but how many times must panic have threatened them, so young, with the fear to lose everything they were building just by missing a note or doing a random thing that would be misinterpreted by the audience/media at large? (I really don't want to open the case of what happened at Eurovision, because it pisses me off to no end and I wish it were just erased, but that's the perfect example of how, when everybody's looking at you and a lot of them are just wishing you to fail, just looking down for a moment can get you in trouble).

In my opinion, IN NOME DEL PADRE is the most underrated song from their last album. Thank you for reacting to it with the translation!!! The lyrics are extremely important in order to fully understand the vibes of the song.

"stammi a un palmo dal culo" is a derogatory phrase in Roman dialect that is used towards people you want to keep at a distance, such as "stay away from me"
    sorry for my English

  • @docdivago6846

Great analysis of the lyrics as usual. Unfortunately, the English translation contains some misleading mistakes. I can remember the verse when he says that he died 100 times. The Italian text states that he died 100 times, but NEVER in vain. It is not the only one. Regarding "stay a palm away from my ass", that's slang from Rome. It means: "Hey, don't mess with me. We are not friends. I did not give you permission to come so close to me."

I loved the lyrics analysis, these are some of my favourite lyrics of Damiano's. You can feel how personal they are and the anger and determination and anxiety in them. You can feel how resilient these guys are and how hungry they are to make this music and it shows that they already understand the many implications of reaching that goal. Aside from the lyrics, the song just rips! I love the heavier side of Måneskin. For another song, dedicated to their critics with some hard hitting lyrics, try Paura del Buio and Lividi sui Gomiti with English translation subs on!

Another great and deep reaction. I like it how you analyze the lyrics. And they match so much the music as this is imo the heaviest song of the album. I love its funky vibe - Italian Rock meets Rage Against The Machine. Damiano nearly spits the words out as if it were bullets ... such a raw energy.
Pls also react to „Lividi sui gomiti“ - another intense song - i am sure you will like it as much as i do 😉

I have to tell you bro, your reactions on the Maneskins are the best. Thanks from Italy!

  • @Lol-kc6yb

I saw an interview where the interviewer asked how they felt about their victory and their sudden success and what their going to do now. And what Damiano said was that they’re of course happy but that want to achieve more, and reach the top. As in one of his lyrics where he says that the path is harder when your aming for the sky. I therefore think that when he sings that he is scared that he will ever feel fulfilled. I think he is a very hard worker and that he never truly can feel satisfied with his work, he pushes hisself to an extent cause he knows he’s able to reach it. I think he’s just a perfectionist really. And maybe also a little bit affected of this fame

This song is very spiritual maybe even more than Vent’anni. My interpretation: At the very end he says roughly: You ask me why I do this.... It is because of the Father the Son and the Holy Spirit. In my opinion Damiano is telling us that he is getting the strengths from Above to find the courage to overtake all difficulties and troubles and to forget the haters.

There are some mistakes in the translation. For instance "I want my ransom" doesn't really reflect the meaning of what Damiano's says here, it'd be more something like "I want my revenge" and also "I've died 1000 times but never in vain", not "not in vain", which as Valentina says below (or above?) really does make a lot of more sense... Overall cool reaction as usual man, this song is a mix of energy and talent, I'm enjoying your getting deeper into Maneskin!

I've noticed that you left "in the name of the father, the son and the holy spirit"' untouched, so I wanted to add my interpretation of it. I think he is using it as a manner of swearing what he is saying, like "By the havens I'm going to accomplish this". Maybe it's also a way to say that's his destiny, as christians believe God has a plan for everyone. There is also the possible connotation that's associated with their critics, as many would call their more sensual androgynous style "unholy" or sinful, not to mention all the swearing in the song, so the phrase would be a way of...not mocking, but like use their own tools against them. Just a thought.
Btw: are you latino or have some latino family? Cause the way you pronounce italian is the same as an Spanish speaker would, talking from experience, as I'm from Uruguay.

I'm not Italian nor Catholic, so I don't know how the song sounds to them, but my interpretation on it is that the phrase is used there just to give weight on what he is saying, maybe even create some shock value (although nowadays it won't really schock many, especially in the context of rock, but I'm not aware of their society's norms on this). I don't think it is meant to be purposefully blasphemous, rather just be a strong verse, perhaps from someone who themselves are not very religious (pure guess). Still, as a practising Christian, I'll rather skip this song since I don't appreciate that kind of use. Luckily there are plenty more songs with better lyrics out there :)

My opinion: the last words of the Holy Mass are "In the name of Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. Amen. The Mass in over, go in peace" so it means "I said what I had to say. that's all. you can not reply." AMEN.

Not just the Holy Spirit. He says: "In the name of the Father, of the Son and of the Holy Spirit". The closest meaning can be "I have told the truth, what for me is the sacred truth ". The Catholic religion, especially for the Latin peoples (I mean: Italians, Spaniards, Portuguese, etc) is not something that is (only) above us, but it is something that is around us. Even if we are not practitioners (if we no longer believe in it), religion surrounds us in everyday life and in what we say. Without being blasphemous. It is a different culture.
